Great Video! Laughing at the irony of having issues with the two Toyotas and not a single issue reported on the Ford. That’s very funny especially in a South African 4x4 comunity context!

NWR are terrible! My wife and I have done 2, one month trips around Namibia, mostly camping at NWR. The worst customer service we recieved was at Namutoni, Estosha. As for Nambia being hard on vehicles... this can be very true. But, our first trip to Namibia we had no problems at all. The second trip we we broke a shock mount, could'nt get it repaired in Namibia we "limped" for 2 days to Springbok to have it repaired. Wild adventure!
@GetOutGO

It’s a real pity about NWR, common theme nowadays unfortunately though. Yup, if it’s adventure you’re after this place definitely delivers!

Good ol Afrika.. Run down, expensive and then the attitude you get at many places. We visited SA from Canada for 2 months in 2022. Traveled all over as we have in the past.. not sure that we’ll be going back ever. The steep decline is evident and frustrating. That being said. You guys handle it well and I enjoy following along, keep up the great work guys! Safe travels!

I am stunned we did a similar camping trip in Etosha in 2017 and the campsites and roads were pristine can only think that covid took its toll but no excuse.NWR pull out your finger

It’s a pity to hear your experience with the NWR staff, generally they don’t have great customer service despite having some of the best spots in the parks. Thank you for visiting our country and contributing financially and also by sharing your stories with the world.
@GetOutGO
@GetOutGO Жыл бұрын
I did report all of this to NWR at the time but they didn’t seem interested. I don’t like to share negative reviews but if you take the amount of international visitors Etosha receives and that they are charged N$500+ pppd just for camping (excl. park fees), I don’t think this is acceptable.
@maxlodewyk_na
@maxlodewyk_na Жыл бұрын
@@GetOutGO totally understood Chris. Even as locals, we tend to stay away from NWR just because they do not care about their facilities and customer service at all. I just hope this won’t put you off from visiting us again.

This was a great video Christoff! Namibia is great! We did a similar trip in 2014 (wow, almost 10 years ago.) and NWR were all terrible. Okaukuejo, in the state you saw it was 5 star compared to Namatomi that time. It was disgusting. What a lot of people do is they go stay at Gondwana Collection's Etosha Safari Camp. Might be worth looking at that next time you go. But to be honest, if I want to see arid area wildlife I would much rather go to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Thank you! Some of the bush camps we camped at in Namibia were great and I would recommend those to people but definitely not NWR as it stands at the moment.

@@GetOutGO Agreed! Ai-Ais in the south was the absolute worst! We did Gondwana Collection with the discount card. That was an absolute win for most of Namibia. Where to next?

Thanks Christoff for sharing all of your adventures on such an epic trip! The campsite reviews are great pieces of information. I've been considering getting a 4x4 for a while now so that I can get to places I've never been able to see. I'm starting to think that maybe a manual Fortuner d4d like yours might be a good option for me as it would meet my daily driver, space and reliability needs. Just wondering if you think they are still a good used option now in 2023 and what year/mileage would you look for if you went for one now?
@GetOutGO
@GetOutGO Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You can still find reasonable d4d’s. Over 200k they sometimes need new injectors but otherwise they’re good for 500k km 😉

Hi Chrisof. Top content as usual and really tastefully done. I have exactly the same Fortuner like you have. Had it for 5 years now. Only on 90k on odo. Busy with a few mods of my own. I think the d4d is somewhat bulletproof apart from my stock suspension. It's very unsettled on rough stuff or slightly bumpy roads. Too much steering feel as well. Any tips on the suspension perhaps

Hi Chris. Great episode. Is there extra costs involved when organizing fuel through Collin at Puros?
@GetOutGO
@GetOutGO Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Collin or Manchester United trading post in Puros charges around N$30/l so it is quite a bit more than what you would pay at the pump. I couldn’t get hold of Collin last month either so not sure if he is still operating or not.

overlanding and tourism is destroying that place, they dont have the resources to keep things clean and protect the environment not for me
@braamsnyman
@braamsnyman Жыл бұрын
I would think that over-landing and tourism would be the source of their revenue to provide resources for upkeep and maintenance. Badly maintained facilities = less tourism = less revenue = less money to protect the environment.
