best camp i have ever had bar non... best breakfast ever too. changed my mind on camp cooking 100% the fish smelled fantastic and tasted out of this world and the meat in the morning set the lads up for the day. i did not think camp cooking could be this easy or tasty. one of the very few long term camp cookers that can put his money were his mouth is. good banter, good palls, good food. oscar and dan....livin the dream. peace pall

I think as long as you clean up after yourself, and take precautions then there should be no reason not to enjoy a fire. I left the UK a while back and camp all over Chile and Argentina in the Andes mountains and Patagonia area. The sound of the fire I find almost therapeutic and it's also a godsend to heat up and motorcycle boots and clothes if it's been raining through the day. Enjoying seeing blighty through your vids. there are a lot of people setting fire to the countryside. I live in Derbyshire we are getting a lot of folk holding raves, and large camps, coming down from Manchester and Sheffield. they leave tents rubbish and hot BBQs and fires. I worry that some wild camper will be caught in a fire. I love camping and seeing the vids people put up. am not a nimby, remember peat burns.

I can't stand the terminology that the press use. In my opinion, what English Woodsman and Oscar are doing in this video, is wild camping. Quiet, stealthy and respectful of surrounding's. People who turn up wherever they fancy ,in car's that are lit up like Blackpool and have " Rave " music at full volume, are just townie trouble makers with zero respect for: Nature Countryside Other's Themselve's and more that I fail to remember at this point ( duh ) These are the people setting fire's in the countryside. Not "proper " wild camper's like most folks watching channels like this. I had a little spat on twitter the other day with a Ranger from the New Forest. I called her out for painting all Wild Campers in the same light as the arsehats who set fire to a ( luckily ) smallish patch of Heath in the New Forest. I challenged her to find me wild camping on her patch, on an agreed section of the Forest and bet her that she couldn't see, smell or hear me. Needless to say I had no feedback/response from her. No doubt, many of you reading this will be thinking, " just carry on solo wilding and leave it alone". My opinion is that we should have the right, within reason and by-laws, to be able to go explore and wild camp like Scotland and Wales ( and a few select spots in England ). There are so many woodland's that are privately owned with nothing happening on them except the landowners bragging rights. I didn't mean this to be a rant but hey, I don't like being tarred with the same brush as the naive townies, just because the media don't understand that 99% of people, out on a multi-day with tarp, bivvy, twig stove and sore feet, are an amazing community that enhance ( by litter picking ) the areas they move through. Me and a mate wild camped in the woods for 2 days over the weekend. We kept it small, we were respectful, we only used fallen trees and we made sure we left no trace. I see no issue in that.

I'm torn with camp fires, I love to hear the wood crackle, feeling the heat on my face, and watching the flames dancing. UK woodlands are small compared to other countries where there is a surplus of wood. As many wild campers have demonstrated lately leaving the site looking like a waste tip is disappointing. It's fine to use fallen trees and branches but many may start butchering saplings and living wood. If everyone does it the woods will become damaged, not everyone uses their nogging!!! Nice vid👍

Another problem is that most people don't recognise that most deciduous woodland in England is privately owned or protected. And most dead standing and trees felled for thinning already belong to the land owner and are simply seasoned in place ready to be collected by the forest manager. Most forest managers would be fine with a few skilled wild campers in the forests they manage, sometimes it can help keep less savoury types away. But as I say, most don't even recognise managed land when they see it.

To me campy fires are not the problem its the lack of knowledge of putting them out , I have witnessed so called pros who burnt a woodlands down cos they thought it was out , people must be aware of the root systems when putting out fires . but I have nothing against them as long as you leave no trace , great idea with the mosquito net I would have took some pegs and covered the whole doorway ,but great idea though mate. I love campfires. However, I camp in areas with few restrictions. If we have dry weather and fire restrictions common since says use a camp stove. In areas that prohibit fires, do the same.

Good video dan it’s nice to see you using open fire again. I think the use of spices on a lot of food like fish over powers the taste of the fish or whatever you are cooking. In my opinion spices should only be used when the meal your cooking is very bland, we have been bombarded by tv chefs who are trying to outdo each other so they just change the flavour of whatever fish or meat they are using. Sometimes it is so nice to have a nice piece of steak with nothing on it just to savour the flavour. As for the fire as long as it’s been looked after correctly and put out and removed at the end of a camp I don’t see any harm, the problem comes when people let them get out of control and leave a big pile of Ashe when they leave.

I am a firm believer of leave no trace. As for camp fires 🔥 theres a time and a place. With the recent droughts we’ve had, they’re irresponsible. On moor land. No. In woods as long as you’re not destroying the roots, the environment it’s fine. The fire needs managing and not left to burn Unattended. The ground must be throughly wetted as the heat goes down deep. Makes a change from the stoves. Good video Great Feast Nice setup.👍🏻 No not girly to use a mossie net. 👍🏻

The only place I wouldn’t have a carefully managed fire, would be up high in places like the lakes etc...gas only, leave no trace. Down low...you can easily conceal a campfire and there’s nowt better. 👌🏻💪🏻 Mozzy net 100% required at certain times of year / certain locations...

Great video with some good food. Nothing wrong with having a fire, only advice is remove a layer of soil to place back over the scorched ground when finished. That way nobody can tell you've Been there.👍

Campfires are OK, the only thing I will say is that some coniferous or pine trees have long roots that can be set alite by campfires, the fire can burn the roots over time and start a larger fire if above ground has been dry. You don't seem to have any Conifers near you at the moment but be careful for that

That salmon eh. I too use an added cup but you can't fully get away from added flying protein ending up in your cup. Last time I was on kebabs with chicken, prawns, pork and peppers covered in a Sashwan sauce.

Best way to cook is on fire 🔥 I do use a metal base plate under my fires as it can only be a good thing but I really don't have a problem in them as long as mess is tidy down and its put out properly in morning
