Most people don't learn the full original context of the story. If you read Japanese notes on the Kojiki, they explain that Amaterasu was goaded from her cave because the gods were telling her that they found a new sun goddess and they were celebrating. Then they used the mirror to think there was another sun goddess other than herself. It's also explained that all the weird things Uzume did to draw Amaterasu out of the cave were meant to symbolize a ritual that people performed during eclipses.

This is similar to a khasi folktale I learnt few years ago. When the world was innocent, there was a dancefloor for the animals to dance on in the morning/noon. The sun and moon wanted to join them but were too busy doing their duty. {Ka sngi (sun) and U bnai (moon) were sister and brother.} One night, the sun and moon danced on the dancefloor. When the animals saw them, they laughed and made fun of them. The sun was so embarrassed, that she ran off and hid in a cavern. Then, there was total darkness. The animals were frightened. Then an owl said to them 'would anyone like to volunteer? We need the sun!' many tried to volunteer but couldn't. One of the was a peacock. When it was The peacock's turn, he went to the cavern and tried to seduce the sun to get out of the cavern. The sun was so horrified by the peacock's behaviour, she chased him out of the cave. The last one to volunteer was a rooster. When the rooster went to the cavern, he mad a deal with the sun that when he crows 3 times, she will have to come out of the cave and bring light again. The sun agreed to it When the rooster came out of the cavern, he crowed 3 times and the sun came out of the cavern. The animals were overjoyed and that's why the sun comes up when the rooster crows thrice. This is the legend of the sun and the rooster. In my book, it's called 'krem lamet Krem latang'.

The version of the myth I read said that Ameterasu first asked from her cave why everyone was being so happy without a sun goddess, and they said they found a new sun goddess and didn't need her anymore. So she comes out of the cave out of jealously to see this supposed replacement only to see her own reflection. I always thought it was like telling her how much she's needed and appreciated. Most japanese myths give me the impression that Ameterasu is a very emotionally sensitive goddess.

As the dress fell off, the other gods started laughing and joined her; Amaterasu was confused to what was making them laugh, and she emerged. The moment she emerged, she was captured so the gods could seal the cave. It was the sight of herself that distracted her because she'd never seen what she looked like. The typical story shows that she hid because she was frightened of her brother and the rejoicement of the gods ebbed her fear, not a "I-Have-A-Girl-Crush" or "narcissism" nonsense thing. I love the retelling of this myth and you guys did a great job. Now a few things I need to point out. The mirror is one of the 3 sacred treasures of Japan and in myths mirrors show the truth of a person and their soul since they can no lie. The striptease was use to get the gods cheering and get the sun goddess attention before she looks outside, she’s her true beauty and fully come out of the cave with the god of strength’s help and sealing it back up.
