Nice job. I have a project that is something similar coming up but was not looking forward to re-doing all the springs. This might work, thanks for the tip.

Thank you for your feedback. I will more often than not take everything out of old furniture as sometimes the frame needs a bit of TLC. This particular chair is quite young and the webs were the originals so to over web them worked out. On older furniture, if the frame seems sound and there are a couple of layers of webbing I would advice you strip out a layer or two and re-web over the base layer as it does affect how even and smooth the underside of the chair looks. Good luck with your projects.

I was quite confused and wondering how this would be improving the comfort. Then I realized the chair was upside down at the start of the video. So "over webbing" in this context is really placing new webbing *under* the springs. Good video, now that I understand it!

Thank you for the comment. I realized this would make a nice short video so I didn't set it up properly, just carried on. I am glad it was of use to you, good luck with your project.

Thank you for the video. I have a project. It is 1930's spring chair. It has very complex spring cage, with multiple sizes of springs. Unfortunately, some of them are broken. I can't find anything similar done on KZbin. Would you change all the springs in the cage, or replace only the broken one? Thanks.

Thank you for the question. My first thought was to look on eBay, or even Amazon and see if anyone has a set of springs in a cage or springs that might be of a similar size that might fit. It might take a little searching but there might be an upholstery place close to you that is willing to either help find a supplier to help with the springs. I try to keep the integrity of the piece I am working on as a general rule. Good luck with your project.

I'm new to this and my chair has springs. They need to be secured and I was going to use burlap. When I got the chair that's what it had. So I guess I need to get webbing also.

Thank you for your question. I used the webbing under the chair seat to make sure the springs were tight under the chair and to make sure the seat didn't sink down. Sewing the spring on top and bottom was to make sure that they didn't eventually slide over again as that stresses them. I generally put burlap or another fabric over the top if it is just going over the tied-in springs. As this had the webbing on top of the springs I did not bother, as there was enough support for the foam to rest on. To get the right length of webbing measure the lengths that you need and add about 1.5 m /1 1/2 yards to the length for turnings as well as enough to be able to pull it in with the web stretcher. Good luck with your project.

I would suggest webbing over what you have and then catching the original webbing to the new ones if you feel that anything will shift. I will only re-web chairs if they are falling through the bottom and what is already there is falling apart, otherwise I preserve what is there as the next time the chair needs to be upholstered other things might need to be fixed at that time.

Thank you for the information. I asked a couple of upholsterers about this when I first came to the US but they must not have known this or just didn't want to give information over to the possible competition. I will go through all my videos with webbing in and update the information in the description. I really appreciate this and it is nice to learn something new even after all this time.
