@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies I got the airbrush and started playing with it. I clogged it up because I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Then, during disassembly too close to the sink, I lost the little trigger piece (the fiddly part between the actual trigger and spring) down the drain! Now I can't find a replacement. I bought something that looked right but of course didn't fit. Any ideas on where/how to find parts? I'm wondering if it might be a knockoff of a more established brand that might be a part share candidate. So, I'd say to others considering buying this to take into consideration the availability of replacement parts when deciding to buy your first airbrush.

Hey Bruce. That sucks big time. I can't say that I haven't done a very similar thing when i first started out. It was the actual fluid nozzle that i dropped down the sink. I've had several folks tell me that this airbrush is very similar to the GAAHLERI airbrush. I don't know if they sell parts or not.

@@hotwheeleveryday OH MAN, to lose a small piece down the drain, it's almost like losing a ring there. I have a filter so stuff don't go the drain, but I still will NEVER go near that kitchen sink lol. Well, here's my almost loss... TWO times. I lost the fluid nozzle (yes, that very, very small nozzle) of my model on the floor... two times. Fortunately I found them both times with a very bright flash light while on my hands and knees with my face on the floor, almost cursing myself LOL. I did lose the O ring for the nozzle though (the bigger part) for that same model, the Casubaris, but I got lucky. While you can't get extra parts for the Casubaris, the nice thing is it's almost identical to the Master G233, 99%, even down to the fitting size and O rings. Currently, I'm waiting for the extra parts for the Master so I can snag that O ring for the Casubaris lol. Oh and the Master can run with Casubaris' compressor, I'm gonna get a big Master compressor that comes with 3 more guns, and the Casubaris gun can take advantage of it. We all lose things, TINY things lol, I've lost many things, so I always work on a table over a bowl and never move across the kitchen with any of them unless they're put back together. Lesson learned, and I hope your lesson is as forgiving as mine was, but if not, hey, I've been there and I feel for ya!

I think I'll stick to my Badger Anthem 155 with my .5mm needle. I think Badger makes a nozzle and needle kit to get it to 1.5mm and I'll switch if I ever need a finer needle. So far the Badger does everything I want it to do. I love my Badger and use it strictly for acrylic painting. I've got an old Chinese Harbor Freight siphon feed airbrush that I use for lacquer and enamel painting. Harbor Freight has a new gravity feed Chinese airbrush for $26.00 I want to try. It looks exactly like the Ovaga and I've seen a review on the HF one. I still use my old Harbor Freight compressor that came with the Chinese airbrush. I also have an 8 gallon air compressor that I have set up to use with my Badger. So far I haven't really noticed the surge from the little 1/5 HP compressor. When I do I'll switch to the 8 gallon tank. I also am a model railroader in HO and O scales. Cheers from eastern TN

Great video. Looks great. Just a quick question. Being new to this airbrush painting i was talking to my local hobby store owner getting paint recommendations and he informed me about the extreme danger of using spray paints, both rattle and airbrush in my basement due to having a gas furnace. Is this real? Never once heard this fact mentioned in any painting video Your thoughts?
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies Күн бұрын
That is a great question. Let me make a big disclaimer here. I am in no way an expert on safety when it come to that question. I definitely would not rattle can paint anything in my basement. I don't know what kind of propellants they use. I can only speak for what I use. I use all water based acrylic craft paints or water based acrylic airbrush paints through my airbrush. I don't use anything that I am aware of that would cause an issue. Again I am not qualified to give you professional advice in this subject. I do airbrush in my basement, but I have a window with an exhaust fan running when I am painting. I would definitely "NOT" paint with any form of enamels or anything of that nature. Again, just to cover my behind. I am not a professional on the makeup and / or volatility of paints. Paint at your own risk. Now that I have completely scared you, thank you for watching and the great question.

@RoadsAndRailsHobbies
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies 2 ай бұрын
Well that sucks!!! Ok, so the first thing that I would do is to remove the handle, losses up the chucking nut for the needle, pull the needle back a little bit to make sure it moves freely then press the needle all the way foreword until it is seated properly amd then make sure the chucking nut is tightened down. Then move the trigger back and forth to make sure the needle is moving. If it is. I would just put some water in the paint cup and see of it will come out. If the water sprays out without any issues, try your paint again. If the paint still won't sray then most likely the paint has not been thinned down enough or depending on what paint you are using you may be getting clogged up by something in the paint. I don't know your experience level with an airbrush so forgive me if you have already tried this. Let me know of it works or not.

It's important to know exactly which airbrush this is because eventually you will need to buy replacement parts. What you have looks like a Gaahleri GHAC-98, not the cheaper GHAD-39. The GHAC sells for $69, although the price may be going down now that Gaahleri is pushing their Mobius line. Parts are cheap. Is the actual maker Fengda? I dunno. Chinese capitalism is unfathomable, with the same products bearing multiple brand names. They do sell the paint separately -- 24 colors for 30 bucks. I'm really curious about these newfangled mini-compressors: I've never used one. Where's the air intake? Does it get hot? If your compressor vibrates, place it on a cushion or a folded-up blanket. I once had a bulky loud compressor that was about 10 db quieter when I suspended it in mid-air with ropes.

Hello Paul. I just wanted to let you know that I have really been enjoying your videos. I’m also a model railroader. I purchased one of the inexpensive “all-in-one” airbrushes from Amazon back in December. I’ve never airbrushed before and thought it was just ok. I then saw this video that you did and thought this one looked a lot nicer. I was able to return it and purchased this one. Today was the first time I’ve used it and it worked great! So much better than the other! I practiced with water like you suggested in one of your other videos. When I switched to paint it did a wonderful job. Thanks for all your tips and I look forward continuing to learn.

At 5:57 you mention that Ovaga "put the proper 'O' ring on the paint cup". Can you please show a photo of the 'O' ring that you mentioned. My understanding is that the cap is a press fit on the cup to prevent it from falling off. I have never seen an 'O' ring on the paint cup or the cap. Maybe I've been looking at the wrong airbrushes. At 6:34 you mention the 'pre-set knob'. At 7:05 you say it's a "really nice feature on this airbrush'. Most dual-action airbrushes in the market these days have this 'nice feature'. So the Ovaga is just following the trend. Nothing new.
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies 6 ай бұрын
There are little rubber seals or O rings on the cap of of the paint cup on many airbrushes that help give that nice tight fit. And just remember this is all my opinion as far as "nice" features go. My favorite airbrush is an iwata eclipse hp-cs. It's a relatively expensive airbrush and it does not have a preset handle on it. I also have an iwata eclipse Kustom that does have the preset handle, but that airbrush is really expensive. So for me to see a quality entry level airbrush offering that, well I think it is a nice feature.

The $20 discount is still valid as of March 2024. Love your videos! I did notice that you don’t use a spray booth. Is that by choice? Have you been spraying without one throughout the years? I am planning on using acrylics for my models and definitely like your approach to painting where less is more somewhere else more important. Thanks for all you do for us!
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies 6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching my videos. And I appreciate the comments. As far as a spray booth goes. I don't have one for a couple of reasons. One is the price. I would definitely like to have a decent sized one and as I'm sure you are aware, they are not cheap. Two to five hundred for a good sized one. Now I could save up for it but my workshop is currently in my basement where I have glass block window's and only one window that us above my work bench has an ity bity window that will open. And there is no way to feasible have a spray booth on my workbench. So I spend my money on other items. Now that may change. I am currently turning a spare bedroom into a workshop, so in the future I will definitely have a spray booth. Just so you know. I do wear a respirator when I am painting. The only time I don't is when I am recording a video and I need to talk. So definitely make sure you at least wear a respirator. Also when I am painting for myself and not for videos I do have that little window open and I have small box fan suspended from the floor joists and it is running to keep air moving. Just be careful. You may think, oh I only paint a little bit here and there, but that little bit can add up over time. Thanks again for watching and reaching out to me. Take care.

That looks like a really nice kit. The airbrush looks like a rebranded Gaahleri GHAD-39. I have one and it looks identical, down to the 8 channel nozzle which I believe only Gaahleri sells. So the airbrush alone (with different paint cups and needle sizes) sells for $45 on Amazon, and is a fantastic airbrush for that price, so it's surprising to see it with the compressor because as you've seen those packages usually have a cheap throw-in airbrush, but not this one.
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies 8 ай бұрын
Hey John. You may be right about the brand of airbrush. Ovaga didn't tell me if it's a rebranded airbrush or if they are manufacturing it themselves, doubtful. Regardless, it works great. I just painted a hot wheel with it using Createx paints. I used their autoborne sealer, cosmic sparkle, 4030 balancing clear, candy h20, and their uvls 4053 gloss clear. Granted I had to thin the sealer and the clear coats just a bit more than usual, but the fact that I was able to shoot the cosmic sparkle through that .4mm tip set, well color me surprised. I even used their little compressor. I got the same exact results I get when using iwata and a full sized air compressor. Anyhow thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it very much. Hey, Paul -- Loved your Airbrushing 101 so much I ordered one of these on your recommendation. I looked through the comments here to see if there was anything said about the following question in the Owner's Pamphlet, but couldn't find anything, so... The Owner's Pamphlet says "As the battery is charging, the LED indicator display screen will display a green light battery charging symbol. The screen will also display 100% whe the battery is fully charged." However, when I plug my compressor in to charge, there's no green light -- just a blue light in the center of the 3 lights, and although the instructions say the battery will charge in 35 minutes, I've had mine plugged in for a few hours, and have yet to see any indication that it is fully charged. Is this a case where the documentation has not kept up with the actual design/manufacturing of the product? And yes, I know... you didn't sign up to provide tech support for Ovaga, but after searching online, I haven't been able to find anything like customer support, and figured I'd try asking someone else who owns one of these.

@@RoadsAndRailsHobbiesThanks for the speedy reply! Well, the instructions do say the 35 minute charging time is if you have a fast charging adapter... I'm guessing the adapter that came with my Samsung phone doesn't qualify. I do have the light blue light(s), so I guess I'll wait a bit longer and see if the green light appears. I can use that time to locate a fast charging adapter :-)

But all airbrushes when cleaning eventually will have the chrome wear away. So, to keep down the cost, or whatever, some use steel instead. Or, as yours has a plastic cup.

Hey Dwight. The one I received has a metal cup. It came with two much larger plastic paint cups but the main on is definitely metal.

It's all good. I go by the ratings myself. When this was sent to me they had just listed it on Amazon and there were no ratings at that time. I have been in contact with the company and they are aware that there have been a few problems with some of their units, but they were remedying those issues. I know my airbrush kit they sent me came from my local Amazon warehouse. I received it in two days after they agreed to send me one and it was dropped off by an Amazon driver. So I'm sure mine wasn't hand picked to be a perfect one. I am certainly hoping that the issues they have had are flukes. But the fact they informed me about them means a lot. I won't back someone that is selling junk. Time will tell if I continue to work with them. They did mention that they have more products coming that they would like to partner with me over. A couple of the products were suggestions I made to them. But I will always say. Buy the best you can afford. If you can afford an Iwata HP CS or something along that line and a nice quiet air compressor then do it. I know that I would.. Thanks for chatting with me. It has been a pleasure

Bryan. Sorry to hear. These airbrushes are made by the same company that make the Gaahleri branded airbrushes. Here is a link to what may fit. They also have upgrade packages. Which is a whole nozzle and needle set up if you want to change the size. Again. This is a might fit. Your best bet would be to contact Ovaga and ask them if they have parts for sale. I agree about the trigger part being a real bear. I believe Ovaga is changing that. As far as the .4 being too small, may I ask what type of paint you are using that you are having issues with. I've ran everything from super thin airbrush paint to thick craft paints through it. Mind you I am thinning the paints accordingly to work with the .4 needle.

@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies hi, im using their paint as well as other ready to spray acrylic. From day 1 it seems to hardly move the paint. Trigger wide open. Air pump on / full power doesn't matter. Can spray ok for a few minutes then it peters out and clogs. Paint is new and not viscous. The pump will often pulse on/off. Ive cleaned the heck out of it. Ovaga said they were working on a new version for the trigger and did indeed admit customers were having difficulty. I ordered a new pen kit that includes .3/.5/.8 needle . This one is not working out unfortunately.

I've only put together two small ones from Bandai. I didn't paint or weather them though. I bought them with the idea of working them in an N scale model railroad diorama. Either as displays for like a movie theater premiere, or just a stand alone battle scene with destroyed buildings. I'll probably do that latter someday. @@RoadsAndRailsHobbies So I got the Ovago and did some test runs. Simple enuff to use. Just need to practice on many spoons haha. I have a question about cleaning it. Do you always have to clean it so that it's in its pristine condition? Asking since some spots with color are a little bit hard to reach. I tried dipping it in rubbing alcohol and brushing it. It does a better job, but there always seem to be a little speck remaining. Very thin though. Is that ok? FYI, I'm using Vallejo Air acrylics and just cleaning with 90% rubbing alcohol. TIA!

You really need to get as clean as possible. That little bit of leftover paint could build up over time and eventually cause you issues. I would suggest getting a purpose made airbrush cleaner. I use createx airbrush cleaner. You can pick it up from Amazon, or if you have a hobby lobby near you. Thats where I buy mine. You could also pick up cheap ultra sonic cleaner off Amazon. That's what my brother uses to clean his airbrush with, and bonus he cleans his wife's jewelry with it as well.

It is rechargeable just like the one you have. It also will still work if plugged in and charging. As far as upgrades go, I like this compressor better. Other than being able to change the psi, and granted it's not perfect control like you would have on a shop style air compressor, but it's better than the "handle" style. At least for me. But the airbrush alone makes this kit worth the upgrade from the one that I showed. I'm like you though. Don't make a rash decision. I like to look at all the angles before I spend any money. 20 to 30 minutes if you are running it continuously at a low to medium setting. Several days if you are just off and on like painting a small diecast car or using it for weathering. It will run while plugged in and charging. I had a big painting job and had to run it plugged in. I was painting almost continuously for a little over an hour and I did have to stop because it was starting to over heat. But I ran it hard that day. And it is still working just fine.

@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies thankfully it turns out it was just user error. When I took the tip apart, it had full air flow again, so I figure there was a tiny bit of paint trapped causing the air to taper. Even after soaking the tip in cleaner it still kept doing it, but after priming a few models it began giving a steady air flow again. Don't take my comment as criticism though. I'm brand new to this and just trying to struggle through the learning process. I love this airbrush and the little air compressor, and I found your video to be incredibly informative and helpful. I look forward to using it quite a bit. Cheers!

Mine was doing this but it wasn't the compressor's fault (I could tell that because if I removed the nozzle, the flow from the unit was continuous like it should be). Turns out, the bit in this video about the fluid nozzle being three distinct parts is key. Clean them all. Mine had dried paint caked so badly It took a soak just to get the tip unscrewed.

They were obnoxiously loud and over heated relatively quickly. I have had a one gallon compressor that was ok, but again super loud. It wasn't as loud as the first two, but since it had a tank it would turn on unexpectedly when I was airbrushing and it always made me jump. I messed up quite a few paint jobs because of it.
