We're seriously considering relocating to the Northwest upon retirement in a decade. Our current home is in Texas, where the relentless heat challenges us year after year. Beyond the climate, the intense political climate here also nudges us towards a change. Washington state appears to offer a more balanced environment, which is quite appealing to us. Politics here often dominates conversations more than we'd like. We've recently discovered your channel, and it's been a treasure trove of information. We're hopeful you'll continue your fantastic work in Washington real estate by the time we're ready to make our move.

I’ve lived in WA state for almost 24 years and moved from the east coast to the east side of Seattle. We are planning retirement over the next several years and considered some more affordable states to retire towards the south east but most of those states are in a political war with each other so we decided to stay exactly where we are in WA. I have embraced the mild weather and just love the outdoor amenities this state offers. I’ll take the rainy months over hot/humidity and cold/snow we had in NJ any day! No place is perfect, although the Vancouver area is pretty darn close, the pros outweigh the cons IMO.

I have no idea why people think Texas is so great. Forced to go there because my daughter moved there. (She plans on leaving)Everything is so intense there, the people, the weather, the politics, the traffic.I find it very stressful just to visit. Always glad to get back to Missouri after going there.

I want so badly to move to the NW and escape the politics, weather and culture of TN, after 37 years in the south after moving here from the SF Bay Area. I only see posts about people leaving California to move to TN. Hopefully in a couple of years after my husband retires the value of our farm here will provide a purchase of a modest and comfortable place there. Thank you for your informative videos.

Thanks Hal!! I have been living in Prosper Texas for 5 years and i have visited every end of Texas in 2019 we bought into the American Dream good school zone district and safe environment. Over the years we realized that this town and the entire Texas state container would never be a good fit for us as a family unit no matter what area we moved to because the state values and ideas are still coming from the same source. I'm from West Hollywood California and I grew up in a small size apartment and I was surrounded by transgenders, gays, and all sorts of different types of people that my parents would invite into our home for Thanksgiving dinner and we had a very rich cultural experience as children. Since we have been living here in Texas it's extremely conservative and ignorant to say the least. Although, we have a huge single family detached home it's just not in our best interest to generate inhibited children without any culture so this is the main reason for our move to Portland metro. I think it really boils down to quality of life and being open minded.

We moved to the Portland area from Houston a few months ago and haven't looked back. Climate was our first reason (Houston's climate has become unlivable...you can barely spend any amount of time outside comfortably), landscape was our second (now that we can go outside, there's so much to see and do here!), and politics was our third (it was less of an issue living in a big city). You mentioned the heat and humidity in Austin and the rain in the PNW. Another note about Texas climate is that the Austin area has mostly been in a drought for the last 15+ years. Lakes are 20 feet lower than they used to be, rivers are dry...it's awful. In Houston, Hurricanes and flooding have become the norm. I never wanted to buy a house there because there was a high likelihood it would flood at some point, even if your neighborhood had never flooded before. The PNW is like a dream land to us. I know there are people who are concerned about so many out-of-staters moving here but it's a result of choices our society has made over the last many decades. Those choices have consequences and they mean the migration north isn't going to stop any time soon.

Grew up in WA for 11 years, lived in VA for 20, now in Texas for a year and we’re ready to move, your description is quite accurate and another thing we realized is that the winters are nice relatively weather wise minus the random freeze weeks here and there but the allergies are bad here, sadly! Also, really dislike the roads and driving and obsession with giant trucks.

I moved to camas from northwest Arkansas..Texans are moving to Arkansas in droves. All the Texans I talked too, related it’s the rat race crime and traffic ..they are fleeing Dallas, Austin and Houston. Not one Texan had ever mentioned because of politics. All the Californians I talked to in Arkansas basically related the same story but more Californians did mention because of Gavin Newsom.

I am a retired widow currently living in the country east of Portland. Seriously considering moving back to Washington now as opposed to highly suggested states of Texas, Florida, AZ or the Carolinas. I grew up in central WA east of the cascades but also lived in San Diego, and most of my married life in Oregon because of husband's job relocation, and 9 years midway in Seattle area. Most of my 6 siblings and their families relocated to those other states I mention from west coast after the pandemic, but my kids and grandkids are still in the PNW. After a lot of researching, all things considered, I am thinking that the PNW, probably Washington is where I should stay if I can afford to. It IS very beautiful here and very temperate climate all around. I would hope I can make it work with my resources.

I left Alabama to move to Oregon. At the time, I couldn’t afford Washington. It’s getting crazy down there. My number one is they are using my taxes for religion. Including making religious laws. And it’s highly political in the south. There are people who won’t hang with you because you aren’t part of the church. And second was climate. You guys are so fortunate here.

Washington state may look nice now, but the way politicians are handling the state will lead to a disaster. Politicians let an 18 year old boy off after he ended 3 people in a car accident, the homeless are out of control, the costs of living are following California (Seattle has a 26/hr delivery wage and many counties are now 20/hr), this state is becoming a sanctuary for illegals, and businesses are slowly leaving. Gas prices are also high. You cannot survive in this state off of 25/hr. Rent at 1.5k/month is the low-end for an apartment. Things are taking a turn for worse with illegalizing eggs that aren't cage-free, banning styrofoam food packaging, and other things. Opening a business here is becoming impossible too. Forget having no income tax- you'll need all your money to survive because of the high costs of living. The weather is another story. If you can deal with year-around rain and 4:30 PM sunsets during winter time, then alright.

Lived in Washington for 5 years and moved to Texas 3 years ago. Outside of having better places to hike and snowboard, there is nothing about Washington that is better and personally I would never move back. If you have pets, kids, senior citizens or respiratory issues in your life any place that doesn’t pride itself on not having AC (not just Texas) is a better option than Washington. Not putting AC in your housing is not a badge of honor, it’s a health hazard especially now. 20 years it may have been passable but everyone else has progressed with the times and now residents are suffering. Also traffic is about as bad as I ever seen (originally lived in DC) and air quality, especially when factoring in forest fires, is not good. Do your own research don’t listen to everything you see on the internet. 250k people left King County alone in 2021. That should speak volumes.

Agree. Crime, homeless here in the PNW is out of control unless you are lucky enough to live in a rich Eastside suburb. Many times I wonder if I should have stayed in Texas where I never felt unsafe and cost of living is much lower than the PNW. Also the climate in the PNW sucks 9 months out of the year.
