What. A. Stunner! 😮 That scenery is just magnificent. Real Toblerone territory, haha! One of the things I've always loved about the OS vlogs is your storytelling: there's no constant upping of antes, no clickbait headlines, just honest incredible stories that showcase your adventures and where you are in the world. Bravo! 🎉 Have a great time, see next week! ❤xx

Stewart has all the basics - cell service, fuel, dump & fresh water, groceries. Don’t blink too long going through Hyder. I’ve heard that if you drive past the Salmon Glacier viewing car park and take the first left, the rough road will take you down close to the toe of of the glacier. A spot to stay for the night. Fabulous drone location. Wish we had thought to stay for the night there when we went in 2018. Thanks for the video.

@OverlandingSophia
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Love to hear this 🥹 The cruises are probably great but you'll find that you're sharing each port with 5 or 6 other cruise ships, crammed into a tiny town. If you are up for a camper, or even hiring a car, you can experience so much more. And then you could take the ferries to the places only accessible by boat, getting the best of both worlds ✨

My Sunday viewing is OS and Succession. Succession ends forever tonight😢. Luckily it’s going to take you guys more than a couple of weeks to get to Argentina.❤ The year we drove The Cassiar highway there was smoke in the air for the six days it took us to get to Vancouver because of a dreadful wildfire season. Alberta and somewhat BC have been having a very bad wildfire season this year too. I hope it’s under control for your drive.( but mostly for the residents and wildlife of those areas)

So glad you enjoyed this one! We haven't even touched on the history that is in Alaska, as I'm sure you know, but what little we saw was fascinating. An amazing place. And the bald eagle was so beautiful! They have such angry faces for such graceful and elegant birds 😅 💛 Excellent guess on the final Alaska stop too 🤫

Love seeing the beautiful Yukon, where I live, in your videos. We do the Skagway-Haines loop most summers with our little Roadtrek, when we get visitors. Dyea is the best place to camp-we love it-glad you found it! Also do regular trips to Dawson City etc. etc. For work or pleasure. That actually seemed like a reasonable amount to pay for your ferry trip...although it is short and sweet. (guess I've been living in the north too long😂)How much does it cost to take a vehicle across the English channel or through the chunnel?Wondering if your Alaska stop will be through Stewart, BC to Hyder. Amazing glaciers there. Enjoy!😁
@OverlandingSophia
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
God you live in an incredible part of the world. Think it's fair to say we're going to leave a little piece of our hearts up here. There's something special about the north, yes, even with the -40 winters 😂 We loved Dyea, the little camp on the tidal flats was so peaceful and beautiful, such a special little spot. As for the ferry, it costs half that to go across the channel to France, and usually around £130 to go through the tunnel. But, the English channel isn't exactly the Alaskan fjords, we'll take the extra charge 😆 xx

I live in Seattle and the city thought they didn't need bridges because they could have a bunch of ferries. It costs $30 to drive my little Corrolla onto the Ferry significantly more for bigger cars. Some of my co workers have to take the ferry every day and the cost adds up fast, the cost is prohibitive for alot of commuters. I'd use the ferry alot more if they allowed me to bring my fold up electric scooter on the ferry and the ferries were alittle better maintained/didn't break down so often. Despite these high fees the Ferry system still doesn't have enough money. I can't help but think how the city would have been much better off building bridges the bridge could carry alot more cars and a $5 toll is alot better. I did enjoy riding the Alaska ferry when I vacationed in Alaska but I wouldn't ride the ferry alot it was too expensive.

Bribery is a problem in Mexico, for sure. We had problems when we were in Baja in February at the border. Managed to avoid paying the bribe thankfully but it doesn't mean it won't happen again. We have lots of friends who have recently made the journey down and I think a lot of the negative media attention exaggerates the reality of what you will experience. We will stick to the main overland routes, not go off the beaten path anywhere and keep common sense. We will also be driving through Baja and taking the ferry across. We won't be driving through the border towns in mainland Mexico which are much higher risk.

Another great video! Question for yas: Do you guys have a bit of a hard time going back into a busy public place after spending so much time in remote places with just the two of you? It must be quite the stark contrast between being just in the van with the two of you and the dogs, in the woods and mountains just driving for a week or two and then boom your in a full and busy gold mining town around a bunch of hussle and bustle. I imagine it must feel odd?
@OverlandingSophia
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
It's so interesting you ask this! I think it's harder than we realise. When we got to Skagway it felt like we'd arrived in Tokyo. It seems SO busy and crazy but when I watched the footage back, it wasn't *quite* as busy as we'd experienced it. And I wondered if that was because we'd spent the last 2 months in relative solitude and isolation!
