Well there was the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion so the possibillity of members of an all-black infantry having to go against segregational mandates for a neccessary mission alongside a white battalion isn't impossible. Unlikely, but not impossible. First rule of war is that there is none.

Ask your uncle about the 555th parachute Infantry Battalion (Triple Nickels) part of 82nd Airborne. Segregated all black airborne unit. Stayed stateside and did smoke jump, put out forest fires and fires set by Japanese fire balloon attacks on the west coast. Did not see combat because of the ignorance of the time. Took true patriots to fight for a country and in a military that didnt value them

Suppose you portrayed a platoon of one-legged 5-feet tall human soldiers fighting invaders from Saturn in WWII. The former is infinitely likelier than Saturn soldiers, but people would correctly accept the fictional format of unearthly invaders for entertainment's sake but reject the notion of human mini-warriors with one leg as contrary to what we know of WWII . Same thing applies here.

Reminds me of the movie "Shock Waves," about experimental Nazi supersoldiers caged in a scuttled cargo ship because they were untameable, and who were released when an underwater quake broke the ship up. It's one of the best "zombie" movies I've seen, starring Peter Cushing and John Carradine.

indeed, actually a lot of similarities too. A paratrooper that free falls because his airplane got hit. His parachute opens at the last second, multiple airplanes crashing down almost hitting him. he crashes in the water barely escaping death by drowning, crawls out of the water (that is on fire because of debris) and realises that he is very close to an Anti-Air gun...also a german patrol happens to be nearby. this isn't inspired by "historical events"...it's CoD straight copying "Overlord"

Lol to them these machines were cutting edge state of the art future technology. A lot of people that manned these machines had hardly seen technology more advanced than a mid 1930s tractor on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Then one day they find themselves invading another country from the sky which at the time was still a very new concept.

I was a black infantry paratrooper during the Afghan campaign and even I was like, there were no black airborne personnel in WW2. Quit being so soft, its not historically accurate but still a cool scene.

I know it is ironic that there are people pointing out in a zombie movie that the black paratrooper is not historically accurate, but you have to understand that these are the same people who freak out when they see a GI in June 1944 drinking from a canteen that wasn't issued to soldiers until July 1944.

Actually incorrect. They could have easily introduced a black main character and kept it historical by having him be a fighter pilot who was shot down and managed to link up with the white guys after their drop. Still lots of action without having the unit being mixed race.

I can understand why. There are well documented historically renowned cases of combat that led to infantry looking like zombies, and on top of that the Germans where actually trying to make zombies or at least considered it. So it's based in reality still. There's no documented cases at all of black airborne soldiers. Correct me if I'm wrong but there's the triple 5 who remained in the US throughout the war. So it's understandable. They didn't add black airborne for anything other than DEI.

It's one thing to be in a combat situation in which you can dodge, run or shoot back and to have others fighting alongside you. But it's hard for me to imagine anything more terrifying than to be trapped in a plane that is being shot at or in a submarine being depth bombed.

Static line jumps are made form low altitude, often 800-1200 feet. The parachute opens automatically once the line pulls taut. In case of malfunction, there is little if any time to deploy a reserve chute. There is no free fall involved. That's a very different type of jumping.

Black fighter pilot units had some of the highest kills of the USAF - the fact that the US army had a racist policy against black service men serving in combat units went right to the top and that's what should be remembered imho. There are some racist letters from Eisenhower that reflect the belief they weren't suitable.
