-- Join me in this Canadian adventure.
Shawn James from the KZbin channel My Self Reliance and I set off from his log cabin in the forest, we hike in the snow, pulling sleds carrying our camping gear.
We travel to a frozen lake, set up a snowtrekker hot tent, chop firewood for the cold night, and auger holes in the ice so we can ice fish.
We catch a few northern pike, and cook them up for supper, all while experiencing camping in a supermoon.
Enjoy!

I spent many a summer and winter exploring the lake region around Gravenhurst, Barrie, and Collingwood (family had a farm there). Tom, although I love Joe's vids, why aren't you talking with other people in the pub, and playing with your phone instead? That seems conteractive of the point of going to the pub... unless you're watching and showing it off to mates? Live life mate, you sound like my son, that doesn't know how to interact, or most people, since smartphones have become a thing. (from an ex bar manager) Pubs used to be the social capitol of any town/city, at least here in Aus. Have things changed so much (I'm old)? I can't afford that level of socialization anymore (worked my body way beyond its limits in a multitude of hard jobs), so have no idea. But sitting on your phone at the pub, just seems so sad to me. Kindest regards, I mean no offence.

Hi mate it’s nothing to do with being shy or insecure it was a day off so I thought fuck it go to the pub watch Joe have a quiet pint And wait for the wife to finish work There was no offence taken to the comment that you made. I’m from the UK place called Essex and it’s quite often that a geezer could go to the pub and have a quiet pint on their own.

No worries Tom, it's just that I see so many around me these day, my dear old Ma included (in her 70's) with their noses to their phones/iPads instead of noticing the world around them. Myself, I need the big screen on the PC before I can even be bothered looking. Thanks for the reply and best of luck to you.

Love seeing you only have the fish out of the water for less than 10 seconds! It's seen all too often, people keeping fish out of the water for what must be minutes, tryna get the best photos that they can and I appreciate the photos, but when the fish is being released, it is essential to get them back in the water asap, anyone agree? Love these winter vids aswell!!

The Wooded Beardsman I believe it is because there would be no where to tie the tent down. In saying that they can use what they used to tie the ice fishing tent down.
@TheWoodedBeardsman
@TheWoodedBeardsman 6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense. If that was the only reason, you could get some of those ice screws..or half drill an auger hole and then wedge in a piece of wood just the right size. If you had enough snow you could freeze a pile...but yeah, I get it. I think one of the other reasons might be wind? I'm a fisher though, so the draw backs might be outweighed by the benefits. I'd like to be nice and toasty while fishing :)

You can set up a tent / shed on the ice to sleep / fish, and you can have an open fire on the ice (I've done it. It caused the ice to drop about an inch an hour with a small fire on it), but I wouldn't be dumb enough to mix the two. Because if the shelter is warm enough to keep you warm its warm enough to melt ice, and you don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night by plunging into subzero ice water wrapped in a sleeping bag with a tent crashing down on top of you causing you to drown.

Have watched a few of your videos. This one is my favorite, because of shawn. I like to see hunter gather stuff. Self sufficiency. With all the fish shawn caught you guys ate very good. Way to go shawn! Any one can start a fire and set up a tent. Feeding yourself and others off the land takes skill. Even tho you didn't receive the props you should have, you are the man shawn! I think you should show more self reliance in your vids joe.

My_Name_Is_Chef just sounds like a compressor is needed when editing :) it will sort of make the higher and lower levels to sound a bit more normalized and even. Maybe I’m picky :) it’s just a suggestion to improve the video experience. If a compressor is already used it sounds like it doesn’t doing its job :D

Well, maybe a little picky XD But maybe just a little less blunt when giving criticism.

Ice fishing is the best! I couldn't ask for more, unless I too could also camp in a hot tent after ice fishing. I'm very jealous right now.

Story time with Nanny a baller is a slang term to define one who has made it financially. It could also be used to define a basketball player or a person or device used to form balls.
