I think this is a better illustration of Chomps failings than Overdrives strengths. Yeah, Overdrives pilot is too notch for sure, but he won because Chomp had basically no way to deal damage, and also sub-average mobility. If Chomp had any weapon that could target Overdrive's tires, or was fast enough to escape those charges, or was nimble enough to escape the screws, we would be looking at a judges' decision.

@@mihirtalati9960 As cool as that sounds, a weapon like that would probably do very poorly. The prongs would need to jut out a fair amount in order to make it more likely to get a grab, which would make them extremely vulnerable.

Make them open and close with a lot of force so they grab on the way in and swat away anything in front of it when opening

From what I recall, Chomp was redesigned because they were told that there would be a ferrous floor. They increased the strength of its weapon, but added toggleable magnets to its underside to keep it grounded. Unfortunately, they abandoned the ferrous floors too late for them to change Chomp back.

I think it's more for the looks and the "cool" factor. A lot of the time the crowd like seeing that, though I have seen it in good use in the fight between Complete Control vs Bombshell. It seemed to do some damage then.

fire breather isn't not a bad weapon. Those robots have wires and chips that are held together by glue. Fire can cause some nasty internal damage.

One thing I always notice is how the simple bots always win. Tombstone, Minotaur, Overdrive, etc., the bots that tend to dominate are the ones that try to put all their resources into one weapon or ability and they almost always come out on top. They keep the cars compact, almost always meaning more mobility, density, and available resources for the weapon, and then the rest is up to the skills of the driver. Chomp looked impressive and wild, but one flip was all it took to get it bodied. Fuckin love this show.

that's not a good thing. They all have the same weight limit, so a big bot just means wasted empty space inside and requires you to spread your armor thinner to protect it all. A well designed bot will take up less space and the same mass of armor will protect it better.

I was unimpressed with Overdrive. Christian Carlberg usually builds incredibly good bots. I expect the builder of Minion, Overkill and Toe-Crusher to have a better bot next season.

Bryan Starner Honestly, it was the least impressive of the Battlebots imo. I'm a fan of Minion and Dreadnought, but this wasn't the best bot to come out. It has a lifter, but it doesn't have something to keep the bot on the lifter. With just the wedge, a bot could easily slip off. Also, it looks too hard to control due to it's speed

Randall Williams The speed was great, that's what gave it the edge in this bout. But it didn't have enough traction on that steel floor. Overdrive needed to have magnets on the tires like Bite Force had on its tracks.

I mean, any time there's a spinner (like hynodisc) or a piercer (like razer) so much damage is inflicted and makes for fantastic entertainment. still glad yall back! good luck! Muzikrazy213 For 2015 Battlebots changed the rules to require an active weapon. Simple wedges *are* banned. Overdrive's front was actually a lifter, not a static wedge. They also allowed fire weapons this year, which increases the excitement for the fans. Notice how Overdrive was intimidated by Chomp's flamethrower and stayed away out of its range.

dlwatib maybe just my opinion but I always thought fire weapons were useless since most that get hit with it don't burn out because of that, they burn out from the opponent's weapon first. Feel free to give your side of it by all means though.

+dlwatib Ah, but then there the debate of what makes an active weapon. When Robot Wars introduced a similar rule way back when for series 7, it meant that one of the most popular robot, and one that was ertainly not boring, Stinger, couldn't compete, since their bludgeoning tail/axe wasnt powered, it worked by physics (flipping over and hitting opponents when the robot braked/changed direction).

I think chomp's steering mechanism needed to be tuned better, it seemed like there was a delay or something. The robot was always turning more than it should have beeen, leaving it not aligned correctly. Like, they would turn right, but then go too far, and have to correct, and end up over correcting.

Both bots are useless junk as far as damage potential goes, with one being essentially a rc car with oversized wheels & the other an unnecessarily flamboyant showpiece. the only thing they had to rely on for doing damage were traps & snares onsite.

Centorea 88 i am pretty sure chomp has an autonomous function that activates to get better hits. I don’t remember if they introduced this feature in chomp 2 or this version.
