A clear explanation of the ideal bite overjet for various ppl with different teeth size. My overjet sit right on 3mm because my central incisor side it kind of thick and take up more space as you mention.

I have an overbite and I asked a dentist or orthodontist how to correct it. I think they said they would have to reset my jaw. Something like that. This was a while ago.

It depends on how much dental overjet and whether your jaw relationship contributes to the overjet. Talk to your orthodontist to get clarification on your specific case.

my Orthodontist says that she can only fix my overbite with a 1.5year braces and jaw surgery treatment this made me very sad... i wore braces for 3years... I dont want surgery :/ she says that braces again would be useless and she wont do it (waste of time for her she wants me in the treatment 100% OR NOT) Is it true that invalisgn/alligners cant correct an overbite? I dont really trust my new orthodontist... my old orthodontist is RETIRED

Thankyou for the info doc! I have an excessive overbite teeth, it's uncomfortable, but i can't afford the expense for braces. Would it still be fixable even after my teen years?

Great question. Yes, you can have orthodontic correction later in life. In fact, I had excessive overbite too and got braces in my mid twenties when I had the means to pay for it myself.

Hello, In the overjet case, the 2-3mm refers to the gap between the bottom teeth front "wall" to the top teeth back area?, or 2-3 mm from the front "wall" of bottom to front "wall" top teeth?! Thank you

Good question. Use the same reference point so front wall upper to front wall lower or incisal tip of lower.

Yes, clear aligners do correct deep bites but it depends on the severity of your deep bite as well as other factors (whether you have growth potential, your musculature, whether you clench, your face type, the skill and experience of your doctor, etc).

Do all overjets require correction?

The ideal overjet is between 1-3 mm. However, that may not always be the goal or it may not be attainable for everyone (due to upper and lower jaw discrepancies, missing teeth, Bolton discrepancies, class II or III malocclusions, etc). Sometimes jaw surgery may be necessary. A thorough exam with an orthodontist is the best way to come up with a treatment plan that supports each person’s goals and desires.

Does Invisalign correct overbite? I finished my first part 32/32 trays, but I can see that I have an overbite (at least I see it un front of my mirror), so I guess Invisalign could correct it with refinements, right?

Correction of deep bites is something that aligners can do. Sometimes bite ramps are added. Significantly deep overbites in adults with flat mandibular plane angles may require braces and/or TADs.

It can happen, especially if your teeth are crowded or tipped in on the top. The overjet can decrease with elastics and/or IPR.

Because your question is very specific, it’s best to ask your dentist. Box elastics are used to settle the bite so that the top and bottom teeth come closer together. See the elastics 101 video for more detail.
