Have never had any problems with PlayStation Consoles since 1997. Is good to see what happens when it overheats. I have installed a 4TB for my PS4 Pro and have never had issues of overheating, they are really build good with Air Cool.

I made a rookie mistake with my PS4. It's a Sony refurbished launch console with a 2TB drive installed. It started running hot and the fan started getting louder about three years into owning it. Took it apart. Thermal paste was dried out. Applied some new paste...and then it actually overheated. So I take it back apart. Turns out the dry thermal paste was half the issue. The the cooling fins were clogged with dust. Near as I can figure enough heat was bleeding out around the old paste that the fan was just clearing it passively (as in not through the heat sink). When I replaced the paste all the heat was being transferred to the heat sink as it should be. But the sink was clogged. So it actually built up more heat internally than it did with the old dried paste. After I cleaned the heat sink out, system fan quieted down significantly and the system has been running like a champ since then.

I cleaned my PS4 after it was overheating, and used one of your videos and went step by step with you... everything works great now, so great infact, that I thought the fan wasn’t connected because it was so quiet.... I have the tuxedo black first edition... the light blinks red when it overheated... i got it used, and it sounded like an airplane since day one... it sounds silent now... dead silent... I redid the thermal paste, I even had a little wire and a rag and cleaned the fins of the heat sink... I think it’s better than a new one. Lol.

I opened mine up after for the first time in 5 years and was pleased to see barely any dust inside. Im not tech savvy so I just quickly cleaned the fan of the little dust it had and the surrounding areas and called it day. I keep it on a shelf but with plenty of space to breathe, always laid flat.

My 2013 PS4 was getting so loud playing red dead 2 that I thought it was going to burst into flames at any moment. Nice to know it was just having to overcompensate for the dust inside and wasn't in danger of actual failure. I already took it apart a little bit just by removing the power supply and cleaning the fan and the accessible parts of the heatsink and that worked really well and its pretty quiet now. I can tell I've watched too much tronicsfix because I now want to strip it down completely even though I have no need to!

love how people that play consoles are somehow surprised about this... im surprised the console doesn't try throttling first, reduce speed of hardware as gets hotter and hotter.. may make game play more choppy and less playable but its common way PC hardware handles thermals.. if temp curves too steep just reduce clock speeds of GPU and CPU, if that fails to keep temps under control and gets too hot then shut down.. i do wish more PCs told you when temps are too high.. but its incredibly rare it would ever need to thanks to layers of other protections, just nice add on feature should be considered.

I've overheated my PS4 twice this year, the second time was about two weeks ago. How did this happen? I left my console on for three days straight, whilst playing online games during the day and watching NETFLIX at night. My console is positioned in a well vented area and I often have my fan on and my door wide open but that did not stop it from overheating. I turned it all off for about an hour and turned it back on, I heard the start up sound but my screen, there was no picture. Eventually the picture came back the same day, or if it's your first time overheating the console then it will be fine the next day. Moral of the story, don't disable the sleep timer on your console, even if the room is well ventilated. Thanks 👍

I think you missed the point with this one. People who claim their PS4 is overheating are simply concerned when their console sounds like a jet engine. Now technically the console is still within operating limits, but the temperature is high enough to where the fan has to work overtime to keep the console cooled. This is worth being concerned about and may mean that the console needs a good clean out or the re application of thermal paste. Overheating is the simple term for this, even though the console hasn't reached its thermal maximum it's still getting hotter than it should.

I got an original PS4 from my neighbor for free (She has tenants and sometimes they leave stuff behind) It was disgusting, but i took it apart and cleaned it up best i could. Even after that it was running hot and the fan was really loud, I've never had a PS4 before so i didn't know if it was normal or not. Thanks to this video i now know! I've tryed stress testing my og xbox One and it takes forever to shut off, it's almost like there is no need for a fan because it does so much thermal throttling to handle it, I've done it also on my one s and it didn't take as long for it to shut down😂🤔👌 (probability cuss it is much tighter inside the the og one I'm guessing🤔😂

can I have issues overheating by putting my xbox one x on top of my ps4 pro (I never have both on at the same time)

Lol I'm out of shelf space as well and don't want to stack cause the amount of heat they make. If you do it anyway put the pro on top cause the xb1x exhausts vents are on the bottom and the pro on the top.

If you play your PS4 while the xbone is on top then that may be your problem. I always have my consoles with a little bottle cap at the back. Idk of its just me but I never faced overheating before.

@TronicsFix - Have you seen this issue on the original fat PS4 where it doesn't say overheating? As in it just shuts off then takes forever to reboot and randomly turns off at any time after that? Also, the fan got incredibly loud as well... I ask this because I just purchased a PS4 CUH-1001A I think it is. Opened it up, cleaned out a crapload of dust, removed the crusty old thermal paste, applied some Arctic Silver thermalpaste, added 1 metal washer to each side of the clamp for the APU. Haven't had a problem with it turning off randomly since and it boots quickly every time now. Would you consider this likely to continue working for quite awhile now? If so then that's a good score for $60 CAD

I took apart my my Playstation because it was super loud. My heat sync literally had a wall of dust and dirt built up. After cleaning and putting it bad together. The noise was no longer loud.

Did you take the metal plate off from under the motherboard and clean the heat sink? And yes, be sure the fan is spinning as it should.

Don't forget new themal pads an paste I always replace when I open mines for cleaning.
