I got the OTT tune on my 22 TRD Sport a couple of months ago. I have been really enjoying how much better the truck drives since getting it installed. The biggest improvement that I noticed however is in how my truck tows. I have a nuCamp T@b 320 that I bought new in December of last year. The Taco did a pretty good job in towing before the tune but the gear hunting was a pain. This past weekend I took the trailer from North Carolina up to a T@b get together in Pennsylvania and OMG!! The truck drove so much better! It was a huge difference. The sustained climbing was so much better. I had the transmission in S4 and had the ECT on (the next OTT setting from mild). It honestly made me so happy. I did get about 3 MPG's better than usual but I also tried using 89 octane fuel as well. Hard to say which made the difference more.

Paul did my OTT a little over two years ago on my manual 2019 TRD Off-road and it's by far worth the price ($500.) The difference is stunning especially when towing our 4,000lbs travel trailer. The gas mileage is 1 to 1.5 gallons better than stock however there's no difference in mileage when not towing. The power and feel difference is incredible and going up those long uphill grades without struggling brings a great big smile to my face. A big shout out to you for helping me feel better about getting it done. Thank you!

Hey Chloe, I have had mine for a year now. In Tennessee, we have Big Dog Tuners who are licensed to perform this tune. I have to admit that I was a bit scared of this process but after it was done I was so amazed at how my Taco reacted to it. Fixed everything. Now ECT is the spicey tune and it is what I use off road. The normal mode is medium. Thanks!😊

Now knowing about the emissions certification, this makes me feel better and more open to the idea of getting a tune. But, I already re geared so it may not be worth it. Though, I've heard people having both the 5.29 re gear along with the tune speak majestically about it. Nice review overall. I'd like to see more reviews comparing re gear vs. tuning, or combination, and how it interacts with using the truck to tow and not just regular daily driving. That's mostly what I use my Taco for nowadays...

I hear you on the low power performance , In Dec of 2009 I traded my 2003 sierra denali in for a 2010 Tacoma trd sport , it was like getting off a Gsxr 1000 and onto a moped , after 14 years and 75,000 miles I’m used to it now but if my 2nd gen had the obnoxious gear hunting I’d definately get the tune , when the dealer had my truck a few years back to do the frame swap they gave me a 2017 Tacoma as a loaner and the gear hunting drove me nuts , I’m currently trying to talk my friend who just bought a 3rd gen into getting the tune,.. thanks for the review Chloe !

I got Overland Torque Tune on my personal 2023 Tacoma TRD OR today, and I luv it! It is 6 spd manual transmission, and set it on Spicy. First it was set on Super Spicy, but it throttle was too sensitive, so had it turned down one level.☺

Got mine done back in the spring. Noticed a difference with throttle response and shifting, but not mind-blowing like people make it out to be. They need to come down on their price tho, shouldn't be around $400 especially when you have to possibly drive 4 hours to get anything done and you're on the "tuners" time and not yours. I think its a slight placebo effect and hyped up to justify to themselves for spending so much on a flash tune. They need to partner up with someone like ezlynk or a reasonably priced hand held like what Banks has thats updatable to provide 24/7 support, and it would be more justifiable to charge $400.

The last I checked, the tunes were anywhere from $400 to $450 in Arizona. The two I talked to were set on price, non negotiable, therefore I didn't get it done yet. Still deciding if it's really worth that much money.

I got the overland torque tune done for 495$ yes I understand it is a big amount of change but yess it is indeed worth every penny because the tune gives u more power and slight better mpg and shifting it is a night and day difference and to make it worth the money even more u drive the truck every day I was first skeptical at first trust me I was shaking like a leaf but I saw a lot of videos of and said fuck it I’ll take the chance it’s worth every penny just glad it’s not more money than 500$

@@elipymentGG you need to contact a Tuner to upload the tune to your vehicle's ECU. There's a "base tune", but they should customize and tweak it based on your current mods and goals, and a good Tuner will provide free updates if your setup changes. If you never change your vehicle or the way you drive, you should be good with a one time upload.

I am pleased with the performance of my '21 TRD Sport after the OTT tune. I have the Light throttle. I have recently decided that I will be taking it easy on the throttle, especially after seeing the tachometer go well into red territory. That has to be hard on the main bearings and wrist pins. I will definitely stick to 5,000 mile oil change intervals. Does the tune affect fuel economy? Depends on how heavy your foot is...the temptation to get frisky is more readily available.

I just got my OTT tune on my 2020 manual Tacoma. I defiantly feel the power, with 6th usefully again, but you will defiantly notice that dam clutch accumulator getting in the way. If you know how to drive manual then I would recommend the tune and deleting the clutch accumulator to get the raw feel and power

Thank you Chloe for all of the information about the OTT. My tune (Medium/Spicy) was like installing a new transmission. After I test drove my truck, I told my tuner it drives "normal" now. Whether it is a 0-45mph normal take off, highway driving, and radar adaptive cruise control, the truck goes with no gear hunting and holds gear on inclines. Throttle response took some getting use to but you will be happy with the overall improvement. Shout out and thanks to Jeff Tillery, Relentless Tuning (Randolph, AL) for installation and answering a ton of questions.

I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport premium (manual transmission) and I have thought about a tune and have done some reading on the subject. I have come to the conclusion to avoid it until my 7 year power train warranty is up. If the engine blows and Toyota decides to investigate the cause closely and I have a 3rd party tune , I believe it would be there prerogative to void the warranty. Despite what most people say , Toyota can determine (using something similar to a CRC (Circular Redundancy Check)) if a tune was applied. I would only get in under warranty if tuner companies , such as OTT , had a partnership or agreement with Toyota. If they were only flashing preset constants , then fine , but they are changing the underlying algorithms that control the operation of the vehicle. If they are charging 600 in the US , then it would be approx. 800 or more here it Canada , a bit steep for my wallet.

38-40k truck and doing a $500 flash that completely makes the truck actually driveable.... It was a cheap price of entry if you ask me! For your issue with warrnty... I don't know how toyta will tell if you flash back to OEM. My guy advised you can flash back TO OEM if/when needed. No way in hell am I ever going back! Going with a manual you avoided 98% of the issues us auto guys have. However the amount of response you will get from it will make you happy you didt

Fuel economy, how does that affect it, I know your truck is modified so it is down from the factory numbers. The factory tune is designed to get a certain fuel number, that is why it is trying to down shift, also extra wear and tear on transmission when it holds shifts in lower gears longer?

@@amauryevra8683in my experience if you’re looking for fuel economy with this tune it doesn’t improve it. Holding gears longer is not gonna have much of an effect on gears. It may cause the engine to work a little harder since you’re revving the rpm’s a little higher but imo it’s nothing to worry about.. change your oil every 5k-7500 miles then it shouldn’t be anything it can’t handle nor be anything worth worrying about. I’m now at 193k miles on my 2017 trd sport that I purchased new and have had the tune since 118k miles and have had zero issues. I do however do my own maintenance and tend to change every service interval at the severe driving intervals. Pcv valve, oil, atf, gear oil, air filter, etc

To be honest i completely forgot how a stock tacoma performs. Got used to my truck with the ott tune (which is a good thing.) Back when i was stock id complain ever time I drove my truck on how bad the gear hunting was and how underpowered the throttle felt.

I got mine done, still likes to downshift when you give it a little more then 30-40%. Starting to think my tranny is low on fluid or something. The vast majority are saying the hunting is 100% or majority gone. Not mine still will downshift on cruise control on a incline.

Check to see if all 6 spark plugs are tight. The factory left one of my finger tight and that coil got covered with blow by.😮😮

My truck is a 21 and I know your truck is a little older than mine. I wonder if Toyota changed the mapping in the software on the newer trucks because mine does not hunt gears aggressively. If I hit a hill, it may shift one gear down but it will hold that until I get to the top of the hill, just like most vehicles will. Also, newer models that I have driven seem just fine.

I had mines tuned a couple of months ago. Gas pedal seems to get a little sticky on cold start. Drives the same just cold starts. Let me know if experience the same problem.

To answer your question yes it does while tuned. While tuned your checksum can be checked and it will not report to stock. I checked with obd9 on a friends tune truck and is why I stayed stock. As mentioned in this video if the checksum doesn't report stock or a CARB approved tune you will fail smog in some states. Ppl in Colorado have failed smog for this reason since they're checking the checksum in CO and other states like CA. Thus, I assure you Toyota will check this if you have a major drivetrain claim. Now if you flash back to stock you should report back to a stock checksum and probably sneak through, but I don't have the dough to risk it.
