I’m curious what you think of practical stunts by Tom cruise in MI or Tom Hardy in Mad max. I really agree that Hollywood has lost the art of practical stunts just curious what you think about movies like that :) I’m also curious your thoughts on directors like Christopher nolan who opt for real set pieces over cgi when possible. Edit: Jesus Jackie is built like a mother heffer!

I saw an interview where Jackie said he didn't like doing movies for Hollywood cause they won't let him do 128 takes on a 2 second shot to get it just right. Chinese cinema let's him do that. Yeah he's an absolute perfectionist and artist
@ihavekalashnikovyoudomath92752 жыл бұрын
Makes me wish Jackie could make his own studio and makes movies with the quality he wants. Not just make movies, but find and train people with the same perfectionist mentality. Not just actors, but stutmen, camera crew, grips and gaffers, writers, editing, the whole production. Jackie has a very specific style, so it's likely someone with his mentality will have their own specific style that has to propagate throughout the whole production. For example, when a punch is thrown in a Jackie movie, sometimes to emphasize the hit, the edit should show the hit twice. Show the hit in wide, cut to a closer shot where the punch hits again. In Hollywood editing, the hit is never shown. They show all the way up to the hit, and then cut to the reaction. It shows that in order for a vision to be realized, all steps in the production has to be on the same page
@nyetloki2 жыл бұрын
That and Hollywood cuts on every hit. Instead of letting a fight happen naturally

Brings to mind a quote from the game Furi. "We are what repeatedly do. Excellency is a habit". Come to think of it, that particular boss thinks the best way to fight an alien cyber-samurai is an oar and copious amounts of training. There's a connection here i think 🤔.

I'm not surprised you like Jackie Chan. Avatar really reminded me of him. One of the big things that makes me like both is how creative they are with martial arts choreography. Whenever people ask me if I like action films, I always think of something like that and want to say "yes", but then I remember they're probably asking if I like cars and guns.

I just realised I'm the same even though I didn't see that many Jackie Chan's movies. Cars and guns just don't work for me most of time.

Statement of fact: Jackie Chan is The singular greatest action actor of all time, not Sylvester Stallone not Arnold Schwarzenegger not Bruce Willis not Bruce Lee not John Wayne or Clint Eastwood but Jackie Chan. Absolute fact. I’ll say that Tom Cruise puts in an incredibly high level of effort as well I might truly be the master of the number two slot but Jackie Chan still exists which precludes the GOAT spot.

Can we talk about the sheer nie-superhumanity of Bruce Lee? He attained such perfect honing of his body and extreme talent that he once one-inch-punched through three HANGING BOARDS in a SINGLE STRIKE. He once took on two players at once in ping pong, WITH A PAIR OF NUNCHUKS, _AND WON._ Do you know how _hard_ it is to use nunchuks effectively, much less achieve the sheer precision required to play _ping pong_ with them? and he beat TWO GUYS AT ONCE like that! There's footage of that match on youtube to this day!

I've always been a big fan of Jackie Chan and his work, since my dad showed me alot of his films when i was younger. He would mention where he suffered which injury while we were watching, which gave me huge respect for him. I did not know however, that he directed most of his films himself, makes it even more impressive. I think this is the perfect direction to take for the channel. The reason i love your stuff is your style of Analysis, but this shows that you can apply that to other things very well. As long as the topic you're covering is something YOU have a passion for, i will watch every second of it!

What makes Jackie Chan so recognizable to me is his style of direction and choreography, both of which are vastly different than Bruce Lee's. I love that we have two very iconic and classic approaches to the same niche genre.
@LordRunty2 жыл бұрын
I love Jackie Chan, he's absolutely incredible. I always want more of him, and I also kind of lowkey hope there's never another Jackie Chan, because all those injuries he's sustained over his career, they're just crazy. But it's also a big part of why Jackie Chan is so amazing. Nothing feels as real as his scenes and his fights because they just aren't as real. They feel like something someone in a desperate situation would do, and the crazy lad did it. But the dedication to the long takes where there's hundreds of tries until it's near perfection? That's something I wish Hollywood would do more of. Shaky cameras and cuts every 5 seconds will never be good.

@marzipancutter81442 жыл бұрын
I think the worse his injuries were in those scenes, the more he wanted to finish it. Normal takes, he can repeat whenever he wants. But after a stunt like the pole drop, he knows he only has this one take, he isn't going to be able to take a fall like that twice in one day. So he keeps on trucking because it's the only chance he's going to get for the perfect take, and that's an amazing mindset.
