Agreed. I never ran a mainstream game above 900p on my Ally. I also just purchased the Ultra 5 Claw variant (it was on sale for 500$) and updated it. Everything runs well on 720p/900p when overboost is on. Looking forward for future updates where overboost is no longer needed.

800p is plenty for 7-8inch devices and it gives you better battery life and most of these handhelds can barely handle 1080p gaming - either performance is low or battery dies almost immediatelly so you need to lower the game quality and resolution anyway.

Really wanted to see if throttlestop or similar program could help improve performance on this device. It basically helps to send more power to the GPU, and this is done via software. It really helped on the Intel I7-1165G7.

with the Ally X coming, I'm hoping it will force them to drop the price a bit, especially if the Ally X is going to be at the same price point. Even if the claw is technically more powerful, the Ally X is most likely going to be the better device. With the warranty/customer service issues going on at Asus I would rather not give them my money, but the price to performance value for the claw just makes it not worth it right now.

Then 5months later it started to get better and better same with rog ally. Claw is already getting better with updates. Some people dont have $900 to spend wait a year it will be down $500 on ebay. But I'm really waiting on the acer heard it will be $450 new and has a better apu than ally x

Hmm the highest the iGPU boosted was some 2250 in Tomb raider. For the remainder it was at 1800 max, usually around the 1400-1500MHz mark. They seem to have a power issue there, the CPU cores are too greedy. The power distribution still needs some work.

OK, so this is how the performance would had looked at launch. Better than the Ally. But not for long with Ally X releasing soon. One thing MSI has always has been better than Asus? Warranty. Interesting to see the Claw go from a non-starter to ending up better than the Legion Go and Ally original release versions. At least in terms of performance.

155H CPU eats power from iGPU. At the moment 135H version is priced as Ally with Z1 (non Extreme). I also recommend to switch off in BIOS two ultra low power E-cores. They are unnecessary and also take power form iGPU.

I don't know why but I'm mostly interested in the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus lol, stupid name, but I want Intel to succeed in the GPU space! I want there to be more competition in the duopoly that is AMD and Nvidia! So if the performance is good and stability is good I'm gonna buy the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus, just not on launch. I'll wait a few after it's release to ensure it'll work well enough for me to spend money on.

The MSI claw is obsolete after the launch of the ROG Ally X that has an 80wH battery, versus 53WH for the flaw, 24 GB RAM at 7500 Mhz versus 16 GB for the claw, and finally support for USB 4.0 that will now allow the ROG Ally to connect to third party eGPUs such as the OneXGPU, GPD G1 etc. MSI must launch a new version soon to stay competitive in this market. 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage simply won't cut it anymore.

The ROG Ally has its problems too.Within 4 months of owning my ROG ALLY both my joysticks stopped working I had to replace them with hall effect ones. My rog ally kept overheating after within sicks months of owning so I bought a backplate that allows more airflow to keep my temps below 81c. The updates someone help.and sometimes they harm any game I'm playing in FNV&4 AMD drivers can sometimes break those games, those drivers actually mess up my emulators too RPCS3, Dolphin, Citra, Xbox and Xbox 360 emulator games like TDU2, Sims 3. And lately after 8 months of owning My Rog Ally windows update corrupted the OS making me have to factory reset it, no I don't have a new SSD no my device wasn't unplugged no my device didn't disconnect from wifi and no it did not turn off during the update ASUS also refused to fix my device because I opened it. so im interested in the MSI Claw im just waiting for better updates..... and a little bit of extra cash lol

While it's great that MSI is actively working to fix the performance issues on the Claw, I dont think throwing more power to overcome those deficiencies is the right move. The Ally with current FSR 2.0/AFMF can achieve similar or better performance than the Claw at lower TDPs.

I'm curious about the performance with msi after burner overclocking the msi claw cpu and gpu with msi over boost enabled with the max tdp. Crysis remastered is the game I play on every device as a reference and benchmark with can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings with v sync always off, motion and blur always off. Even in native 4k on my gaming pc since I only play in native 4k and nothing less than 4k resolution, with can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings in crysis remastered. I always enable ray tracing and upscaling like dlss always off since I never upscale any games that I play, ray tracing experimental boost always enabled. With metro exodus enhanced edition in native 4k with ray tracing, I never use dlss, I never use v sync and motion blur since they are always off. With games that support unlimited frame rates, I always enable unlimited frame rates and frame rate cap always off.
