I hope Jason reports back with UVW and perhaps compares that to "as built" UVW. There are some heavy builds in there. Nice...but heavy.
@GreenWitch17 ай бұрын
That’s not necessary with an Airstream. I have a triple axle, 34’ Airstream that weighs 10,000 lbs. An F250 pulls it with ease.
@billjennifer88037 ай бұрын
@@GreenWitch1 @earthcandleco It's a curiosity thing. That bathroom door is 1" hardwood. How heavy is that dinette? Jason's build quality is AAA but all that stuff looks way heavier than what would have been original to the unit. Doesn't he drive a F150?
@GreenWitch17 ай бұрын
@@billjennifer8803 Idk what he drives, but I doubt it’s heavier. Probably lighter. My “goucho” sofa weighs over 100 lbs. The old refers were very heavy compared to an electric model like I have. I added hardwood flooring to mine & it still pulls easily. It’s an aerodynamic thing.

I think one would at least want to know for sure. Especially to make sure one is still within the axle weight rating.

FYI for the people talking about there is a shower outside the camper. Those showers are for rinsing mud and sand off things before bringing them into the camper. They are not meant for personal hygiene. Shower water is regarded as Grey water and is usually either banned or outright illegal to dump directly onto/into the ground at most campsites and parks. Oregon where this airstream is housed, it is illegal to dump grey water with out a permit or recycling system in place to protect the water table as it ia considered sewage. So unless there is a water collection system configured, many RV sites will figure out real quick you are dumping. Also, if you RV you know many camps you are close to your neighbors and they will absolutely know you dont have a shower. I recommened bath houses or waterless shower wipes. Also, is there exhaust for that stove? Cause if not you are never gonna use that cook top. Grease and smell EVERYWHERE. Everything is your decision and the wood works great but RVing is work, and there are actual rules and things you need to know. A few tip videos on RV youtube channels and you would have made different choices and still would have a beautiful yet fully functional RV.

Just days before your first Airstream video came out, my wife bought the shell of a 29’ Airstream. $6k sunk. While you shipped yours off to boarding school to get properly mechanically refurbished, ours served as storage while my old garage/shop was demolished and rebuilt 3x larger. So 2 year later and we’re still at only $6k sunk. Ours is never intended to be road worthy again, so hoping we finish about 10x lower than yours. It’ll just be an extra sleeping accommodation in the woods when the kids show up with their spawn. But it’s been a pleasure to see what I’m in for.

Your work is incredible Jason. A few pointers from those who RV regularly. You should have pushed that bathroom cabinet back more next to the toilet. All that space behind it is wasted and you’ll want more shoulder room. Also not having a shower is gonna take its toll after a while. But the fit & finish looks incredible!

Great trick on painting doors. On your pocket door, remove that channel on the floor. Johnson makes a plastic covered blade that attaches to the floor at the at the leading edge of the door when open. You router a slot in the bottom of the door for it to run in. It also stops the door where you want it to be open. If you didnt use them, they make soft close and open hardware that holds closed and open. A nice feature for z house and better for a camper running down the road. Great build. Im sure it will get alot of views.

@rpontonjr7 ай бұрын
That aluminum guide on the floor for the bathroom door is going to be a toe magnet in the cramped confines of an RV! If you haven't already, be sure to pad that front edge. Also, you're never going to be guaranteed a perfectly level set up. Look at any surface that might have fluids on it, consider that the fluids may flow in any direction, and think about a backsplash or what you need to seal if that liquid goes the wrong way. For example, you don't want fluids from the bathroom counter to flow behind the counter and develop mold.

Nice job on the Airstream. As a seasoned camper, I give you three trips before you start wishing you had taken the time to build a shower into that thing. Using community showers at campgrounds SUCKS because people are pigs.
@scottdavis94427 ай бұрын
He does have an outdoor shower and depending on the campground he might be able to setup an outdoor shower house. Personally I would want a shower.
@akstylez69787 ай бұрын
The best solutions for that is to first find a campground that takes pride in cleanliness, and second, just wait until the campground cleans the bathrooms. I totally agree with you though that people can be pigs. But that's part of the ruffin' it experience.
@mnumzanemadoda49007 ай бұрын
I fully agree , really nicely built fittings and fixtures. The lack of a shower is a big mistake . Wouldn`t be too tough to convert it into a fibre glass wet room .
@ssolomon9997 ай бұрын
Adding a “proper” shower that would satisfy someone unhappy with what’s at the campground doesn’t seem so simple to me. I don’t think there’s enough room in the unit for a bedroom, eat-in kitchen and full bath. Which element you compromise on would depend on how you plan to use it. This configuration, where you can use the outdoor shower to rinse off muddy kids and maybe you get a hotel room every few days, seems like it’d work for a lot of people.

Here in Australia, many campgrounds have "ensuite sites" - powered campsites that have a little private bathroom. They cost a bit more than a standard site, but I consider it well worth the extra cost.

You have to wallpaper the panels on the doors and under the TP cubby. Overall a fantastic build. I see where some complain about the lack of a shower, Truck stop showers are an option, you avoid mold issues and the complexity that would add to your build.

Looks awesome. A word of caution using a level in RVs and boats is risky because neither vessel is ever level itself. So something level will often look tilted in relation to the walls. It will save you from pulling your hair out, by making things parallel to the deck or another reference surface.

P.S I read several of the comments about the shower. They call this kind of trailer a "Park Model" meaning you have to use the RV park's shower (Which, in most RV parks are pretty nice.) While an interior shower is nice most RVers use the shower in the RV park instead of having to manage all that grey water. Besides, showers in small trailers are always cramped and you would do a lot of elbow banging. When you do a video of camping, Jason (Which I know you will.) me and your other fans would appreciate your doing at least one scene with the white hockey mask and a machete!

Looks great I WOULD still do an audio system in it like a kenwood 2 din size with DVD and TV screen, and 4 6x9" speakers and a second LED type TV screen that works off the Stereo Or better yet a portable Lazer type projector you can aim at the side over a screen. Plop down lawn chairs and watch a dvd outside with. You also have room for a camp stove and other stuff. The projectors a pretty cool idea To show movies outside with. You can also use it in your driveway to watch football games on. The lazer units are pretty bright as long as sunlight don't hit the screen
