If the piston “wobbles” , or goes close to one side then the other, it’s not a rod it’s a wrist pin. Now with being said there is always room for miss judgement so you check and recheck. Not very many people can catch what you just did. They would just put it together. The next thing that would happen is they would have a knock that they could not find. But the head gasket would put enough space between the head and the piston. Sooner or later they would begin to experience trouble.

Cams are available from most of the major manufacturers

Wow, you've had a run of bad luck. Let me know who your engine builder is. I want to NEVER use him. A torque converter or flex plate that came loose (I wasn't clear on which), a twisted harmonic balancer, a warped head, doesn't want to pass on the refund to the customer -- this is not the builder for me. Also, the name of your tuner. A tuner that doesn't know how to use all the tuning features of a fuel injection system? No thanks.

I don't speak the name of the engine builder anymore. And I agree that he absolutely didn't handle the cam situation correctly. But, in his defense, the harmonic balancer moving was due to the harmonics created during the over-rev on the dyno. And that is what shook the bolts loose between the torque converter and flex plate. The warped head is assumed to be a heat soak issue brought on by lack of proper airflow (fans were to small in front of the truck) during dyno tuning. Plus the engine was being run hard and periodically being shut off to reset the ECU during that time. That combo is the running theory anyway. Since the rebuild the truck has not been back on a dyno. It has been street tuned by Scott Clark with RealTuners. He is the 3rd tuner I've worked with on this project and the only one that wasn't intimidated by it. Top notch tuner if you're looking for someone. The truck runs like a champ now!

@@SquaredAwayGaragethe people on the dyno crashed your motor. They should have known better than to do that. I’m not a dyno man but they should have watched the high rpm curve and backed out of it.

@@stansmith1911 He was watching the power curve. The engine was continuing to make power up to and beyond the 6200 rpm he ran it to. It wasn't totally his fault. I knew that it needed to be shut down sooner. Originally the ECU had an electronic rev limit set at 5200. He started a new tune and I didn't think to tell him to reset the rev limit. Mistakes were made all the way around and harmonics were able to do their damage.
