My mother used to say "Man proposes, God disposes" - meaning we humans can make all the plans we like, but God eventually decides whether those plans will succeed or fail. You cannot control external factors - just how you respond to them; and your response is commendable! Good lesson, thank you, and you will have a stellar garden this year!

Sharing bad with good is how you do teach people, nothing is ever perfect all the time. Ability to reset and readjust to situations is what matters and how you go about it, and in that you are great example. My last frost date is May 15th and last year we where not able to put anything in garden till end of May do to late freeze ,people that did lost all of it and had to redo it.

I was without power for 2 days here in south-central Louisiana. I was so thankful when the power came back on because my seedlings needed light sooo badly. I was lucky in that I didn't lose anything but a couple of dill seedlings. I had made a make-shift "greenhouse" in my kitchen using my gas stove and ambient heat from cast iron skillets on the burners so at least they didn't get too cold. I think I would have lost more otherwise.

As a young gardener just down the street, near downtown Houston, I too felt the damage of the recent weather. I use a similar concrete block style raised bed, that I tried protecting. To my surprise, after finally deciding to dig out seeds/young plants I found there to be plenty of life. Anyways, this past week things like Lillys, peas, onions, potatoes, kale, and strawberries bounced back in a BIG way much to my surprise. I’m curious to see how it’ll affect harvesting. Thank you for all the knowledge you share and I look forward to see what your garden has in store this year!

Your tomatoes do look pretty sad, but I wonder if a feeding with some blackstrap or agricultural molasses and a bit of fish emulsion or kelp might perk them up? You could do a comparison experiment, and plant some of them out, with the feeding, and the others feed and let them harden off a bit longer, and then plant them out mid March. Just a thought, as you have nothing to lose. This weather has left us all a bit skittish. My house has a lot of windows, so mine faired okay when the power went down. Also, my tomatoes and peppers were started a lot earlier than normal this year, so as a result, I believe they were a bit stronger to tolerate the 48 degree temperature INSIDE. Hopefully my garden has overcome the aminopyralid issue, and I can actually get a harvest this year. Say a prayer!

Hello there! If you think the weather is not right to plant your tomatoes, don't do it. They are going to do better under your grow lights or taking them in and out. The cool weather is going to do more harm to them. They are in distress. If you think their growth have been stunted just buy new ones. Once they get stressed it's really hard to get them out of that stage. Hey! we plan our gardens and mother nature have the last word. 😉 Best of luck. Have a wonderful and blessed day. ❤🙏
