The Family Cottage
Abandoned House with everything left behind!!
There is not too much information available about this house or its occupants even though I was able to find some of the former occupants names. I am guessing that it has been abandoned for about 10 years, the floors and the walls are no longer straight and cracks can be seen forming in the corners of some of the rooms. The roof is in very good shape and there is no sign of water intrusion, the home does not have a basement and because of this, it is relatively small with only four main interior rooms two of which are bedrooms. The home sits in the forest and the yard is very overgrown and obviously has not been mowed in many years, it sits there awaiting its likely fait when it meets the wrecking ball.
The family left everything behind when they vacated, including family photos, a yearbook and a baby book from the 50s. There are old VHS tapes in a cupboard, numerous board games, a rod hockey game and even lots of clothes left over. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and there is even some food leftover, including inside the refrigerator. In a few of the comparison images from 2018 compared to 2021, you can see that some items have gone missing during that period of time, it's a typical story that repeats itself time and time again despite being completely disrespectful to the owners. Fortunately there is no real vandalism other than items being strewn about and rummaged through.

I'll bet some wonderful summers were spent in this little place! Probably got used on weekends during the cold weather, so it must have been winterized to some degree. That was likely a composting toilet. This reminds me of our friend's cottage, in the family for 70 years, all the old games are still around and get used surprisingly often. When we go up there, we tend to avoid internet and television. Movies are VHS and DVD, no cable. It's like a different world, isn't it? The wee needlepoint birds were beautifully made. Someone put a lot of love into them at the time they were stitched. Odd how everything got left behind. That would be a whole story in itself, if we only knew it! Lighting was just fine. Loving the bloopers 😊 Cheers James! Marian 🇨🇦

Yes, it does appear as thought it was used all year round at least part of the time anyway! I still think it could have been a house though too. I thought it may have been a composting toilet but it seemed too small for that. It's definitely a different world, kind of like stepping back in time before the internet! It's a good thing because it forces more social interaction. Thanks for watching and your comment!!

I believe this was actually a families permanent home. If this family had enough money to have a home and a summer home, I would think they could afford a flushing toilet. I believe this was a lower income family who believed in family time. They were animal lovers. And basically did the best they could with what they had.

The thing is, i can't imagine using a toilet like that day in and day out, also if you have a working shower, why not hook up a toilet too?

Hi, James!! We love the toy chest. Thinking the house probably looked like that when they lived there. So many people don’t clean or organize. Found that out in our sorority house. Pretty weird taste in decorating ! We loved it and seeing you ! Thank you, James ! Love from the Ft Worth Smith twins

I would be surprised if it looked that way when they lived there, it looks to me like someone was likely rummaging through their belongings. I think they were likely very organized seeing those blue Rubbermaid containers and still having a lot of stuff in the closets. They probably just had a lot of stuff in a very small space. Glad you two enjoyed it and thanks for the comment!!

I really did enjoy this “static space” . Some take aways from this space are: the tiny bathroom really was small, I don’t know who put a roll of paper towels in the FREEZER but I thought that it was kind of funny to see😁. I also did like the ker plunk game that you found as well. I have that game too and still enjoy playing it today even though the game is quite dated. It’s always fun to see who will get ALL the marbles in that game😁. This was a good explore and l👀king to see you in the next “STATIC SPACE”👍🏻.

I wonder if that huge pot with the spout was for boiling drinking water. It's strange how much stuff was there for a cottage. I feel like cottages don't have that much stuff on the walls. As a result, while I was watching, I kept flipping back and forth in my mind as to whether it was a cottage or a full time house. Very cool find. Thanks for the video!

Thanks a lot for the comment!! I agree, I'm still not sure if it was a part time résidence or a full on house but i can't imagine having to use that toilet on a daily basis!! It was a small space so that could also explain why there was so much stuff but also a lot of fire wood for the winter, so it's very hard to know for sure.

At one time someone's little get-away spot for peace and relaxation. Has anyone else noticed that every clock has stopped at a different time? Those metal T.V. trays! I haven't seen those since the early 60's. In a place like that I'd watch for Copperheads and other snakes. I noticed that big seafood boiling pot in the kitchen and it's very much like the one I had before Katrina, but mine had the date "1940" impressed into the metal. I think "athackful's" comment was right about being used for drinking water. It looks like they removed the original spigot and replaced it with the lever style. I think it was used for water.
@StaticSpaces

Some very good observations there. I think the clocks were stopped at different times because they were probably battery powered. This is in Canada fortunately so i generally don't worry too much about poisonous snakes. Thanks for your comments!!

Seeing the Care Bear sheets on the child's bed indicates to me this pad was abandoned sometimes in the 80's. Perhaps in the 90's (only because sheets can last awhile). I feel this was a lower income family who resided there year round. Were very family oriented seeing all the games and movies. Of which, was used as entertainment rather than going out. I love how the animals on the walls, the fish, the ducks were not taxidermy. Obviously, animal lovers. This home may not be filled with what could be considered as antiques, per say. However, it has quit a few vintage items that could bring a fair amount of money at an auction. I love old lower to middle class houses such as this one. So, many items I saw that brought back many groovy memories of the past. Don't worry about the long videos. I very much dislike the explorers who rush through their explores just to get the video out and to rush on to the next destination. It's the quality, not the quantity in my opinion. But, apparently not in the opinion of Explorers with 10 minute videos. Such a shame to miss out on so much because the explorers are in a rush to tape their next abandoned destination which is one of many reasons I really enjoy watching many of your videos. I just found you last week I subscribed, liked, your content. And now watch your videos often. Thank you Only gripe I would have to whine about would be the explorers who walk over family photos. Pick them up. Make the time. And then, leaving the windows and doors opened which were already opened to just further destroy a families palace. When it is very obvious for whatever purpose the family is no longer capable to care for their pad on their own. In most instances, I would assume, anyways. OK, long enough. Thank you for sharing. Great video!!! On to the next one!!!

Each one of these places gets abandoned for different reasons but these places with everything left behind are few and far between. It looks to me like a poor little family was living there and someone snitched off the children's protective services and they had to go live with family in order to keep their children. They may come back now and then to get stuff and may have plans to rehab it because children's services won't let them take the kids back to live in that and people just keep coming in and out of it while they're having to live somewhere else. Sad.

What this place makes me think of is Grandpa's vacation house in the woods. My dad had one where he would go a couple times a month every month to go fishing and be with nature and he would take my kids sometimes to when they were little. They are in their 20's now. When he died a year ago he left the house to my son and brother and they struggled mentally with letting it go because dad loved it so much but they did not live near it and would not be using it . Maybe this family also had a hard time selling it for those reasons also. That would explain the older stuff and 1990's kids stuff and newer items. My family sold my dad's cabin because he loved it so much we hated to see it fall into disrepair from noone visiting or enjoying it like this place here.

Finally got around to watch this. A very sad explore. Is this off a major highway. I heard of alot of road noise in the video. That tabletop hockey is in bad shape, the hubby and I are currently looking for one. Weren’t you afraid of any bedbugs when you were “sleeping” on that couch. That wall chime is cool. Close up toothpaste that stuff so good. Leaves a great taste. This place is a time capsule for sure. Another great explore. P.S. not a fan of Star Wars either

These sorts of locations are always a bit saddening but they are also the most interesting. Ya that road hockey game was covered in poop along with many other things in that house. Lol Well i haven't had an issue with bed bugs so far but maybe i have been lucky until now! Honestly, i didn't even think of that when I was doing the intro. Thanks Kimmy!!

When the first Star Wars movie came out I was in Vancouver with my grandparents and my 12 year old cousin. We wanted to walk to the theater to watch it but my grandparents said no. (We were probably a couple thousand miles from home.) By the time we got back home it wasn’t in the theaters anymore and this was before dvds and even VCRs so I never saw it. I guess I could’ve seen it later but by then I didn’t really care. 😂
