So many interesting crosses! I don't know how you keep up with the pedigrees. Ever since I grew some black pearls years ago, I see their influence in all the pepper plants I grow from saved seeds. I don't have anything "pure" anymore, but they all are good to me for hot pepper powder and roasted peppers in oil.

Thanks! As long as you like the ones you are growing, that's all that matters. The bees have made a few crosses for me also.

Such an amazing variety of peppers. They all look so healthy and productive. Congratulations on all your hard work. I also don't know how you can keep track of all of the crosses. It looks like we might get a lot of rain soon from that storm. Take care and have a great weekend.🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Your plants are so beautiful to look at and by what you’re saying, taste good too. I’m up north in tropical Australia, I grow a few different types of chilli’s as they grow well here, I think many of our chilli peppers have come from Thailand. It’s amazing how you’ve created so many different ones yourself, I only grow from seeds I’ve collected mainly from our multicultural markets

Some my ornamental peppers don't taste that good, but I've been crossing sweet peppers with them to create ornamental peppers that taste good. Sounds like you are in a great location for growing them.

Good morning Jim - Your peppers look so awesome and just love your naming nomanclature. I have some lemon drop peppers that are just turning yellow and a few sweet banana but it has not been a good year overall on peppers. You are so fortunate to have the bounty you do but you have much more experience than I in growing them and we live in different climates. Thanks so much for the updates and have a great weekend...

Good afternoon Sue! Glad you enjoy the names. I gave a little thought to some of them. Sorry to hear that you didn't have a great pepper year. Climate does make a difference. We get plenty of heat, and they seem to like heat up to a point. Have a great weekend!

Lots of unique growing. The Kansas Chaos has peppers that look like larger versions of the Jigsaw. The Jigsaw is one we were surprised on the flavor being good for an ornamental and even though listed as an annuum I feel like there are some baccatum genetics in there somewhere. Thanks for the share!
@MidwestGardener5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think they look a little bit like the Jigsaw. The Jigsaws get a lot bigger though. These are small in comparison to the Jigsaw I grew a few years ago.

What a incredible assortment of peppers. I'm seeing an influence from a purple variety in a large portion of your peppers. Could you share the name of that original variety? I'm surprised by your Midwest Purple variety that starts purple and ripens to red. You are expanding my exposure to the purple varieties...very nice. Thank you so much for the share and presentation/explanation of your trials and knowledge. Happy Gardening Jim.
@MidwestGardener5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Most of my darker foliage varieties either originated from Black Pearl crosses, or Purple Flash crosses. Some of the purple ones originated from a sweet pepper called Oda. Happy gardening to you too!

Jim can you make them hybrids like ones bought that can become what they consistently cross despite having different f1s? Like the Juanita do you remember how to cross it consistently to yield a Juanita seed so I can buy it from you for example?
@MidwestGardener5 ай бұрын
Yes, if you cross the same peppers, the F1s should come out the same each time....as long as the two peppers crossed are stable.

F3, F5 ... I am assuming this is a "generational" label? Perhaps you explained the naming in an earlier video. They are so pretty and interesting.
@MidwestGardener5 ай бұрын
You are right. An F1 is the first generation after the cross was done. Once they get up around F7 or F8, they are pretty stable. Glad you found them interesting!

The midwest pompom stands out to me. I like how compact it is. Im a big fan of the tiny ornamentals. I also like the midwest pandemonium. I'm about to harvest and immediately plant my F1 midwest midnight x santos orange crosses. Hoping to keep the black foliage from the midwest midnight and the compact size of the santos orange, but I don't have any specific goals with the peppers themselves. I'm also waiting on my numex thanksgiving day x uchu cream peppers to ripen so I can harvest and plant those F1s. I'm looking for peppers that ripen to orange with white variegated leaves. I was considering crossing the habanada and trinidad perfume plants that I had, but it might be getting too late into the season for that. I don't know if I like either of them yet anyway.

I did one tomato cross last year. I'm really happy with how the F1 plants grew in our garden this year. Next year will be very interesting. F2 is when there is the most variety.
