My fear is not being in the lift, but being trapped if it gets stuck. Totally different .

No way could I do it.. I have walked up and down 20 flights of stairs rather then get in a lift... it’s the thought of it getting stuck... that’s the fear...
@harrycoffeynield69416 жыл бұрын
I can't use lifts. It's the trapped feeling. If there was a hatch to escape in the roof or you could get out easily I'd go in any lift.

This video assumes that the lift won't actually get stuck. What if the lift actually does get stuck? I don't think I'd survive. I think the panic would kill me.

The important thing to remember is that panic can't ultimately kill you. If the elevator ever gets stuck, there is a button you can press to call over the intercom for help. What I find helps me when I'm in an inclosed space is if I close my eyes and visualize being in a wide open space, like a grassy plain or a cool airy mountain. Breathing techniques help, and remember; you won't actually run out of air, thats a complete myth. You'd be fine, trust me

I used to be deathly afraid of tight spaces until I became a firefighter and it traing we had to do tight space drills. I didn't want to look like a wimp so I faced my fears and every time it just kept getting easier until I was actually excited to do those drills. Now I'm able to go in all kinds of places that would normally have given me claustrophobia and have zero issues. Just by facing the anxiety and accepting it, it went away for good.

I was stuck in an Elevator Lift and there was a power loss. I tried calling everyone. Lift started but, no buttons were working. I was really having anxiety attack. I was not afraid that it will fall but i was afraid that if nobody notice it, nobody tries to open it, I dont know how much time I had to be in the elevator. Maaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnn, That was Scary. It was just 5 mins. I am pretty sure I couldnt have survived over 30 minutes. Why cant they have transparent doors?

I’m trying to overcome this fear completely, I recommend anyone who has this fear to 1st ride it with someone else ( preferably in a glass elevator to start ), and once you feel comfortable, ride solo in a glass elevator preferably bc ability to look out at things will help distract you from focusing on being trapped. After that then I would try to ride a non glass elevator with someone & then solo. Im comfortable with riding in any elevator w/ someone else but solo I do have a little anxiety but the key thing that helps me helped me completely overcome airplanes, crowds, is to train myself to focus on anything else, watch, phone, etc... I was trapped in a small bathroom w/ no way out physically w/ solid walls & doors for 20 min bc lock broke. With no phone or anything to focus on. I did panic for like 15 sec but than prayed bc I’m Christian & somehow my anxiety & fear stopped. So rely on faith if u believe in God bc I’ve been battling claustrophobia since I was a kid & the bathroom incident that happened in my adult years was the toughest battle but I made it through fine. I hope this is encouraging & I would recommend anyone dealing w/ this fear to look into Virtual Reality for therapy w/ Claustrophobia bc it’s new & is said to be helpful & cheaper

A lot of responses are saying, “I’m not afraid of getting in elevators, I’m afraid of being stuck.” I say this with all the love and respect in the world, but that is totally missing the point. That’s like saying, “I’m not afraid of getting on a plane, I’m afraid of it crashing.” The fear of the latter (highly unlikely) scenario causes you to avoid the former (very routine) thing. These kind of rationalizations sound logical, but it is not rational to avoid a routine thing because of a fear of an unlikely worst case scenario. And the way to overcome that fear is to take small steps toward it, by doing exactly the kinds of things suggested by this video. There are scientifically proven strategies for overcoming these fears. Anxiety responds more consistently to therapy than anything else in mental health. There is a version of the future where you don’t have a fear of riding in elevators, but you have to face it. Facing your fear heals your brain, avoiding fear makes it worse.

It's not the enclosed space in itself that gives me any type of anxiety, but the speed produced by the elevator whenever it goes down. If it moves upward, I have no issue at all, but I prefer taking the stairs down instead of a "gotta-go-fast" elevator.

I have cancer and must take PET scans every four months or so. I am beginning to think that I am actually becoming more anxious. They are not horrible and if I can just dial it down a little bit I think I will be ok. I find elevators uncomfortable but not unbearable right now.. this could help.

I definitely know how to increase anxiety by pushing myself and shortly after the anxious bit subsides, but I don't like particularly doing that. I mean that's what I do to force myself but it sucks and I would rather it not be a process.
