Funnily enough for such a dark, broken isekai show this OP is super tragic and depressing. In this OP, if you listen to the lyrics is Lord Ainz silently crying out for help as his dark urges rapidly overpower what little human decency he had left. Only for those last vestiges to be drowned out by silence, darkness and lies. Compare and contrast OPs 2 and 3 where his cries for assistance are conspicuously absent as he coverts to true darkness. The old Momonga is now gone, only Lord Ainz remains.

Ains is more like a grieving god. Being guild master to Ains Oal Gown was the peak of his life: he had friends, struggles and adventures. That all ended over time when his friends drifted apart. Eventually he was left as the guild master of an empty guild, with immense power, but none of the friends he built it with. He was in grief even before the new world. When the NPC’s became sentient, Ains saw them as the legacy of his friends, and eventually a reflection of them that he seeks to protect. I’m sure there’s some irony in there, as an omnipotent god and master of death and time magic, is lonely and grieving for friends lost and times past.

After getting 'refreshed' a lot by that mysterious forced setting as an undead. Every Empathy he got is slowly dwindling. But also it added that his original world is basically Cyberpunk but much worse with the pollution and death was so common, he only cares for the people he is closely cared for. That is his guildmates after losing his mother he has nothing left back in his dystopian futuristic world. Adding that trauma, desensitized by common depressing day to day experience. I think that added as a big pavement of him accepting not being or actually, just being an undead monster instead of a human being by soul. But with his logic and reason, he remains calculative. It may look kind to the outsider that he helps others, but just as he stated to Clementine, He is a Selfish Overlord that strive to protect the name of his Guild and name himself After it after tearing down his playername Momonga to Ainz Ooal Gown (Nine's Own Goal).
