You guys are bringing back lots of memories this morning. We were in Denali when it was still McKinley . We spent the night in a hostel made of train cars with bunk beds inside and it was just 50 cents for the night, great fun and didn't have to set up the tent that night. We bought the bus tickets to do the ride through the park. We only saw one griz off in the distance but we saw our first caribou. It's an awesome park to see. Your van looked like our car, covered in dirt and mud. We had to drive through a lot of sections that weren't paved. Loved your video today, loved seeing all the wildlife and the dogs, this was a wonderful share with us today....thank you! Happy travels you four.🥰🌎
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure we drove past those train cars?! Were they painted blue and yellow? Felt so lucky to see the grizzly, and at a spot where we could see him for so long trotting off into the trees. Alaska has spoilt us with wildlife - and huskies!! Weren’t they just SO beautiful. Never seen such happy, relaxed dogs either. Loved it 😍 🐶 xx

@@OverlandingSophia I think so and had Alaska on them. My retired boss moved to Homer Alaska and his daughter moved up there first and started working with sled dogs. He adopted retired sled dogs while still living in Calif. and had them flown down.

Another beautiful video. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome, lifetime experience. I enjoy every single video. 😊 This winter we had temperatures in the minus 30s which is unusual for Nova Scotia. I was lucky my pipes didn't freeze. I got up early throughout the night and turned the water on a bit to keep the water running with a slow trickle which is suppose to help. My daughter lives in northern Alberta and she laughed at me, as it's common for them to get temperatures in the minus 50s. No thanks! 🥶 Love your sweatshirt, although I have no desire to go there. Lol The grizzly was super cool. Stay safe 💖

@@OverlandingSophia in some parts of Alberta, including Calgary right now, air quality from the wildfires is very poor and can affect one's health, depending on their age and health condition. If you run into it, N95 masks might be a good idea as well as limiting time outside? We have had smog here in Nova Scotia from the fires in the last few days. It is in the upper atmosphere so is not affecting our air quality according to meteorologists, but it proves how smoke can travel very long distances. Montana, Idaho, Arizona and Colorado are now getting smoke from the wildfires in Alberta in the States as well, affecting air quality there.

1. You may have done this, but get a heavy duty battery - it helps regardless, but especially at altitude/cold weather. 2. The fastest way to warm up any vehicle with a combustion engine is to start moving. The ‘time to temperature’, can easily be 1/4 the time from just sitting and idling. 3. The electrical plugs for vehicle are primarily for the oil, to maintain viscosity by keeping it warm, and optionally warming the battery to maintain cranking amps…. (Which is why you get a heavy duty battery as you start with greater power reserves)

No way I'd be in alaska without a gun, i know some people who live up there and heard alot of besr stories. I've seen grizzlies from a distance while hunting in idaho they're huge
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Nah you’d be alright. Don’t think any hikers carry guns in Alaska, imagine the extra weight!
@D-A-1776 Жыл бұрын
@@OverlandingSophia . The weight of a Glock 10mm is worth having I hear that weight crap all the time. I'd rather have the extra pound and know I'm safe

I carry a 12 gauge when alone or with one other person. Groups of three or more usually don’t have bear problems. Some of the hikers that didn’t carry just disappear. I had a bear come right at me once by our remote cabin. He stopped less than 10 feet away from me then turned and ran. I was hunting moose and had a 30:06 so I wasn’t to worried.

Are you still in Fairbanks? Saw your van parked in some places. We even slept in the same parking lot!

Ah no way! We left Fairbanks a few days ago now! Spent so long in that car park 😆 Were you parked at Pioneer Park?

Im guessing you must be flying the drone from inside Sophia for the aerial shots. The filming and editing is second to none guys, and the wildlife shots and panorama are once in a lifetime pinch me moments.

Thanks so much Rob, yes indeed! I fly it from the passenger seat while Ben drives. We feel so lucky to have seen the wildlife we have 🐻🐺🧡

You're determining the weather by if you can see the road or not. You crazies! 😂 Anyway. Thanks for sharing! ❤

Given the unreliability of the weather forecast here we gotta work with what we’ve got okay?! 😂🙈

Beautifully photographed, narrated, and edited. We are interested in driving into Denali in our private vehicle. What time of the year were you there?
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Gerald 🥹 We were there only last week. Now 90% of the road is closed to private vehicles. Think it’s open until mile 30 from September to May? ✨

At the 21-minute and 29 second mark, right behind your head to straggly tree go directly behind that one and the pine tree in the background has either a bear up at the top or a baby Sasquatch holding on. Not sure which. We have an 80-in TV and I spotted it right away and looked at it with a magnifying glass and there's definitely something there holding on.😮
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
We’re driving right now but will have another look when we get back!! Although if you needed a magnifying glass on an 80” screen maybe my little 15” laptop screen won’t stand up to much 😂🧡

Congrats on your trip. I watched all your episodes from the moment you came to Canada up to now. We live close to Toronto, Canada and we go camping on tent many times per year in national and provincial parks. This year we will get our 2023 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 Crew AWD 170WB and will start traveling across north america in the fall, 3-4 months at a time. We learnt a lot from you. One single observation, many time when you present natural areas, you are actually filming yourself and the nature can be seen only partially over your shoulder. Advice, separate your talking from filming nature. Everything else is ok. Waiting for your adventure down to Argentina.

Thanks guys, safe and happy travels with the sprinter! Great choice of vehicle if we say so ourselves 😉

Denali park is one of my most favorite places on earth to visit, the highlands in Scotland is my second. I will be there to visit in two weeks.I hope you had the opportunity to stop in Talkeetna on your way south,it is a quirky little place to visit.

Can really see why! It was beautiful. Would love to take the bus deep into the heart of it one day and do some big hikes. Denali is also our the furthest south we’re travelling in the interior 🙏✨
