John Douglas is definitely a living legend. We go over his and Roy Hazelwood's cases early on in my classes and the students love emulating and guessing their profiles. Out of the tragedies, we can get an deeper-understanding into the criminal minds. Both of these giants influenced current FBI members and society at large with their body of work and the support of their colleagues in their division.

I read Mindhunter when it first came out. I was fascinated and still am. There was a fair amount of jealousy from other investigatory agencies and they were quick to poo-poo the whole profiling thing as a hoax. Douglas was well aware of the irreplaceable value of gumshoe detective work and never discounted it, but some were put off by the sudden interest and success of this new approach to crime solving.

@paulparry14195 жыл бұрын
@@EdertheJust my understanding was he was convicted on two counts and this was largely due to hair and fibre evidence found on the bodies. The behavioural aspect assisted with the search and courtroom cross examination strategy but profiling was in its infancy in those days, so much so this was one of their first major cases. The case has been revisited a number of times with more DNA testing done, which failed to rule Williams out as a suspect in a larger percentage of the other cases. Interesting stuff.

@andreasjohansson2213 жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with millennials lol. It’s always been this way and it used to be infinitely worse. True crime has always been a human fascination and people used to take it way further. When Bonnie and Clyde were moved post Mortem people were ripping off pieces of bloody hair and clothing and one guy tried to cut off Clyde’s trigger finger. Countless cases like the infamous trunk murders, Albert fish, belle gunness, etc all made people go rabid and onlookers often showed up to crime scenes to gawk and bodies and steal pieces of the crime scene for memorabilia. This “trendiness” has literally been happening for centuries all across the world but sure gripe about millennials

He was a rapist and at LEAST an attempted murderer. He shot a drug dealer and left him to die and I kind of doubt that’s the only person he ever tried to kill. So even if Manson wasn’t convicted for his “Family’s” killings he would have been in prison for life had he been convicted of his numerous other crimes. The whole “Manson isn’t a killer” argument I see all over is so bizarre to me because of this. He committed countless crimes even if you don’t include the infamous spree killings.
