54 here. First time I had any chance to do anything with acting was when I was 51. Lots of flack and raised eyebrows. Don’t care, I’m in it and not quitting. Thanks for the videos.

Personally I think it’s done more for me than anything. It’s now been 5 yrs since starting. While 2020 was a bust, 2021 is making up for it, so far I’ve had the opportunity to be in 3 short films, with one booked for later in the year, and an independent full feature comes out in summer. Being on set gives me the resource to be myself, or create a character I would not otherwise be. Sure there are directors guiding that, someone with a script telling me I missed something. All a part of it. When I’m on set I still feel more alive than I do anywhere else.

great points. thank you so much for this positive video. 48, been doing youtube the last 6 years hard (32k subs and growing) learned all the tech stuff and editing and share those tips with others and now I wanna extend my talents past just tattooing the last 28 years for a job. debating a move to Burbank and busting ass to see what can happen!

No point in debating since that conversation only takes place in your mind. Just go for it and find out! I recommend you reduce the number of submissions and focus on the ones you are best for, finding a way to connect with the filmmakers personally and convince them why they should consider you. Don't you think people will pay more attention to someone who feels most strongly about the role? That will multiply the results of your efforts by 10 to 100 x. Happy to discuss over the phone. Send me an email to David at hackhollywood.com

I just turned 40 with two young children . I have an agent in Chicago and I have been getting commercials and auditions. When do I start reaching out to LA casting agents and talent agents? And are postcards the best way to go bec I’m not in LA to show up at the office?
@davidpatrickgreen53194 жыл бұрын
You're not going to get very far living in Chicago with anyone in Los Angeles until you have a long list of professional credits. Become all you can be in the market you're in and at some point unless you get into the guest star level they are probably not going to fly you out anytime soon so you will have to consider moving to Los Angeles if you want to get to that level.

Do you any recommendations for auditions?
@davidpatrickgreen53193 жыл бұрын
You have to get to know people in the business. Give your time to them doing anything you can to help out. Go to conferences and expose where people in the industry gather like equipment Expos or Summit Store anywhere. Get in touch with the producers Guild and the Directors Guild and the casting Directors Association and offer your services because once they get to know like and trust you you can do anything you want
@Darian5714 жыл бұрын
It’s better to start in Chicago because it’s a lot of tv shows here and it’s movies being shot here to your gonna get seen here but it’s more famous and Hollywood I California build your way up

How do I present my day jobs in my acting resume?
@davidpatrickgreen53192 жыл бұрын
Normally you wouldn't but you could make it sound like your jobs are actually acting roles and if they asked, you could tell them how you act like a cashier or you act like a carpenter. Acting like a carpenter and being one are pretty much the same thing so if you can do it in real life you should be able to do it on camera.

48 and I feel I’m targeted by agency. I paid in 1500.00 so far for coaching to get me ready for a competition to showcase my talent in front of mangers, agency’s from around the world. Should I be going that route•? I want film and tv training that I feel I skipped . I’ve been working background but I want to act.
@davidpatrickgreen53192 жыл бұрын
don't do it. They are literally just pimping you out. If you can't or won't rep yourself to agents and managers you're not ready.
