The guys from French Petroleum had a gearbox go on one of their forward control Land Rovers. They had parts flown in and rebuilt the gearbox in the desert. The photos of them repairing it are quite ‘interesting’.

So awesome seeing an old vehicle for what it was engineered for and not sitting in a driveway as a trophy piece. Thanks for the video guys.

Their was a Queenslander that tried to get from Cairns to Adelaide along one of those remote outback tracks during the COVID 19 statewide bans and nearly died, he was near Innamincka when he was found near an oil pipeline by a Santos maintenance crew half dead. He was one lucky dude.

The H41 4-speed is generally considered bullet proof. They become noisier with wear and some parasite noises may appear at specific speeds, but it's extremely rare to see one grenade itself. I think noise become unbearable far before the end of life, and trigger a rebuild. Considering we don't hear a big screeching noise in the video, I think you were fine! Great video for the last travel with Elsie before a long time!

Good to know then! It definitely only made it at a specific rev range under certain conditions

with the 'fixed' induction cook top, did you notice that the vehicle needs to be almost level, to stop the pan from sliding off?

Awesome trip and a must do! As for the bucking in the 79 , a good set of adjustable shocks and speed can sort it out for 60% of the trip. We are just upgrading our 2020 VX 200 to Kings all round with a 3” lift and 33’s getting her ready for touring! How many litres of water did you carry on this trip?
