This was a very kind, thoughtful & sweet video. It sounds like reasonable advice although I'm not an expert in any of this, being currently employed, but I'm over 50 so the title caught my eye. I hope you're successful & happy with your role at Target. 😊

I quit a stable teaching job at the age of 58. That was 2 years ago. I couldn't live with myself for what was being done to contact time with students. Anyhow, I went into a completely different industry - designing learning and teaching digital packages and loved it. Sadly, I got requested for another team and have not enjoyed that. I'm 60 now, heading to 61 this December and I have an interview for a different job again on Tuesday. Basically, I'm not old enough not to be desperate for work and I can leave if I'm not happy.

It’s always an advantage when your partnered. If you’re not like me it’s very hard to be relegated to low wage “old age” jobs. I can barely survive and can’t save a thing, literally.

Congratulations on finding new employment that, is also close to your home. During the early 1980's, I used to work part-time for a retail store in the South similar to K-Mart. However, I never heard of a payroll title called "fulfillment". So, please tell us what you do each day at Target? (smile ... smile).
@itslisawright3 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking....I fill orders placed online. We have two departments; Ship from Store or Order Pick up. It's a great way to get exercise.

@@itslisawright Thank you, for replying to my question. Back in the 1980's when, I worked for the K-Mart like store had to set up product shelves and then stock them with merchandise. Plus, I also had to support our Lay-A-Way section. So, I know what you mean about getting in a lot of daily exercise (smile ... smile).

I've had a weird experience applying for target work. As soon as i complete the application, it says im not qualified,..or something like that ..not necessarily unqualified, but i cannot be hired at this time. I have a very good track record. I tried 3x in my life. Always immediately after i get that response. Kinda hurt..not gonna lie. They're missing out. My bosses have all loved my work and me as a person. They all have ended up depending on me everytime for more than just my position requirements.

Older workers ? If I was an employer I'd hire an older worker every time. Why? They're reliable, sensible, good with customers, and do the job they're paid to do. Gen Z are always looking around for a supposedly better job. They are obsessed with their phones and social media, and call in sick if they have a row with their partner, and don't do a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. Give me older any time !
@itslisawright19 күн бұрын
I'm sorry you feel this way. I work with a lot of GenZ and they just have a different perspective. As I'm older now, I kind of appreciate how they can disconnect from the demands of a supervisor and and not worry about the old rules of work culture.

Indeed isn't helpful for me. There are a lot of ghost jobs on it in my area, and I've run into ageism on several occasions.
@itslisawright2 ай бұрын
So sorry. Thank you for letting me know. Good topic for me to look into and discuss in the future. You triggered some questions for me to dive into.
@MadamblueАй бұрын
@itslisawright ageism is REAL! I am 58 years old, and I KNOW that I was released from my company due to my age. Many tenure employees were let go. It's going on nine months and I will probably lose my home after Christmas.😢( A lot of companies keep jobs up as if they're looking because they're required to pretend that they're hiring)
@MadamblueАй бұрын
Same situation.😢 no savings left from having to care for my parents and almost 1 year since my company layoff. I have no family support system left. My savings is gone therefore I am now mostly living on Credit cards hoping for a response to be paid a Livable wage. I am intelligent and able to multitask multiple software programs and use dual monitors. I have my own equipment and yet I still can't even find a customer service position for $18 that will respond. The scam jobs can be time consuming as they are getting better at wasting our time. Typical ageism and ghosting.😢

Congrats. I prefer customer service people who are native to the country and area they are working in, so I respect a business that hires experienced people like you. I lose respect for a business if they hire only cheap labour (teenagers and immigrants who don't know anything about the products and don't care, or they don't speak English).
