► 7 Days to End with You Story Synopsis
7 Days to End with You is a unique puzzle novel game where you decipher the words of a language you don't understand.
Rely on your perception to interpret what each word means. The meanings you attach to the words will determine the story presented to you.
You don't know a single word in the language of this world.
Deduce the meanings of words the person before you uses to communicate with you.
Then try to understand them like a puzzle, one piece at a time.
You are free to perceive the meaning of the words you read.
The relationship between the two characters is built on the words you interpret.
And their story is also built on the words you interpret.

This is such an interesting concept, and the systems in the game feel really unique. I have to say, from the perspective of a blind person this situation the character finds themselves in is absolutely my worst nightmare - I have no idea how I’d navigate this at all 😂 I’d absolutely love to see you play more, but this was an excellent first look regardless. Thanks Welonz ^^

[spoiler. Solving the "alive" mystery] I'm pretty sure your "alive" was actually "food". These plants are food, that one plant was not. the food on the table being "alive" and the plates being for food instead of alive.

If you like language-based games, a cpl more you can check out: * Homesick : You wake up in a strange place, having forgotten how to read. Small-ish "world", but w/ puzzles. * Heaven's Vault: You're an archaeologist/linguist exploring ancient ruins. Middling-large world, lots of NPCs and choices do matter.

34:00 Wonder if that meant fresh rather than alive. Would match the flowers, the food and perhaps when you're just done cooking. Will definitely need to try this one out!

I was thinking "food" or "eating" or something, since I got the impression that the plants in that room may have been grown for cooking ingredients. That would explain why the empty plates were associated with the word as well.

This is such a cool concept! The art makes it difficult to tell what some objects are though. 😕

one thing that makes learning words this way difficult is that, atleast for those of us who can hear, we remember words we hear better than words we read so unless you are really good at shape recognition you should basically use the "where have I seen this word" option every time you click on something.

This is such a fun concept! It reminds me of the game Heaven's Vault which you might enjoy if translation games + piecing together stories is up your alley. You play an archaeologist going to different planets trying to translate text to help piece together an ancient mystery while things are also happening in the present day, and your translations might change over time depending on new information so you're constantly referring to your older translations and reevaluating it. The language system they use is heavily influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphs and Chinese characters with certain radicals and particles, and you see how smaller words get used in other words/concepts

Oh, I'll definitely have to check this one out! The basic premise of the game reminds me very much of Heaven's Vault (which I wholeheartedly recommend, especially for language nerds), though it's a bit cruder in execution. But still seems very interesting so far!
@TranForsythe
@TranForsythe Жыл бұрын
One aspect I love about Heaven's Vault is that "words" are actually pictogram-based "additive thoughts". Like... "$!", where "$" means "money" and "!" means "excitement/anger".

@@TranForsythe Yess, looking at the connections and similarities between words, using context to try and guess the rough meanings of the base symbols and then attempting to estimate a meaning of a longer word based on those smaller parts has been my favorite part of the game! I never thought I would ever enjoy trying to decipher a language that much, to be honest.

ooh I saw a part of this game's gameplay in a stream and it was a really interesting take on interpretation, mystery?, puzzle solving, and storytelling when you put the pieces together. even though the streamer I watched is Korean playing the Korean translated version of the game, it was still doable! looking forward to how you'll solve through game if you decide to continue :) though I do it will be annoying typing a lot with the Switch so I imagine you'd have to use the touchscreen a lot :')

a thought: Many words seem to make sense individually as a replace-letters thing, but they don’t work with each other. The Caesar cipher comes to mind immediately. i’ll have to look into that tomorrow

This game legit caught my attention immediately in the intro already! The game design make you feel so accomplished if you guessed a word with the correct meaning, more so than any other game could possibily do. I am definitely going to play this game on my own now From what I can tell so far in this video, I really hate to admit with my thought of this girl might be doing some secret reviving the dead kind of research behind that password hidden door inside her lab. I have a feeling whatever hidden behind that door and the research she is doing about death and cure, we must be somehow involved or related to the death disease. That could be why she is not allowing us to leave the house as we might need "treatment" or else we will die soon. I really hope it's not going to turn out to be a shady research, but more of a wholesome story later on

This was a pretty unique first look, I have never seen this kind of concept for a visual novel before ! I love those "EUREKA!" moments when a few words you translated show up later on and combine to make a semi-coherent and relevant sentence :D , like what happened to you with the "flower death" moment. I'd personally be very interested in seeing you continue this, especially knowing that you're capable of speaking (writing?) Japanese, as the devs behind this game are from Japan, and thus the ingame language uses a similar syntax. Might be a chance for Weeblonz to flex her muscles a little bit :P. The game is apparently on the shorter side, so hopefully you can pick it up without derailing what I assume is an already busy schedule of yours. Either way thank you for sharing this with us, have a lovely day Welonz

I think a good strategy, if the game allows, would be to use punctuation to communicate confidence in a given word. Say an asterisk for words you're fairly confident in the meaning and a question mark for words that you're really uncertain of. It would help convey more information and presumably encourage more spit-balling of words since there's a way to differentiate really good guesses from random assumptions.

Oh! Maybe the "book" word is followed by adjectives? The books all differ in appearance and purpose. So like... book-thick-red and book-thick-blue or book-green-many or book-write for journal?

Interesting... the words seem to be in English and each symbol corresponds to a Latin character. (for example, in the word "food" there are two same symbols in between.) Of course the developer used another cipher method other than simple substitution. The sequence of letters are probably rotated up to mod26, (I'd imagine a wheel of 26 symbols corresponding to each of the 26 letters, but you can turn the wheel in 26 different configurations) but I still don't know if they had an arbitrary method for finding the variable or they just used RNG. The method could be something else, but it's not as convoluted as Enigma. Deciphering it through brute force seems to be possible.

This is a fascinating concept! And the implementation looks to be really good! ^_^ I have my theories after seeing this video, both about the story and about the language--but let me not risk spoilers! If I may, if you liked this game, and given your stated interest in languages and translation, let me heartily recommend to you the game "Heaven's Vault". It's a lot like this game: It includes an unknown language, the translation of which forms a central mechanic of the game, and it assures the player that multiple interpretations are possible. (Although the language in its case is not ubiquitous--there's also speech conducted in a known language.) More specifically, it might be described as a game of space archaeology: The protagonist lives in a vast nebula containing multiple moons, some populated. Sailing the "rivers" between and around moons, she discovers long-lost relics, interprets the writings thereon, and in doing so discovers a grand and momentous story...

okay "flower" definitely more generic just plant and "alive" I think food, because wheat and herbs/spices and when you hit the plate had the same word I'm certain it's food. also have a feeling instead of point it's hand and when you're clicking the fire she's saying something along the lines of "don't put your hand in the fire" or just "keep your hand away from there" possibly simplified or maybe the language just uses less words and is more about context.

I understand the appeal behind these games, but I find it odd that it's generally a constructed language transposed from English. it would be fun if someone made a sign language game like this, but there are some many variations of sign language, even in English.
