About the game:
Instruments of Destruction features an advanced physics-based destruction system. You can demolish every structure in the game piece by piece. In addition, every object you see in the game world--save for small decorative plants and rocks--is part of the physics system. Each element of the world interacts with each other and together they create a physical, visceral world to play with.
Build Your Vehicle
Build a vehicle your way, with an ever-expanding array of parts and pieces. Using an intuitive vehicle construction system that also lets you customize your vehicles' appearance and controls, you'll always have fun creating your next awesome invention.
From simple splitters to advanced joints, a variety of parts slowly unlock as you play through the game, and each unlocks countless new possibilities.
While some vehicles will perform better than others in accomplishing your objectives, it's always a bit more fun to get creative and go a little off script. Optional bonus challenges and objectives will reward more creative builders and add more replayability.

It looks wonky only because you've attached each beam differently from each other. Just by placing them consistently would make it visually much more pleasing.

He kind of took things a bit too literal I think. He tried to do an exact recreation when he could have done a simplified and more aesthetic build of making it symmetrical. Literally just attaching the flex beams from points set at 45 degrees on the outside, exiting at 90 degrees to opposing sides of a point in the middle would to then exit out of those on opposite sides and then repeat would have yielded better looking and more stable results. Him trying to keep everything at a theoretical 45 degrees off the gears made him settle for his janky design. Maybe if the channel was called Wedge builds he could have understood it better.

The reason it kept swaying (for the most part) was the non-symmetry of the bottom and top layer of the mechanism. If you make 2 layers identical and place 1 mirrored on top of the other, it should minimize the swaying. The swaying as a result of gear desync can't be solved though

There are a lot of suggestions about the side-to-side movement, and here's mine: When you built off of your gears, they were completely symmetrical. But after you exit build mode, the unpowered gear has to rotate a bit in order for teeth to catch each other. Since the gears move wanky anyway, it's kinda hard to notice the angle difference, but it does create the swaying

So i realize if you want to make this a single strike at a time device you could chance out the motor for a swivel set to min -90 and max 90 so the entire device goes from fully contracted to fully expanded when you click a button. Might actually make it more stable too as the repeating nature of the current set up seemed to create waves that cancelled each other out due to the flexing.

Oh, the way you accidentally hit the building mid-air gave me an idea! What if you make a contraption that severs the building from its base, launches it slightly into the air, and swings something like a giant baseball bat at it to send it flying? I know you made something that covers the first two things already, but perhaps some of the new parts might make this even easier and less likely to crumble apart.

full circle: you know what this reminds me of? Remember lego Bionicle? 8538 set "Muaka & Kane-Ra" - it was like a "game" for two, there was a "red bull" one, and a yellow "big cat" one (I had it as a kid, but the rubber bands are busted now, so it doesn't work anymore)... and there was an older one with green and purple machines punching each other (8257 "cyber strikers")... lego was whack back in the good old days ^^

The closest thing to an official term for this mekanism is a quote from ferb in the Phineas and Ferb episode "ask a silly question" where he compliments his sister on her use of the accordion arm. And after scouring google, and getting nothing, I say we use that term.

The "This is why you don't run with scissors" comment gave me an idea for a series: What if you took things that are allegedly very stupid and recreated them in video games? The next video in the series could be "don't sit too close to the TV" (where you build a TV screen out of lasers and fire that at a building from close range).

GASP! I'm about 30 seconds in and I'm completely appalled! Scrapman going to a BRICK channel?!?!? You've forsaken the Wedge way and have gone all square ...er, cube on us? This Scrapman is an imposter. A witch! We must wedgie him at the angles!!!! So you've done one thing sub-optimally that is increasing the chance of the thing going out of control. The fact that you've connected the flex beams at different angles on the blocks across the scissoring piston (essentially what the thing you've built) means that the force applied from the gears rotation is being applied at differing angles. The left side wanted to pull to the left and and backwards and push forwards and to the right, but the right side mainly wanted to push forward and pull back. This means the left and right forces were not equal and that made it want to flop side to side because it was not getting equal and opposing forces. If you mirror how the flex beams on the first left arm are connected to the right arm, you should get a more stable result. Try also spreading the gears out. By that I mean have two driven gears near the center that don't interact with each other, but go about 3 or 4 gears transferring out with the same gear size so that way the rotation is occurring on longer arms, if possible also make longer arms to compensate for the distance to hold the scissor piston. This will make the distance it travels both greater and the speed it travels faster, meaning you could get a punching machine that might be able to do a mechanical mach punch. But for max efficiency in the transferring of energy, you need to build the arms symmetrical as far as the connections go.

MULTIPLAYER MONDAY IDEA!!!!!! Use the portal mod from yesterday's Scrap Mechanic video. Put portals on the front and back of a "chaser" vehicle. Each person has a "runner" vehicle with limited size dimensions and top speed. During the event, each person takes a turn in the "chaser" vehicle, and the other two drive their "runners". All three vehicles would be confined to a walled arena space. Time the rounds to see how long it takes for the "chaser" to eat and disable the "runners". The Winner is the ""chaser" with the shortest time! There could be a standard, prebuilt "chaser", and the 15 minutes is spent to build a custom "runner". Or there could be a prebuilt "runner" vehicle with all the size and speed limitations, and each person take the 15 minutes to construct a "chaser" (this my be easier, because you wont have to sacrifice time fiddling with the limitations). Either way works! Awesome videos as always! Like this comment if yall think this would be cool!

if the size of the gear corelatess to the ammount of teeth on the gear, this rule would apply: smaller gear = more torque bigger gear = more speed
@hedwigmathijs3717
@hedwigmathijs3717 Жыл бұрын
I think most of the swaying was not due to the difference in flex beams on the top and bottom 'arms'. I think it is mostly the fact that the 2 gears have an even number of teeth. You see, when you build them the gears don't mesh but overlap and the moment you spawn it in, the gears move half a tooth worth to make them mesh. It's a tiny amount, but it changes the alignment ever so slightly. The rest of the arm acts as an amplifier for that error. See if you can change the number of teeth to an odd number so they can already mesh correctly during the building (odd numbered gears will allow you to do that). The desync caused by the glitching of the gears through each other at higher power/speed can't be helped I guess....

6:51 was why it wobbled the asymmetric attachment point cause lopsided rotation bothe the bottom and top arm need to attach at the same point ie if you do the bottom arm on the back the top one must be on the back, if one is attached two the side both must be, the gear skipping will still happen however.
