Great video. Several additional strategies to prevent stuttering blocks are 1. Practice in the mirror saying your block word over and over again. 2. Get your mind off the specific letter, number or word which has the stuttering block. In this case since he had the block on the number 7, he should focus on the next number. Remember your mind can only have one though at a time. If your thought is the stress in saying the block and your mouth is trained to stutter at that occurrence, you will continue to do so. 3. Slightly bite your lip in a unnoticeable way before this anticipated stutter. It is extremely difficult to stutter if your mouth is in a unfamiliar position. 4. Focus in on an lead word before the the anticipated stutter. Remember the goal is to take your mind way from the anticipated letter/number/word.

I stutter more when I’m like trying to prevent a stutter. Sometimes I actually speak fluently and then I think back “Wow, I actually spoke without a stutter” and then realise when I did that, I was not thinking about my stutter at all. So I think being aware of and focused on my stutter actually makes me stutter 🥹

Loved this clip. It reinforced stuff I have figured out by myself. I feel when I will stutter. Faking confidence, yes. And my best story from when I remember my stuttering started. I didnt know it then, but my best friend helped me, stop, breath and go again. By holding my shoulders, looking me in my eyes and telling me to stop and breath. Then I knew he would wait for me to be ready to talk. I could take my time.

bro you made my day , i used to stutter from my childhood , and got stuck in the loop of anticipation and then stutter and again get a new memory for anticipation . this all led to the hyper self consciousness and i even forget the flow im talking and talk word-by-word and stutter . but this realization through the video itself was amazing . ill practice these things and hopefully enjoy the talks and add value to my talks :)

When ever im speaking to someone, I have this feeling in my brain, I wouldn't call it "anticipation" but it tells me that im about to block on that word. So i'd have to switch it out with another word which can mess up with my sentence, and not allow me to say the word that i wanted to say. But after switching out the word and saying a different word, i can then say the original word. But this only happens when it comes to block, i still sometimes repeat the beginning letter of a word.

When you ask someone a question you need to focus on ist word and think of whole sentence is one word practice it and your mind will percive the whole sentence a single word now if you start with easy word then you won't stutter in the middle of sentence very good technique but one need to master it

God bless you brother. You provide so much good content for free. I’m 32 and have allowed stuttering to control nearly my whole life. Refreshing to read the comment section and relate to everything.. I am not alone. Sobriety and staying busy are additional things that help me. Love that part about focusing on others and giving them value. When we are truly present, how could we be focused on a future hang up? Curious what you think of Tony Robbin’s saying channel your inner warrior? Tony claims to fix stuttering within minutes… I’m skeptical.

Thank you for these tips, it is better than the advice I keep getting, “just talk slowly, take a deep breath then talk etc”. Those are not practical at all. I mean like tell me a way to overcome stuttering when you speak at a normal pace or fast pace.

I agree that looking confident negates: anticipation, reactions to anticipation (like feeling bothered) and doing unhelpful interventions (like avoiding or doing secondary behaviors)

The hammer tool is a great method to alleviate tension when hitting a block! SLP clinicians refer to it as the "pull-out" method, but also if anyone is reading this who has a stutter, I'd recommend looking up easy-onset and fluency shaping techniques if you haven't heard of them. They're also great for helping to facilitate more fluid speech.

You keep going back to brain this brain that, but I've had that internal struggle and learned to let it go if it was just the brain then why do most stutterers have absolute fluency when they're Alone or talking to someone they're comfortable with, what I mostly do is really just relaxation, listening to my body, when it tenses and properly breath. It's much easier.

Hello coach, i have a question. From the training workshop, at the routine A when i am supposed to read out loud, i only stutter at the over-articulation part, while at the others is way less and you can say that i don't stutter at all. The question is that, at the hammer tool i don't stutter so should i still practice it or skip it. Note: i am a fast reader so i slow down a bit.

As far as short term tools that can help, refer to the free workshop. Beyond that, I’m always going to encourage you to build a new style/pattern of speaking fluently, because when you do that, it affects everything downstream like saying your number. So whether you go the free route with my workshop and/or books, or if you invest in a program, you want to start approaching your voice like a fitness plan. Practice, stay consistent, slowly build confidence and higher levels of fluency, and then repeat this process for 6-12 months.

I also was in same situation Where my roll no was 18 I had this little fear of stucking on it but i dont , for the rest of year i was able to say my rollno. But 1 month before of my end of semester I dont know what happen I stuck on it and then just like a domino effect all my rest days get stuck , the word which i was able to all year suddenly it all started to get stuck on it What was my mistake well 2 of them 1.Fear , fear of embracement fear of getting stuck fear of everything 2. Try to be fluent , best of yourself When you dont try to be fluent or to hide your stuttering you dont stuttering.

@speakyourmindmethod
@speakyourmindmethod Жыл бұрын
Your thinking is correct in that you can’t exactly “soften” a B consonant. Tools aren’t going to work 100% of the time, hence why I call them tools, not magic fixes. The process is a combination of using tools on the surface level while building a deeper HABITUAL way of speaking smoothly underneath it all. Hope that helps!
@jg2977
@jg2977 Жыл бұрын
@@speakyourmindmethod Actually, now that I think about it, a B can be softened to a V. And another tool I’ve learned recently is light contact, and that does help too.

I stutter on my name. It happened once about 5 years ago and my brain can't let it go. My name is Raneen. All I could think about while going to the dentist, or even attending a new class is how ill mess up my isaying my name. Once someone asks my name, I lose my breath and I simply can't open my mouth. The letter R is hard, I just can't get it out of my mouth. I have my first-ever job in two days and I'm already dreading introducing myself. Do you have any tips, besides the ones on the video?

I think I'm late,but here's what I do. My name is Hasan, and I have a problem with the H. When someone asks me about my name and I feel like I'm going to stutter I tell them I didn't hear the question, so I have time to prepare for the answer, then I say( Hasan) or i put a word in front of it so it comes easier like (oh I'm Hasan) and it works most of the time. Hope you did well in that interview
