I've been fishing in Hawaii, on the big island for 45 years now. I have a custom built Force 30 flybridge boat. I mostly commercial fish , all over the big island, on 4-5 day trips. I do take friends out on day trips for fun too, and as I'm based out of Honokohau harbor in kona, we have some of the best Blue Marlin fishing, both trolling lures and live bait, aku or skipjack tuna. I've caught a lot of big donkeys (over 500 lb Blue Marlin) all the way up to granders or 1000+ lb Marlin!!! Kona has really been mecca for big blue marlin fishing , so I know the gulf and those rig platforms are amazing when they're holding a lot of fish, but the big island is pretty hard to beat, and it's so deep so close to shore, you don't have to travel far out to be in the 100-1000 fathom ledges!!! I've caught huge marlin many times within 50-100 yards of the lava rock coastline, sometimes 5 minutes after leaving the harbor! Like anywhere, when the fishing is really good and there's a lot of fish around, it's just one of the best places to catch pig pelagic fish like marlin and big ahi or yellowfin tuna which we get a lot of the 200+lb size!!! That boat is crazy!! Enjoy! Aloha from beautiful Hawaii DL

Fished off Kona as well on the Humdinger with Jeff Fay, when lived in Hawaii Kai. Had my own 21' Fiberform cuddy, and trolled "ono alley" between Koko Head and Diamond Head. Unfortunately had to transfer back to Texas, but had 3 boats, the last a 24' Robalo, out of Surfside Texas. Texas does have a great fishery, and probably on par with Hawaii. Moving back to Hawaii in couple years, as retired now. Not sure if back to Hono, or Kona, and definitely buying a boat again. Aloha from Texas (for now)...🤙🤙🤙

Why do you have to have coolers full of bagged ice on a $10 million Viking? Shouldn’t it make unlimited ice based on fresh water tank capacity for fish wells? Serious question.
@louisvillelouisville2184 ай бұрын
It will have a water maker and have unlimited fresh water but it takes a lot longer to freeze water than to simply buy ice. Easy to use it faster than you can make it.

A few quick observations - some funny. First, top notch crew with excellent fishing instruction, technique and perfect gaff shots every time! Never touched the meat! Second, funny as hell! Your sponsor is a healthy meal and you're digging in the freezer for a microwaved burger! LOL Lastly, to keep it short, why were you using bagged ice instead of ice most likely produced the the boat's ice machine? It would fit better in the box. But the most important comment is the first. Great crew! Keep up the good work fellas!

If you want to catch fish, go to the golf! I’ve been to the big island 7 times fished on many great boats I can tell you it is a waste of what used to be a good fishery. It will never change until you guys quit hanging Marlins and making jerky out of them, which no one likes. I understand the culture there very well, but The fishery will not change until the locals figure it out. Don’t expect to go back until this fishery is better regulated, which is hard for me to say because I don’t believe in regulations, but Kona is a perfect example of a place with zero regulation.

I’ve had a few opportunities to fish some big sport fish boats. Never on a 90’ Viking. It is much more of a production and not nearly as fun as a center console. They are luxurious though. Getting to sleep in the AC while the mates do all the work is nice but lacks the payoff of full appreciation to me. When you’re all on deck on a center console everyone gets involved. It’s just better to me. Not that I won’t go back out on a sport fish again, it’s just different.

A mako shark the size of a great white slowly and calmly swam down the side of the boat and ate them one by one. It was a spectacle. That thing looked like it weighed 1500-2000 lbs and 15’ long.
