A lot of people feel Detroit is the big problem . I live Arizona , grew up in Detroit . People tried to break in while I was here .Chinese are buying up property - starting up in Seattle and North Calif .Sweeping it's way down and coming toward Arizona - high home prices .Home repairs and utilities with labour are steep here . More Cali plates here now due to floods and fires and high home prices and rents in Calif .A lot of them already moved to Texas and Atlanta . Only so many can go that route . Once I get repairs completed and things like home repairs done - hopefully I would like to move back to Detroit .I know my home here will definitely sell , so that's good .

Hey! I'm currently homeless and trying to figure out permanent housing for me and my family. I've considered buying untended an untended house in Detroit before, but didn't know how I'd be able to cover the costs of rehabbing a place. So many of the cheap houses appeared to be in such devastating disrepair. I hope it's ok to ask some questions. Was the house featured in this video decent enough to immediately move into? How much were the back bills to pay off? Is it possible for someone on a fixed income, like me, to manage fixing up an untended house in Detroit? How am I able to figure out if a property is too far into disrepair for me to even handle it? I'm willing to do the work - I just need to make sure my family is safe. If it were just me, I could be more flexible. I'm not sure where we're going to land, but I'm open to less traditional ways to make sure we have a safe, stable home instead of where we currently are.
@pinkyjones7398 Жыл бұрын
@Danielle Balouise If you're hoping to get a house as cheap as I did I'm not gonna hold you up. Those times are gone. The gentry have come and there are very few houses for as cheap as mine was anymore. That being said. Wayne County which is where Detroit is located holds their tax auctions every September and that's how I got mine. There is also a land bank in the city. You can buy cheap houses there all year round. The only way to know what a house needs is to physically see it. It requires foot work. Good boots safety glasses and maybe a hard hat. Move in ready is subjective. My home had no wiring plumbing or heat when I moved in. I still have no hot water.
@daniellebalouise9596 Жыл бұрын
@@pinkyjones7398 Gutted. 😭I'm glad for you and your family though. I came across a land bank in NYS, but they require proof of funds to rehab it, and I don't have that kind of dev money. Back during the financial crisis houses like these were being sold to developers for pennies. I remember looking at retail listings back in 1999 and 2000, you could buy properties in Detroit and Pontiac for a couple hundred dollars, as she stated the utilities come in with the tax price. Some of the tax listings would be close to five grand. I remember looking to buy and I was shown a few houses that I could have bought included all utilities paid for under sixteen hundred, problem is... the areas were extremely run down and there would be rows of houses next to these with boarded up windows or businesses that were in such a dilapidated state that only bulldozing them would remove the eyesore. What they don't tell you about these housing projects is that you can buy them but if the state zoning commission wants to turn this area into a shopping district they can give you foreclosure notices and try to force you off the property. -I hope Pinky has made that a home and now five years later is doing well.

I don't know about DTE (which is the main utility company for Detroit & surrounding areas), but Consumer's Energy (utility company that covers the rest of Michigan & surrounding areas that DTE doesn't cover) has stipulations where utilities CANNOT be turned off in the winter... after a 70 year man died about 5-6 years ago because he COULDN'T afford his bill. This was instituted by the last governor, Governor Granholm. I do know for a fact that both utility companies have payment plan programs. I appreciate Pinky paying cash for her house! I hope that she will find resources that will rehab her whole house through grants. A house is better than no house, but you also don't want a house that has lead windows, a basement full of mold, or a foundation caving in... which is common in Michigan. Linking up with those type of agencies have appraisers that can assess these properties before you make a big investment like purchasing a house... No shade ijs

Hate solves nothing! All of us are here to work together and help each other.If we can keep families together to guide children; this will solve many problems. They seem like a very nice family and I would be happy to have dinner with them. The city is no help; we need to give some tax breaks so companies can move industry back into the city, which will create jobs.

You don't need utilities to hear a home,off the grid heat works well in this situation,propane powered heaters.

usually in a city auction all the debt is wiped off of the property. At least in Philadelphia it is. I wish them well. She seems happy with the purchase.

In the UK it's illegal for utilities company to leave you with out power or water. These are basic needs how do you live with no water! I can understand power but not water. I hope she has everything sorted out now I'm sure her and her family will be happy and should could make some coin from the flat upstairs.

+Overlander.tv Are homes for sale, still that affordable?
@FerrariTeddy8 жыл бұрын
+mikeworld39 yep, but she got a pretty good deal, usualy houses at that price are completely stripped of anything of value (copper plumbing, aluminum siding, furnace, anything they can sell at a scrap yard) and are not far from beimg condemned. this house is actualy in pretty good shape. but before you think about moving to detroit, remember its a ghost town filled with poverty and crime, and you will probably at some point become the victim of crime (theres like a 1/7 chance in some neighborhoods, and being new and especially if youre not black, as a lot of detroit is upwards of 95% black, not that thats a bad thing but being the 5% minority makes you a bigger target)
@mikeworld398 жыл бұрын
ferrariteddy I was thinking if these houses are this cheap why not get with a group of friends and buy a whole section or block; you could fix that part of the neighborhood and quadruple your profits?
@FerrariTeddy8 жыл бұрын
+mikeworld39 it would cost too much, and you would have to gate off the whole place and hire guards to get people to pay rent high enough to break even on the property tax. (even though its a 500$ house, the gov will make you pay over 2k a year in property tax, its insanely high)
@FerrariTeddy8 жыл бұрын
+mikeworld39 until detroit changes its fundamental structure and somehow rids government curruption, it will forever be doomed, except for farmland but it will never be the same.

Do you know how many people wish and dream to have a house that they can call it HOME? A lot of people take things for granted and she’s very proud to say this is my home and to give their family stability. No matter where you live even if it’s in a poor neighborhood that’s not going to define you instead is what you make out of the situation. Not because is a bad area that’s means those are not decent and good people. Congratulations!

Anthony Francis Stop talking shit. Nobody in the UK starves or sleeps rough if they don't want to, even if they flat out refuse to work. Do you think you deserve a mansion on the taxpayer just because you exist?
@zorroalphonso43546 жыл бұрын
Wishful thinking. Get homeless to get a taste of your "government"'s support. There are so many people abandoned by the British régime, which hardly takes time off its foreign rampage to look at local social problems. A quater of a million are homeless in Britain, with at least 10% sleeping rough at any one time!
