The 2020 Candidates Tournament is an 8-player double round-robin that will decide Magnus Carlsen's challenger for the World Championship match that's set to take place in Dubai this December. The 14-round event is being played in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Yekaterinburg, Russia from 17 March to 3 April 2020. The prize fund is €500,000.
The players have 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for the next 20 moves, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40. A playoff (beginning with four 25-minute games) is unlikely as head-to-head, no. of wins and Sonneborn-Berger are used first to break a tie for 1st place. Official website: en.candidates-2020.com

he is no doubt a class blitz player...but when your opponent has all the time in the world to think and you just have 2 minutes....it's more of a tactical survival and psychological mode too. Only the smartest and combination of calm can make it. You have to take into account in blitz both players have less time and not a literal and psychological time gap like in this game. But again, this is Grischuk. Last game he slept midway and woke up in last 6 minutes..hahah
@MatsMatsuo
@MatsMatsuo 4 жыл бұрын
@@dibyajyotichowdhury7412 just saying that his chess level doesn't drop too much between classical and blitz, just like Magnus, also he had his time and MVL's time to think, also he is always in time trouble, in blitz you don't have you opponnt time to think very much cause he'll be playing fast too, it's amazing but not very surprising coming from Grischuk

It may be the case that Grishuk has really great short term memory and once he analysis the position fully he remembers most or all the main possible lines and can respond out of memory for the next few moves. Also, some players are very good about using their opponents time to analyze further. But for sure, Grishuk needs to work on his time management.

04:21 I wonder if this was all preparation from MVL: giving up the c3 pawn to activate the R on d1. Wow... 09:36 If this variation is correct, then this may be a big miss by MVL. Re4, then Rxc4, then Rxf7+ with lots of passed pawns looks promising.

There is always big time difference between two players only if one of them is SHASHA and he proves yet again How cool is he under this time pressure

having an hour and something on the clock is the real pressure for Sasha, that's why he's wasting so much time.. waiting for that pressure to die down and then his brain activates

i was watching this live . when sasha had about a minute and captured the pawn with the knight the commentator shouted people in the chat are saying blunder blunder and i was like : ok it does sounds like a blunder but come on its sasha and he got a draw at the end. i say he did more than great with this game .

I watched this yesterday. Maxime had much much more time at the critical moments but he seemed hasty making important decisions, which turned out to be anything but optimal. When he pushed e6 he had roughly an hour against 2 minutes of Grischuk, and he made the move like seconds after Grischuk made his. Even the commentator said that he could have invested more time (which he did trying to fix his mistakes), and that kind of mentality is "surprising and disappointing" at this level. What a pity though, I always like MVL.

I think MVL already had the position after Ne7 in blitz in 2018 against Nakamura, and played g4 instead of h4

At 15:15 of the video I was upset with Max for missing the much better move. R D4 check was a winning move.
