I’ve got an 88 XJ that mildly built that I use to get me into some good gold prospecting areas. Mine has a 3.5 inch lift, 33’s, 8.8 ford in the rear, D30 with chrome moly axles, front disconnect deleted and locking hubs installed, electric lockers front and back and a 4.6 stroker under the hood. XJ’s are a great little platform.

The Barney Riley trail when the Angry Camper did it in his Mega Tundra was just about the hardest/worst conditions that it ever gets.

Proof trails don't have to be super gnarly to be fun. I enjoyed the episode very much! Thanks for posting...

You ran it backward. I’ve watched to the point you are playing at Lions Back. I’m curious how you get up a couple of the steep hills.

That is what is so nice about the Sierras this time of year. 20/30/50 degrees cooler up in the mountains than down in the Valley. It has been a hot summer so far. I was up in the Plumas Ntl forest this year back in June. An hour north of Truckee. Just into Gold Lake/solo to camp and fish for a couple of days.

Are you planning on running the Dusy Ershim trail? That would be a good chance to make a great video.

Vas, great content as always. As TJ owners we’ve considered getting an XJ also, for better cargo room and the 4 doors. How has maintenance been on everyone’s XJ’s? We had a 1992 XJ a long time ago and overall it was fine, reliability-wise, but how about nowadays? Xj’s with high miles, reasonable to maintain? Do y’all drive to the trailhead or trailer? Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work - Brian

Thank you for watching Brian, most of our XJ’s had extensive work done on them for capability axles lockers wheels and tires. But mechanically, it’s a different story. Most of us bought our jeeps for dirt cheap because they had mechanical problems white Jeep. I replaced a few motors on it because they were junk now I have a great fresh new motor in it and it’s been perfect for very long time coming up on two years where I did not do anything, except replace few sensors here and there. Black one we built a new motor for it and it’s been great ever cents coming up on two years. So after you fix the major problems with these, they tend to run no problem. We still run OEM transmissions, and transfer cases. Red one we did all the upgrades to the axles wheels and suspension, but it does have motor problems where it runs at low oil pressure and it takes a bunch of coolant so we are getting ready to replace some motor on it as well. With all these jeeps being over 200,000 miles they do have some problems, but if you are not afraid of replacing the major things, they will run pretty good in the long run after that. I hope that help you.
