Great build! For those of you looking at Goal Zero, be sure to check the competition as it's not even close to the best for your money and battery tests have shown their cells are subpar. Do your own comparisons first folks. EcoFlow has an alternator charger that, IMO, works quite well keeping even the biggest batteries topped off and puts closet to 50 Amps into the batteries.
@halwhitsitt41578 күн бұрын
Agreed - EcoFlow is great stuff. I use a Delta 2 Max (with extra battery) for my home backup and then take it with me camping. Runs fridge for 5 days no problem. Awesome black friday deal on it now!

As a former GX460 owner and a current 5th gen 4 Runner and LX570, the 550’s might be my favorite body style next to the 100 series/LX470.

As a 5th Gen 4Runner owner, I was ready to not like this video. And I was wrong. Well done (except for the spacer "lift".... 🤮) I much preferred the GX460, but those days are gone. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

Nice build. I also have the 550OT+. Did the Westcott design pre load lift on method 17’s, Nitto 34’s. No rubbing issues. Was looking for a new set of rock/ step sliders. The wife needs a little help getting in and out and the factory sliders are too tight to the body for her to step on comfortably.

Sounds like a proper setup! Link is in the description for the CBI sliders I love how they turned out.

Great build! Me personally I would add a bull bar and bar lights other then that great build
@Outworld5 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yeah right now I haven't seen a bull bar as the factory trim separation provides an easy upgrade in the style of what you see here, and there are a couple others doing something similar. I'm sure soon enough CBI and others will look at a more aggressive replacement.
@jhodge9998 күн бұрын
Also you mention the suspension upgrades with respect to their beefier composition and the additional alignment opportunities they offer. What if anything are you doing to preserve or improve stock articulation?
@Outworld7 күн бұрын
With a properly composed suspension setup, articulation will only get better. We'll see what the articulation limits are post-lift but don't see major modification being needed to accomplish what this build will see.
@stickshift9645 күн бұрын
You need additional brake lights. The stuff hanging off the bumper severely impacts visibility.

Thanks for the excellent video and candid insights. (Subscribed!) I'm mulling a build for my own Overtrail+, and have been stalking CBI for months. What kind of improvements have you seen in ground clearances, and approach, departure, and break-over angles?
@Outworld7 күн бұрын
This hasn't seen much beyond intermediate obstacles since finishing. I don't have numbers (hopefully CBI will provide) but if you look at side-by-side comparisons of their armor against the factory trim there's improvement in every category.

What model Warn winch fit under that new CBI bumper? How and where was the SPod controlled installed inside?. Have you considered installing KC rear chase light bar? Or a Prinsu rear ladder?

How did you decide on the General Grabbers as opposed to many other makes/models ?
@Outworld5 күн бұрын
I've used General Tire exclusively for the past decade or so. I've done some work with them full disclosure, but I've always loved the style and performance of the X3s and their A/T X all terrain is one of the best all terrains I've ever used. Plenty of good options out there but GT has always felt at home on these builds.

So I really like the front CBI bumper enhancement. Does CBI do installations? If so, where? If not, I would need an experienced shop.

Hi, looks great! Was there any rubbing at all (lock to lock/full compression) with the 33s?
@Outworld7 күн бұрын
There wasn't much testing done with the 33s before being sent up to CBI, but I'm fairly confident there would have been no issues after we inspected post-mounting.

Amazing build! Love this vid. How long did it take to make this upgrade? How much did it cost? Is this something an average buyer can do through you?
@Outworld9 күн бұрын
Thank you! Total process was about 6 months as many of the parts were in development as we were building. As for upgrade cost, most parts are listed in the description with links to price/order. Expect $15-20k in parts as it sits now. Labor is an additional fee. I have done builds for third parties, including this GX550 but it's not something I market. If you're interested I'm up for a discussion.

Parts and labor for this build so far? $145,000?
@Outworld4 күн бұрын
Mileage will vary depending on location/labor rates but safe to say $10k is a decent starting range for all of the work to be done at the shop. You can tally up the parts in the description and add it to the cost of a GX for a good estimate there.

@ sick! Thank you. I have a forester I’m turning into a budget base camp style rig and the XL tents are just a tad bit too big for the roofline and look awkward, but I was concerned about future proofing. My golden is similar in size so I’m put to ease. I’m eyeing a similar LC or GX in the coming year or two for a worthy upgrade! It’s just easier to carry a dirtbike on that frame compared to a upgraded suspension forester 😂

I don't see the point in buying a new vehicle without a V8. The simplicity and the grunt is tried and tested. Too bad because the GX looks really good.
@Outworld4 күн бұрын
I think it's time to start opening your mind to the future. I'm a huge V8 fan (4Runner, Mercedes G, etc.) and was equally disappointed on the announcement on both the GX and LC. But after driving both Im slowly becoming a believer. The efficiency you feel in both of those engines make the others just feel kind of tired. The big debate is longevity, but if the new power plants hold up like the 2UZ did then I'm all for it.
