The Apache can be stacked and locked together with the ribs on top to the round foots on the bottom, making them unable to slide... that is a nice feature
@russellwood87503 жыл бұрын
Nice way to mount the case I would add one additional thing I would put too short flat bars. The flat bars would support and brace it to your roof rack significantly more. When you put more and more recovery gear into your case and it gets heavier and you break real hard the only thing anchoring it will be those four little bolts and there’s a good chance it will rip straight off the plastic and you will watch your case fly off your rack like a missile. If you’re lucky it will be just a damaged case if you’re unlucky someone could get hurt. Two flat bars under 10 bucks peace of mind. Just my recommendation brother.

I got 2 Apache cases on sale for 99 each. Seems very solid. Keep in mind, Pelican Protector cases have a lifetime warranty. I have 2 -1750 cases that were purchased in 2006. The wheels on one finally disintegrated. Pelican is sending me a free replacement set of wheels at no charge. Those wheels are 40$ otherwise. The Pelican Vault cases only have a 3 year warranty.

Great review! I made the same choice. There was a 50% off Apache cases so it dropped to $85 for one day. That sealed it for me! 😂

I'm the original owner of a '95 4WD Suburban that I use for camping and photography outings. I purchased two Apache cases during the recent HF July 4th sale for $50 off each...think the price was $119 per case. I was surprised at the weight...very stout. Haven't mounted them yet since I'm building a roof rack from scratch...when your vehicle is this old, finding anything aftermarket is an exercise in futility. Gonna be interesting to see how they hold up in the Texas sun. ROAM cases were out of the question...came down to Pelican or Apache for me. I plan to remove the wheels since they really won't be needed anyway. Also plan to use a 1" wide x 1/8" thick aluminum bar to mount inside the case at each pair of mounting bolts to provide some strength in case of hard braking...don't want the plastic to absorb the force.

Measure the thickness where you did, on the top lip, then on the other end of your calipers there is a rod that sticks out as you extend the measurement, you can use that to get a depth from that lip to the inner wall from both sides,you can use the measurement from the lip edge to the wall on both sides to get the wall thickness by subtracting those two thicknesses from the lip width.

I had a tan Pelican 1720 and the top lid was a little warped probably because it didn’t have the ridges in the molding on the Pelican. Maybe the molding cured with the warp. I could tell because I had to push down on one corner to snap the latch on. The going price right now at the time of my post for the 1750 is $320. I also bought the Apache with a 20% coupon code.

I have 2 of those Apache cases on the roof of my XJ (sold in Australia by Supercheap Autos) and they have been great for the price. The only thing I don’t like is that it has the wheels. Also gotta give the Pelican has lifetime warranty on these cases. The Harbour Freight is 90 days warranty from it's website is stated. Yeah, wait until all of you cheapskates drive through a rain storm with those Chi-Com Apache cases. They will be soaked inside, ruining all of your sensitive gear. There's a reason why the Pelicans are expensive, because it takes a lot of careful construction and higher quality material to make something truly waterproof day in and day out.
@AdventureBuilt7 ай бұрын
I have had these cheap cases on my rig for a couple years now and no problems with leaking. I don’t think a submersion test for a case that is going onto my truck is practical. If that case ever submerges on my truck I’ll be sure to let you know.
