I just got mine! Wow, just WOW!! The improvements are many and one, in particular, surprised me greatly. There is one fantastically curvey road that my sportbike club in my area use and abuse. We hold nothing back and almost every Sunday it turns into a TT race lol. Normally I fill up on gas before hitting it and my BMW S1000RR gives me a range of about 155miles when full. Before the dampener, after pushing hard through this road, my range would fall to about 55miles remaining. This Sunday I got to test out the Oversuspension and at the end of the run, my range was at 90miles remaining. This product calmed my bike down so much I found that I was not having to use trail brake and then push my engine as much to get back to full power after heavy curves and corners allowing me to save a giant amount of fuel. This is just one of the many improvements I found.

Just spoke to a ‘racing contact’ at Ducati. He seemed to suggest that this damper shown on the the Motogp Ducati was merely to assist with preserving the Integrity of the ECU and other electronic sensors located in the carbon fibre ‘Lunch Box’ on their motogp bike, as without it their electronics would get shaken to bits. As you are probably all aware, that’s where Ducati located a lot of their electronics. It was mentioned that the bike could be a bit ‘vibey’ and the dampers help to reduce the chatter and shake in the tail section of the motorcycle. This guy isn’t a tech on the Motogp team, but is part of the racing programme for Ducati. I’d love to see more data on this from an actual racing team though for sure! 👍

@SSR Suspension This raises a few questions. What frequencies were you specifically aiming to attenuate? How did you tune the device to the specific requirements? And what damping ratio were you aiming for? I assume you didn't just fit it and run it?
@stevemurtz35463 жыл бұрын
@SSR Suspension thank you for this detailed answer from someone who is in the know. I am no boffin by any means but when it comes to motorcycle suspension I am of the view that nothing can ever be plug and play. There is simply no way a device can work for every weight of rider on every type of bike. One rider uses Pirelli the other uses Bridgestone. It's just impossible. Then add the fact they want you to tune it on feel without data?? How is that even possible if most riders can't even feel if their normal suspension is working? Slapped a ton of go faster bits on my bike but the biggest time jumps came from proper tyres being used in the proper manner and paid a suspension technician to set the bike up for my weight and pace.

I can tell you this it rides rougher, I feel every bump the rear tire sticks better and dosen't float over the bumps and my traction control doesn't go wanky through those rough corners on low lake road like it used to, before it would be flashing like crazy, now it doesn't. I have highsided before , so this device was recommended and installed, at the shop i have all my work completed, on my v4 Tuono.

Lots of good info, but a few mistakes too. One is the example of sitting at the back of the bus - very different than putting a mass damper at the end of the swingarm. Back of the bus would be similar to why Ducati places theirs in the tailsection, another time when he fails to accurately describe the situation. Kind of surprised its use in F1 wasn't discussed. Lots of info out there about that, if you enjoyed this video you should watch those. Mass dampers have been around for a very long time and are thoroughly understood. The author of this video far overstates the benefits for road bikes. You will only see them used in extreme cases where damaging oscillations occur. For example, buildings in southern California will have them but buildings in Indiana will not. In the same was racing motorcycles will have them and road going motorcycles will not.
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback mate , much appreciate it, please watch Part 1 of the video , in there I discuss buildings, trains, F1 Renault 2005-06 car, pylons and quite a lot of things. The bus example is from Transport of London buses, I spoke to them to clear my doubts and they mentioned that the main reasons they started putting engines at the back was to counter the Giddiness please were feeling in the bus, the engine and torsion bars acted as a sort of mass damper which counter acted any undue back movement. I really appreciate the time you took to see the video in detail. I really request you to watch part 1.

@@ChasingTenths I agree about the bus, however that maps to the Ducati arrangement but not the swingarm mounted location you were trying to compare to. Here at @DMrPerformanceSuspension we have been developing a mass damper for a few years. Hello - the principle of using a tuned mass damper to "damp" out chatter (seismic osculation of the unsprung mass) is sound. But, the mass damper needs to be tuned to the same natural frequency as the device you wish to damp. Does this product offer different different bouncy masses and spring rates to tune? I'm very wary of a one-size-fits-all solution. For example, a Ducati 848, using stock wheels on a single sided swing arm (heavy) with a Pirelli tire (soft spring) and softer shock spring will have a much lower natural frequency than a ZXYFZRRR with a lighter dual sided swingarm, aftermarket wheels, (light) and Dunlop tires (stiff).

If you want feedback, here's why I havn't purchased one. Just one man's opinion. The reason is that while you show great theory, I don't see it in a demo of some kind, and not enough testimonials from real riders not being paid by the company. But as the say goes, if theory matched the real world result, we'd all be communists (ok ok some of us are too stupid to learn from history, but that's another thread all together). What the OEM of this product should do, is take a GoPro and show the rear tire on a road with lots of undulations, particularly on the corner. Show the bike from a macro and micro view. THEN do the same with your oversuspension. PROVE how the tire stays planted with the device and how the chatter causes slip without it. You do that ? And you'll prove your case and people will buy. At this point, it's too new, and it's not cheap enough to be an impulse buy.

Anti-Slide control already does much to prevent high sides. Why are you suggesting that there is a benefit to the late model Aprilias, they all have anti-slide and cornoring ABS. What am I missing ? Also, what about improvements to handling such as affects to turn in, enabling the bike to feel more planted and plush, etc.. ?
@MrilModena4 жыл бұрын
It makes work Every Tc Better....when a Tc works it causes many vibrations on the rear...this device reduce or nullify this vibration and keep the tyre in contact with tarmac....it also reduce sliding and tyre temperature and consumption ...
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate , seems like Andrea explained it quite well. Electronic aids have actually got nothing to do with this device but on the contrary when this device nullifies the oscillations it prevents electronic aids to come on and reduce the power. TC works through torque reduction . And this device makes sure that you have a constant contact patch so electronic aids don’t even intervene and reduce power or unpredictability. When ABS comes on it causes huge vibrations so this counters that. Improved handling is purely by stabilisation of rear and front, and better contact patch so you get better grip and dynamic ride-ability. The bike goes through many changes, vibrations, oscillating movements... and some vibrations are good and they get countered by tyre, chassis , swingarm and a good rear shock but many vibrations get missed out which can trigger instability. 1 vibration is measured in 1 hertz and any undue hertz which cause issues get countered by this device . That’s why it’s used in WSBK, MOTO3 , MOTO2 and MOTOGP plus F1 in 2005-06 (Renault F1, it was too effective on aero so it was Banned by the FIA)

@ChasingTenths Жыл бұрын
@@steverielly thats a good point, rear planted, thats what it basically does with small tiny changes, most Moto 2 and motoGP teams use it to get rid of those tiny oscillations which can cause bigger stresses and issues for the rider. it's definitely a brilliant invention, I loved the science behind it , when I did the two videos , I only wanted to decipher it or explain it but since then its been used in British and World super bikes and got banned after 3 races lol with other teams complaining, they wouldn't complain if they knew it wasn't any good

Do you have some more info? Did you test for yourself? I have serious doubts about this product because placing a damper in a salad box or in the swingarm is not the same as adding at the end of the swingarm ...
@ChasingTenths3 жыл бұрын
Swingarm is actually an excellent place to put this , That’s where they put it on the British Superbike Ducati and World Superbike Ducati , MOTOGP are prototype bikes, the R and D for them is totally ok different level, and like I mention in the video , they can put the damper where ever their rider tells them to put or sensors . In Moto2 they put it on the swingarm, and front axle. Due to lockdown all my euro Trackdays are cancelled : Almeria 3 days , Jerez 3 days , Portimao 4 days and I had tests planned with another Aprilia , same bike, same rider weight , we both even do same laptimes but unfortunately coronavirus spoiled everything. I will test it in U.K. on the one day Trackday not I think in one day I don’t think a thorough test can be done but I will still try . Other people have tried this in Italy, Portugal and Spain and everyone’s feedback has been positive. But I will make a third video on it , on the track with hopefully some sensors in the swingarm and I will post it. The science behind the product is proven otherwise major race teams wouldn’t use it , plus they never release the data on it which is frustrating, as it’s race data
@krisjohnston30264 жыл бұрын
Great explanation of the principle behind the mass damper, but have you actually tried and tested this product before you give the sales pitch. I am sceptical of how useful this is to the average rider, I have no doubt before race teams are using it that it helps but they have a team of date analysists to set up to perfection. I would say if it can prevent a high side if it is set up correctly then it’s probably more likely to cause a high side if it is set up wrong, plus have you read the instructions on the web site fairly vague to say the best. In your next video you should try the product to see if it is worth club racers and track day rider investing in this product before you plug it too hard and it ends up being just a lump of metal for £300.
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
Kris Johnston no mate, it won’t cause a high side if installed incorrectly. It will just not work properly. I haven’t personally tried it as all my trackdays have been refunded due to the lockdown . But 4 people I know who are quick riders and have tried this and it’s worked for them . Rest we will learn along as this thing gets common . Installing this device isn’t quantum physics, you just have to adjust it properly and calibrate it, plus I have spoken to the company . They are always there to give a helping hand over the phone if someone struggles. 7 other guys I know who have bought it, everyone is just waiting for tracks to start again

Hi mate , the figure is 90 percent , however as mentioned in the video unfortunately it’s the race team’s testing data from the Barni Racing team and because they are currently using that device in world super bikes with Marco Melandri (2020-21), under no circumstances they are prepared to release that information, I have asked the factory 3 times now and the response is no. The data comes from Michele Pirro and Michael Rinaldi testing the bike relentlessly in 2018 to 2019 with the device on. However , I will be doing a 3rd video on this device with hopefully if I gain something from that race team’s data until then we’ll just have to take their word for it .

Yes, this year I did 9 Trackdays on it in the fast group . I found the differences subtle but they were certainly noticeable at certain points for example when my rear grip was gone & home out of corners , the slide was beautiful & progressive. No nasty surprises , the rear end feels much more stable , even on braking hard the rear was much stable , mid corner there is stability too but it’s all very subtle and hence I deliberately didn’t have this on my bike last year as I totally upgraded my suspension but this year I feel definitely there is a sublime difference

Looking at purchasing for my 2016 zx10r. I pretty much only street ride. Is it worth it for just street use? It’s $500
@ChasingTenths Жыл бұрын
Personally i would say not worth it for street unless you ride like your underpants are on fire every single turn lol … it’s just my personal opinion that I think it’s more suited for tracks :)

I am having troubles understanding how to adjust the oversuspension. I mean how to tune it +- , when should you increase and decrease? Looking for some help after purchasing this after seeing ur video
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
Hi Phillip , I am ever so sorry for the late reply, I don’t get notifications for all the comments. You have to go by the feel on the over suspension, once you install it, you can go up, medium or down depending on how you feel on the track or road . I am installing mine next month and I’ll be doing some work on it . I’ll keep you posted. Let me know if you need further help and I’ll speak to the factory in Italy for you ASAP

So did this “up to 90%” data ever get released?
@ChasingTenths2 жыл бұрын
All I can say is Ducati are absolutely adamant they don't want this data to be released , they won't even allow Barni racing team to release it. That can only mean its good data , this is coming from a very high profile source. all I can say is , this year I did endurance racing and I nearly had 6 high sides in my long stints but I was ok, I am not saying it was this device who saved me , could be a million reasons , but its definitely there as a safeguard. I am gutted that Ducati have been so tough with this data , I am still keeping my fingers crossed and I will definitely make a follow up video , its been long time in waiting , thanks for a very valid question and I am so sorry for the late reply , I try to answer all comments asap

A rather disingenuous comparison of the Honda Torque control system with the traction control systems of the 2010 S1000rr and 2011 Aprillia APRC considering neither of those utilised an IMU for traction control. A fairer comparison would be the 2016 S1000rr, or 2015 R1.
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
Yes I totally understand what you mean Bill and I know what you are trying to explain. But I was only trying to explain the terminology more than the actual technology behind the Honda Torque Control. I am definitely aware that recent traction control is definitely much much better than ones from a decade ago. But I appreciate your understanding. Thanks for watching the video :)

How would it work on a twin shocks?
@ChasingTenths4 жыл бұрын
LCR77 hi mate, same principle with the twin shock , it gets installed to the lowest part of the bike , mainly swingarm and it goes the same job. It doesn’t mount to the shock and you don’t need two of these for twin shocks . One does the job big time

I’ve got the part mate, the part is brand new and definitely not tried it yet due to lock down but I am flying to Mugello race track next month so it gives me 4 day’s to test it. I recently did Silverstone circuit and Donington part circuit and I did not install this part yet because I have recently changed my front and rear suspension to race spec ohlins so there was no point testing this device on brand new suspension. Once I know how my suspension is behaving on the track and it’s characteristics then I will install the over suspension device .
