Graham is a different breed but most specimen hunters starts out like him. I started out with a couple of spinner rods and some monkeyclimbers. Every time I went to the fishing shop I'd find something and I'd think to myself 'well that's pretty handy' Now I have a set of gear with which I can fish under any circumstances and I've been to swims where I caught 10+ fish with some very big carp which I absolutely wouldn't have caught without my bait boat. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the way Graham fishes (heck, when I go float fishing for carp I use one of my Granddads old rod and reels must be around 45 y/o now) but it shouldn't be the other way around neither.

I just love Graham's outlook on Tackle etc... I must admit, I am a Tackle Tart, but slowly coming away from it, like clothing fashion too, I think it's age kicking in, I turned 41 lastweek and outlooks change in life... I have fished Bury Hill once many years ago. One of the small lakes. Lovely place. Carp fishing has now sadly swamped our local lakes and I actually get comments when I pop down and floatfish with my small kit and stool. Even the swims are being urbanised to the size of a bobby with hedges cut accordingly. Even the fish get names there caught so many times. We have one 40+lb been out 5 times this year and that can’t be good for the fish☹️. It seems like anglers have forgotten other pleasures of fishing with ultra light tackle and catching other species. The cost of some of the tackle is astronomical and I’ve even seen a bivvy with a television Ariel, I go fishing to get away from all that rubbish!! Keep entertaining us Graeme , always enjoy watching you! Even the lockdown videos were great entertainment mate, thank you!

Love all the videos and im a old carper from the 70s so I remember the old gear well but the reason people buy all the new gear is because they make it more comfortable and you will catch more fish but you don't have to use them

I sincerely appreciate the amount of effort you put in to your videos to both inform and entertain us. This one looked like a herculean effort and provided us with great entertainment. Surely you must have to make several trips to the car to bring all your equipment to the bank, then you have to set it all up (rods, filming gear and the "tent"). Then after the session take it all down run it back to the car in the pouring rain. Yet you make better productions than the BBC without any support. You are a legend and thanks for continuing to provide high quality content for us to enjoy.

It can be a bit of an effort doing it all on my own,but the best item I have is Mike's trolley thing...it really is useful at my age. Can't think why I never had one before.(Still took 2 trips to the car/swim on this trip though,the bivvy and all that Carpy stuff takes up space).

My favourite time as a novice carp fisherman was when I had two odd rods, reels, bite alarms and a canvas brolly. People left me alone because I was obviously a noob. A noob who learned to catch carp consistently on the quiet. My friends used to give me space which made me a much better angler even though I didn't spend half the time chatting. A loner with fish on the bank. A very happy man.

I once bumped into a local legend on the Pit I was fishing, couldn't believe he was the demon angler I was told he was, three different rods, different reels, different buzzers, little pots of canary seed soaking, and a few hook baits, what a joke I thought! Next morning no carp for me, six carp for Cooperman! I learnt something that session.

@@robertmitchell9415 people see a popular bivvy, rods, pod ect and instantly you are a fellow "angler" who invites conversation (distraction) just by the first impression, imho usually all the gear no idea. When you have a bunch of mismatch gear people leave you alone. I never take my eyes off the water, all it takes is seeing a fish quietly roll to put them in your net. Social fishing is just that I never expect to put fish on the bank, its funny because I got a reputation for being antisocial 😂 among my friends who was known for out catching them despite using the same rigs, bait ect, they never twigged why...

Hey Graeme, I was on the fence on piling in tons of boilies on long sessions and just started using PVA bags/stockings to be more economical with the bait going in and I like the idea of the groundbait snowballs. Nice to see these tactics work, I'm a Yorkshireman so makes sense not spending so much to nick a bite. Great video mate!

I started just firing out a random pva stocking and hookbait last year to save on loose boilies,found I seemed to catch just as much . Mind you it was on waters where everyone was belting out boilies so I feel the Carp are well used to someone feeding them regularly ...just not me.

A nice bit of relaxation with some vicarious fishing. Oh, and Graeme, I have a wonderful recipe for carp! Carefully dress and filet a good sized carp, and affix the filet to a fresh red cedar board. Season with salt, pepper and a bit of lemon, and put in an icebox for about twelve hours. After twelve hours, remove from the icebox, and pan fry both board and fillet in garlic butter. When golden brown, discard the carp and eat the board... (I know, that one is so old it has dinosaur doin's all over it, but I couldn't resist.)

@@alexgriffin8399 From my experience here in the US , they used to be considered a poor folks food, and there was a certain amount of stigma attached to eating carp (hence the old joke). However, this is mostly because people don't prepare them properly. They need to immediately get put on ice, and the bloodline needs to be removed. They are also sensitive to pollution, which can make them taste manky. Since they are an oily fish, they are a treat beer battered, deep fried and served with fresh chips and a pint. I am partial to a Harviestoun's "Old Engine Oil" and Theakston's Old Peculier, but, horses for courses.

Great stuff - secondhand bed, rods, bivvy absolute star. Best way to go fishing. Recycle and reuse - I have rods 25 to 30 years old and they have scratches, chips, nicks but stlll land 30lb carp 👌

Hey I find that when you have to use a big carp net tuck the net into the gap where the Y is. The weight of the fish will push it down into the net. Saves the net hanging down hitting stuff or tearing you arm off.

Great video again graeme! I think the answer to your no tent rules question is... The no tent rules prevents 'casuals' from night fishing who are only there to drink and be a pain etc... Anyone with the correct equipment eg. A bivvy are more likely to have taken angling up as an actual hobby and will respect the wildlife and other anglers. All the best👍

I have a bevvy bed and I don't use it becoz i take my layback garden chair so I can have up right or laying down and it's cheap to ok i get the wife telling me of when I take it fishing but it's ok lol but I do love watching TA fishing and outdoor TA as well great guy's

Hi Graeme, there is actually a reason to ban tents on lakes. Some disagree, some agree with it but the general rule is it's a mild deterrent of what's known as the "Argos angler" - basically cheap, easily broken gear. Most places want only people who know what they're doing to do a night session. If you're using a cheap tent & the ropes come loose at 2am, accidents can happen. Bivvies are usually a lot sturdier and robust than tents so there is less chance of someone doing themselves warm in the pitch black of night. I often wondered this myself as some tents (green ones too!) looked like they'd the job for me but after asking my local lakes, this is what they told me. These are lakes that don't sell tackle neither so no fooling me. Granted I think you rocked up with a tent that looked sturdy enough I don't think anyone would bother you about it. They just don't want you getting a 30 quid tent from Tesco and causing yourself warm in the pouring rain at 3am because it falls down.

I remember getting my first heron bite indicator in 1978 wired it to a extension box to reach inside my polythene golf umbrella (bivvy)🤣 had to pack it with cotton wool because the sound was that loud when it went off the bloke in the next lake struck!!!!
