Me too! If you're watching Mind Hunter....there's a scene in S1 where the Dennis (BTK killer) is burning papers (his sadistic drawings) in the back of his house.....this scene I believe was actually based on John Douglas in his book...John actually burned his papers being overworked and frustrated with the Bureau, being flown all over the US working cases, dealing with the Green River Killer...John had suffered a serious brain injury. John's my hero too! :)

@@silvertree2189 Yeah man, the series plays a little fast and loose with some things, but it works for what Fincher is trying to do. I believe that scene you're talking about was Fincher's nod to John's operating opinion in 1995 that the police had probably already interviewed Rader at some point after the first few murders, and didn't realize it, and so he had the presence of mind to stop for awhile. It sucks that season 3 is basically back-burnered, and I know they were having issues as far as where to go with the content after Atlanta. What I understand, the idea for season 3 so far is to split the focus between John's involvement with the Yorkshire Ripper case in England, and the time period would also put Holden and Tench on a collision course with Gary Heidnik, Rochester (Shawcross), and the Trailside case back in the U.S. Jim Barney's character is basically an amalgamation of Jim Wright and Judson Ray, and there was the whole thing where Jud Ray's wife tried to have him killed around that time so. There is a whole lot they can do. That time frame is also right around the time Bundy got busted for the first time.

And there's Robert Hansen, too. I'd say that one will definitely end up in the series.

Love your podcasts, you guys are notably humble, smart and are doing a fantastic job making we the public aware of great books and their authors!! And I love to meet the person who does not highly regard John Douglas, he is very humble about himself never trying to leave out people in law enforcement, detectives who work tirelessly to solve sometimes very difficult cases. What a blessing John Douglas is to the understanding perpetrators of horrible crimes. Thank you so much ☺️.

I loved how the police in anchorage alaska was puzzled by a serial killer killing prostitutes, and asked him for a profile and he sent them the exact profile of the killer and helped just the case wide open..they made a movie about this killer..I believe the movie was named on frozen ground..

Yep. The FBI under Hoover was a completely different machine. Hoover was the byproduct of a completely different era, and basically was what was needed in the beginning in a lot of ways, to deal with people like Capone and Dillinger, and internal corruption, but when the whole advent of the "criminal mind" as an entity started to evolve in America, people like Douglas, Ressler, Hazelwood and Haigmaier were more suited to deal with the way the society was changing. Hoover was an intolerant bigot and an epic asshole. He got a lot of shit done with his "iron fist" policies but he was a dinosaur by the late 60s.

Hoover would’ve shared some similarities in the profile of several criminals: lived with his mother until the age of 40, repressed sexuality, dressing in women’s clothes...abuse of power.
