I am on the Tandem/Dexcom G6 closed loop platform. I truly believe that these closed loop systems are the best way to get back toward a normal life. Always know at a glance where your glucose levels are and headed. Can make boluses in seconds and not freak anyone out with needles. Done with carrying around those additional items-needles, pens, alcohol swab's, insulin, glucose meters, lancets and strips. I'm at the best control I have ever been in the last 53 years. I'm glad you are on board.

My nurses leave my insulin pens in my room when I am in-patient and told me they are good at room temperature for 28 days. I figured that if that protocol is considered safe for the insulin in the hospital then I can also leave my pens out at home in a 74 degree Fahrenheit apartment.

Yes, unfortunately, some people fear that they will be unlucky and their insulin will ruin quickly. It's just not true, at least in my experience.

Correct, insulin is fine under 30C for at least 30 days. It is actually NOT supposed to go back in the fridge once you start using it.

One of my fears is that AI will hack the system and kill off all the diabetics with a huge dose of insulin… I hope Omnipod takes security VERY seriously!

I used to fear the same thing. I actually wrote a whole video script about it, and then I came to the conclusion that making people fearful would only keep them from bettering their health with technology. So I never filmed it. It's a risk like many things, but I've been happy with it.

If you filled it past the minimum and it didn't beep, they will replace it for free. Keep it on hand because they will ask for the number on it.

I totally understand that irrational fear. The insulin is literally attached to my skin directly, however the settings are stored locally and refreshed on the cloud. However it can only be activated via Bluetooth and that connection must be made directly.

I’ve realized that being in automated mode can really affect your ability to maintain good numbers. I switched to manual mode and bumped up my daily basal to get things back to normal.

Help! I know I’m only on my second pod, but last night was hell. I was over 200 and hit up to 270 for six hours. It kept making me switch to manual mode. I gave correction boluses when it would let me but it wasn’t enough. I don’t feel like the “algorithm” will change enough to fix this. When this would happen while using pens I could just inject 5-7 units and go back to bed and wake up with a good level. Last night I barely slept with all the beeping and sweating. Has anyone else had similar issues and if so did it get better or did you have to do something to fix it? I’m using it in automated mode with Dexcom g6. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you.

I'm with you, BeRad. The first week was he'll for me also. I had several losses in communication, error messages, high readings, and failed pods. I was ready to give up as well. Just know it gets better. First of all, the algorithm does not start to work until after the first pod. The first pod needs 48 hours of info to start making suggestions. Even then, they are not very aggressive. Make sure you go into the settings and turn off the "reverse correction." This will keep the algorithm from fighting you on boluses.

Reverse correction is a safety feature that keeps you from over bolusing insulin. Unfortunately, if you use the omnipod 5 and want to keep your glucose between 60 and 100 it won't allow you to. It actually allows your glucose to rise to 110 by decreasing basal unless you turn off reverse correction.

Hi Rob. They do not come off frequently. In fact, I switched pods a few nights ago and like an idiot forgot to take the old one off. I walked around for half of the day with two pods on. One on each tricep, which is where I normally place them. The old one was stuck so well that I had to question which was which. I eventually heard the new one click, then scrapped off the old one. The key is to find a good flat site and clean oils off with alcohol before application.

Thanks. I'm only on pod#3, and I'm afraid to move my arm too much, or lift heavy things, because my first pod leaked when it was on my stomach. So after that, with pod #2 (also on stomach) was afraid to twist or bend too much. I did like the arm better though, with pod 3, so will try to stick with that. Do you also keep g6 on same arm? How do you rotate the location around the g6, since that lasts 10 days? Thanks again, and keep the vids coming (perhaps do one on site location, if I didn't already miss you doing one).

Great idea. Yeah I do g6 on abdomen always for the best results then just rotate arms on the pod. But I'll do a video on different locations for you

Hi Mathew, I use the Omnipod 5 with Dexcom G6 as a loop. I also connect the g6 to my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 for CGM readings.

I appreciate this video man, I’ve had my OmniPod5 sitting in the closet now for a few months. I have been on the Classic OP for over 8-years now. My issue is counting my carbs and leaving iOS for Android. Heck I even purchased an S21-Ultra just to have and use one device. I’m a former LEO and used my OmniPod during that phase of life. I really would have loved it then! Keep up the great work and your a great inspiration to Type-1s brother! 🫡
