I do know that FB lost a lot of younger audience. Seems like they're trying to gain that audience back and not necessarily saying "we don't want you old people over 40+ here" LOL. IDK. Just my thoughts. FB (and now IG which we all know FB owns IG) caused their own growth to stunt. They stopped pushing pages in feeds, keep changing algorithms, promoting stuff we did not ask to see, cannot see friends/family members etc.. and the list goes on. Ok FB, so people left! SMH. I'm confused, and I am done. I LOVE YT. Here for it! EDIT: ...and THANK YOU for sharing. I am going to read the article now Janelle

I think maybe why FB is focusing on younger people is because they've lost so many of them. My millennial daughters are almost NEVER on FB. I think they post vacation photos once in awhile and that's it. A lot of boomers like me are still on FB. In fact, I joined a few over 60 FB groups to help promote my YT channel because it's about older people learning and doing new things. FB is a good place for me but YT is more fun and has been keeping me real busy. Just started the channel a month ago and have a ton to learn. FB is full of ads at this point. Anyway, I love your stuff and have subscribed. You're very down to earth.

My Facebook use has really dropped off considerably over the last few months. Ironically, for the last several years, Facebook has been seen as the social media platform for "old people" and that the younger demographic has been in steep decline. Apparently, they're making a concerted effort to turn that tide. All good. This old dude prefers KZbin anyway...

100%! Facebook (and Instagram for that matter) have become completely useless to me for self-promotional purposes (or even some sense of community with family & friends). I post on FB and it’s absolute CRICKETS. Luckily I’m doing well with KZbin these days so just gonna continue focusing here!
@anniesshenanigans38152 ай бұрын
most people are dumping FB anyway. I have a group on FB, but never started it for money. I go there to connect with others, but not in reels or ads. So I spend way more time on YT. I don't do TikTok or other media AT ALL. My videos are for legacy. I don't edit or all that bs. Not really interested in learning the algorithm and starting a new career. Ideas are fleeting and I just don't have enough to talk about to put it out there. When things happen irl that are funny or interesting, I cannot 'recreate' for the camera. So I just do a think dump, ideas pop up and experiences IRL.

Hey, so , for reference I'm 52 (really enjoy your channel - thanks! Started watching when KZbin suggested it to me because I opened a new account under a "business" setting to be a vlog/small business/personal brand exploration... anyway... ) on the Facebook kinda rejecting we older people... my take... I have 5 kids, 24 down to 7. They and their friends have told me that the younger crowd isn't really into FB anymore - that it's for older people doing family things and stuff - and the younger crowd has moved on to Instagram and other more happening places! My take is that FB is not so much trying to "boot" the older crowd; but they're trying to RE-ENGAGE the younger crowd - hence their focus on them. Just my sense of things!

I have virtually abandoned my IG (near 19k followers) and only check FB once per week. What I've found is, particularly IG, the "relationships" are much more transactional, surface level. Now, don't get me wrong, relationships are somewhat transactional here on YT BUT I've found the followers are much more committed to you, are deeper and more meaningful. The subs on YT are much more interested in your journey. It feels like more of a true relationship (as much as you can create virtually). And shout out to you. I'm a 52 year old, plant based/fitness/mindset/coaching creator. You're one of the PRIMARY reasons I recently shifted my content creation to almost exclusively to YT. In years past I would repurpose my IG content for other platforms. No longer. Now I repurpose my YT to other platforms. Thank you sir! Super happy to see your growth! 🖤💪🏼

My Facebook experience has been very good, without a doubt by joining Facebook groups that I have interest in gave me another platform to grow my KZbin channel, changing my personal name to my YT channel name gave me great notoriety which lead to a platform I could share my YT videos on. Always true to being honest and genuinely interested in the groups I belong to has been a real asset. My number 1 will always be KZbin...the greatest platform on the planet but I still enjoy my Facebook experience everyday. I understand like u r pointing out about Facebook wanting to grow the younger crowd while at the same time realizing we as the old school pros are a dieing most valuable breed :), after all...we can still produce awesome material without the add of any AI, like being able to fish without the livescoop technoligy... a rare deed for sure. Good Morning Mr. Kolbe - I VERY much appreciate your encouragement and sage advice. I am at an age similar to yours, and have worked as an engineer for most of my career. I plan on working many more years, and am quite good at my job. Several years ago I was surprised to learn that the bulk of my value came from providing technical guidance and know-how to other engineers. There are many fine engineer KZbinrs, but I am thinking about making my own contribution in the form of teaching electrical circuit design and analysis. Thanks for your teaching; I can see that over-analysis and over production (from one of your clips) is the enemy of getting going. Today I am ordering a new very low end Canon camera that is arguably not good enough, just to get going. First episode will be about resistors, and I can easily densely pack 15 minutes of quality content for aspiring beginners. Have a great afternoon!

One thing to remember about why Facebook and most marketing companies go after the younger market is because that market is more pliable, less experienced and easier to manipulate. Older people, I’m 65, are harder to manipulate simply because they’ve been around longer and aren’t as susceptible to being marketed to. Younger people aren’t as entrenched, and are still finding their way. They are out there screaming “find me something new that I can latch onto!” That’s why marketers spend billions trying to get their attention. Those of us a little longer in the tooth, with closets full of Been There, Done That T-Shirts don’t want to be marketed to. We usually already know the gist of what we’re looking for and know how to go out and get it. If we want to be on Facebook, we’ll be on it. If not, see ya. That’s why Facebook is spending billions trying to figure out how to attract the kids. Sorry for another rant.

Thanks for the episode. It sounds like FB is targeting members who use social media primarily to share and watch videos. The younger audience dominates these video-centric platforms, which are very successful. It seems FB is trying to tap into this active and growing market. It's likely not about excluding older adults but about attracting younger users to engage with FB like they do with other platforms. We were in the grocery line some weeks ago and the 20-something cashier told us he's found his direction and will be going into "life coaching." On our way out of the store, my wife and I rolled our eyes and commented to ourselves about a 20-something was going to be coaching others when they have such limited experience in life.

I had only been watching KZbin for six months and my sister clued me in on how the channel thing worked. I thought you had to pay to be on! I have been watching a lot of these sorts of videos recently and nobody - no one - has mentioned just making a channel for fun. I have no plans for monetisation or anything like that, but it is a total blast to just make a show. I only manage one a month. I have learned a bit of tech on the way, but it is mainly just me messing about and playing dressing-up like I did when I was little. Is there nothing to be said for this? I would welcome your thoughts on the matter. Love, light and peace, Bob McGowan (Not the Chair Circle!)

My problem is that I don't know what to do with my 2 and half years of video contents, Gopro/Pocket3/Drone/e.t.c... . I'm on the road full time so I'm creating video contents above everyday but don't know how to go about editing as in good quality and marketing angles(I've watched so many KZbin marketing editing video). It's a long comment but hope you can give me some advice to what to do with my archives. Thank you! Sayuz,

You could always upload as raw footage. You could outsource an editor but that comes with a different set of "knowledge" especially if you don't edit.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your tips. So basically, upload unedited video archives and find an editor by saying "editor and marketer" wanted, something like this? Thank you,

You could definitely use KZbin as a free archive. You could even make the videos unlisted or private so they can't be found unless you want them to. Regarding outsourcing. Editing and marketing are two different jobs. I'm not sure I'd get one person to do both.

I've learned a lot online from younger people, but I started out on FB and You tube. So, I'm really coming back to KZbin. TikTok is a real mess. I'm dropping out of it.

I learn from young people too. Just depends on what they're teaching.

Honest random question, how do you not get glare from your ring light in your glasses. I'm having such a hard time---HELP PLEASE--ANYONE!!!
@KevinKolbeАй бұрын
I don't use ring lights for that reason. Better to have a light slightly above your head angled down.

They're focusing on young adults because they know they aren't primarily on Facebook... And if they don't manage to keep them on the platform fb eventually dies to competition.... While the 40+ bracket... FB and instagram are dominant already..... That's why for example my families business spends hundreds of thousands on ads to reach people in the older age brackets.... You probably should work on the platforms that have the kind of audience you want....

80% of my YT viewers are over 55 - 90% are over 45. I've only been on the platform for less than a year, but this is where my people are. 72% of my audience watches me on their big TV's. I love KZbin and I am just getting started and I just turned 65. I appreciate young inspirational people like you ;) Keep up the good work!
