Cleaning under and/or behind your refrigerator is essential to keep it working properly…especially where the vents and coils are!!! You can literally extend the life of your appliances by years, simply keeping the ventilation areas clear of dust and debris.

Have you tried Branch Basics dishwasher tablets? My mom and I have both had really good results with them, so might be worth trying if you want a natural one that might work better than Molly's Suds. Might depend on the type of water (city vs. well), and possibly the kind of dishwasher, but if you want to try another natural one, I would highly suggest that one.

Yes and it's also a fire hazard for the dust to build up around the refrigerator coils or the motor so it's important to keep it dust free.

One trick I learned with laundry stains is to spray the backside of the stain first and then spray the stain itself. I dunno if this will help anyone else. I just thought i would mention it. A lot of good tips and thank you for testing these out Dawn. 😊

DAWN!!! I have been wanting to contact you. I have been a simple living/minimalist for 35 years. I am 68! What is sorely needed is ideas for keeping the house clean for Seniors! We are a big group of mostly Baby Boomers❤Also,at our age we are contending with health and mobility issues that we never thought we would experience. I am an avid watcher of you and other women into the minimalist lifestyle but many of us cannot do some of the deep cleaning or organization of changing old habits. How refreshing it would be to see someone over 65, dealing with living alone, or having medical/handicap issues. We get so tired and so 😅easily that some of the suggestions are not available for us. We have no handy husband or even enough money to spend on a handyman to even put up a shelf. Families are often too far away, too busy, or just not able to be available. Just a thought for you and your fellow experts to explore😊

I'm 57 and a wee bit younger than you but I've been thinking about this, too, for the longest time. I'm disabled and its so hard to clean. I try and so does my hubby but many times with being in pain, the cleaning is taking a back seat because regular cleaning tools are hard to use when mobility and pain is an issue.

I bought the best vacuum robot I could get and let it run. New furniture has to go down to the floor or it has to have high legs for the robot, nothing inbetween. I have enough dishes to fill the dishwasher slowly and I put all the pans and pots in it. In my new kitchen I have a very broad sink for the huge baking trays. The countertop is made of good plastic, easy to clean and no liquid can make stains. Since retirement I don't iron anymore. I miss silk and cashmere, but I am not willing to maintain it.

My experience also! I have always cleaned my own home. My husband was very complimentary when he came home from work , telling me he appreciated me and loved that we had a clean home. That was several years ago, he passed away 8 years ago, I still try to keep a clean home, my physical Problems make it more difficult to do all I want to do or need to do. I love watching you young ladies organize and clean , but I just have to watch and do the best I can. Did not intend this post to sound whiney or complaining , just sharing! And I’m in agreement with another post who has about my same problem, show some cleaning tips for us seniors to help us!!

I’m 73 and dealing with arthritis, total knee replacement since Jun/2023 and other ailments that most of us Baby Boomers are facing. I also lost my husband 8 yrs. ago who used to do our handy work at home! It’s very debilitating to keep up a clean house when you’re in pain and can’t afford a cleaning person to do it for you! Even though my two children try to help but both have their own jobs and families to take care of. So Dawn it would be nice to have you or someone to coach us on how to do “minimalist cleaning” for us old gals 😊 thank you and God bless!❤

I personally love the soap pump extension. I have one that I installed when I redid my kitchen back in 2021 and game changer. I needed to decide if I wanted a pump drilled into the counter and I didn’t want to have to change out the soap all the time. Then I found out about this and WOW. I buy one really big bottle and only have to change it once per year. I liked it so much I ended up buying one as a gift for my Mom. She never used her soap dispenser because she disliked filling the soap. Protip: those extra caps they give you for all of the possible options, you can put on the plastic tube under the sink so you don’t have to store them. I love when you don’t have to store extra parts. Then when I need to change out the soap, I have everything I need in one spot (to be honest, I end up usually buying the same thing the next year so it is like 2 seconds to change out the bottle.

I got the swedish dish cloths. I was impressed with the way stains washed out just at the sink. I made chocolate ice cream which of course dropped and the chocolate came out easily. However I don't think there are as good as microfiber at cleaning countertops or stovetop. They don't wring out as dry as the microfiber. What I have enjoyed and found more useful than I thought I would, are the flannel cloths that are sold as reusable paper towels. I mainly use paper towels to drain grease so I don't use the flannels for that. But for other small odd jobs I really like them.

Great ‘real’ video Dawn. I look forward so much to your new videos. Re that angry momma thing. I saw this for the first time about eight years ago. I hated them then and I still hate them now. How stupid to buy a single purpose product like that when a bowl of water and vinegar would do the same job. There is so much unnecessary plastic crap being manufactured on this planet and these angry mommas are for me symbolic of this. I wonder how many angry mommas are pushed into the back of cupboards and never used. Dawn I’m glad you came to the conclusion that a coffee cup of vinegar and water would do the same job.

I have used swedish dishclothes for many years and the lighter colored dishcloths do stain eventually, I soak them in a sink full of water with a laundry stain remover with borax or bleach for 30 minutes or more. These are very durable and last for months. When they are just slightly damp they work as you would use a paper towel. They don't get sour smelling like regular dishcloths

I never use bleach or chlorine in my home it's something my mom never used and I never use it either. I wash my dishcloths in the washingmachine in atleast 60°C (about 140° F) it's your Hot cycle I think. Only detergent, no softener or bleach. It destroys the cloth. The hot water combine with the just right amount of detergent makes the cloth clean and bacteria free. It will last montessori and months. Hangdry is to prefer to keep the absorption capacity.

I do have to say that flat tool is amazing for cleaning under fridges, on top of built in fridges, and under stoves as well as the back of fridges if you don’t want to move it out. Personally i can’t see it working very well for fan blades. One of my go to dusters is the long swiffer duster. It extends to 6 feet and I purchased the reusable/washable duster heads. Love your channel!❤

I LOVE you & I really enjoyed this video! Swedish dishcloths are just weird when dry, since they are stiff. Yes, they get grubby when it is time to get rid of. I just prefer the flexible fabric of cloths. I just use cotton washcloths & cut up old towels & cut up old flannel blankets for kitchen cleaning. I use cut up tshirts for napkins. Sooo much more effective at cleaning bbq sauce from fingers & even wipe the table down afterwards! For the stove, try Bar Keepers stovetop cleaner... our stove is MANY years old & looks nearly new... & we cook 95% of meals!

I love the Swedish dish cloths!!! I have had mine for over 7 years (that's right, literally the exact same dish cloths for 7 years) and they are still going strong! I wash mine in the washing machine and hang them to dry. I love them for wiping off counters and the table. Other dish cloths seem to smear crumbs around but the Swedish dish cloths pick stuff up amazingly and require less elbow grease! I discovered them over 20 years ago when I lived in Sweden for a year (I am Swedish, but born and raised in Canada). Everyone used them in Sweden and they worked so well. When we did a trip to Sweden 7 years ago, I told my husband we had to buy some because they were the best thing ever and I had not seen them anywhere else other than in Sweden. But the last couple of years I have seen them popping up for sale in stores here in North America, which made me so excited for other people to be able to use such a great product. Hopefully the ones sold here in North America are of the same quality as the ones I bought in Sweden. In Sweden I bought one pack from ICA (a common Swedish supermarket) and a cheaper pack from IKEA. The IKEA Swedish dish cloths are definitely cheap quality: thinner, have a lot of pilling now and have not held up like the slightly thicker ones from ICA, which have no pilling (and this is after having used them the same amount of time). In fact, I've probably used my ICA ones even more because they are simply better quality and the IKEA ones I'll use only if all the other good ones are in the wash. Lol, idk if IKEA sells Swedish dish cloths here in North America, but if they do, I would not buy them from there if I were you.

Thank you Dawn for the great video as always. I love the Swedish dish clothes and have found them to be durable and easy to use. Mine have not pilled or torn with frequent use. I love that they don’t get as bad smelling as a traditional dish cloth. I actually bleach mine and run through the dishwasher at times as well. As a minimalist it is a game changer for me and I love the low profile and small amount of space to store them. Thank you for your wisdom and the kindness you put out in the world❤

The dryer brush does not work, but I guarantee you there is lots of lint in the bottom that is unreachable. I have taken the lint holder apart by unscrewing it from the inside (time consuming), but you would be shocked how much lint gets smashed down and is in the bottom.

I have a top lint trap, so this brush fits down it really well, I can see that it's not right for the door traps. I still take the back of my dryer apart every few months to deep clean with a vaccum. actually, some older dryers have a panel under the dryer door that just pops open by inseerting a butter knife or screwdriver. My whirlpool is made like that and it is so handy. I wish everyone knew that they need to be cleaning out the inside of the dryer regularly to prevent fires, just as well as cleaning out the dryer hose and the vent leading out of the house. I just wish the dryer manufacturers were more concerned about safety and yes, made the dryer inside easily accessed, and also, if they could make it to where all that lint couldnt get down into all those crevices. lol @@mieander

the leaf blower can be used to blow lint out of the dryer vent leading outside. But, I use a shop vac to clean out the inside of the dryer. I first vacuum everything accessible then use the blower port to get to any hard to access spaces, and then vacuum again. @@ETcallhome

I just happened upon your channel when I was watching my ROKU the other night. I like what you are talking about. I am a non-motivated woman when it comes to cleaning and I dread it every time I think about it. I will turn 70 in two days and cleaning just isn't my thing. I live alone with my two shedding dogs and of course the hair is always a problem but I love my dogs so I deal with the hair. I saw the paddle fan duster mop and decided to get one from Amazon. It arrived today and I cleaned all the fans except the one in my paint room. I am very impressed with this thing!!! I thought for sure the dust was going to rain all over me but it didn't. After cleaning two fans I took the mop outside and gave it several good shakes then cleaned the other fans. Amazing. All these years I have gotten up on a sturdy step stool and cleaned the blades with a damp cloth and I hated this chore so much. Today I didn't need the step stool because of course the mop has the pole and reaches fine. I am very happy with this cleaning tool. I've taken your advise on using certain products too. It isn't as if I don't have any cleaning products but I was just not happy with them. I do use baking soda and vinegar often but I wanted something with more power. Today in the grocery store I purchased a bottle of foam cleaner (Lysol) for the two bathrooms I have and I'm going to see if it cleans the shower. The shower in this house is made of fiberglass I think and this particular bathroom was added to the office that was added to this house. The house was built in 1950. The water here has rust/clay in it so it leaves a rusty looking residue on the shower stall. I live in the northern part of S.C. and there is lots of clay here. I used the Lysol spray on my baseboards today to see how clean it would get them and they got really clean. The spray smells really nice. I know you didn't mention Lysol spray in your video but I saw it in the Food Lion and liked that it kills germs. I don't understand how you can happily do these cleaning videos but I'm glad you do. I would rather take a beating than clean house. Lol. I keep my kitchen clean, the bathrooms clean and change my sheets, etc. but I hate to 'deep' clean, dust and vacuum. It hurts my back and makes me sweaty. I would rather be working on a painting. Anyway, thank you for sharing your advise. It's most appreciated by me. Happy Mother's Day!!!!

I had to come back here - I bought 3 items becuz of this very video! The broombi (I also got the handheld w/dust pan), the Swedish dish cloths and the fan duster. OMGoodness..........game changers in my house! First the broombi is the BEST broom ive ever used in my life...........I have been sweeping up so much dog hair I can't believe it. I even sweep up my rug and it's mind blowing what you can sweep off a rug with this thing. I love the clean up, and also that I can hang it on the side of my fridge.....this is soooooo much better than traditional brooms. The handheld is just as awesome, especially for clearing the countertops, then you can spray and wipe them down. Matter of fact, when I cleared my kitchen countertop I could easily see in the white dustpan what I got (I thought was spices) and what I found is dead ant bodies (they showed up one morning after having cleaned the night before) - so needless to say this helped me discover an ant problem in my kitchen! Second, the Swedish dish cloths.......AWESOME! I decided to replace all my existing dish cloths with this one pack I ordered - they work that good. Third is the fan duster........I got this because the ceilings in our bedrooms are so high, I'd have to move the beds and get on a ladder to clean the ceiling fans......well this worked perfectly and did not pull dust down on the beds!!!! Can't thank Dawn enough for her review of these items!!!

About the skinny lint brush, it really becomes useful if you remove the dryer filter assembly (takes undoing three screws normally) and use the lint brush in the larger cavity in the dryer where the filter assembly usually sits. That's because lint tends to stick on the internal metal walls and start layering. That skinny lint brush is a wonder at scraping the stuck-on lint off. Then you can use a vacuum hose attachment connected to your vacuum and suck it all up. The cavity will be much cleaner for longer term cleaning. Plus, it is much easier to clean the filter assembly by spraying it down in the kitchen sink because it has a lot of spots where lint likes to hide. Then you can reattach it. It can take less than half an hour, but you are giving your dryer a much better deep clean. Bonus: When you do remove the filter assembly, you see the connection wires for the sensor that sits right by the filter assembly. Lint gets stuck there easily, and then a smart dryer may send out false warnings about the heating or the lint buildup in the machine. Keeping that connection clean can save you money from unnecessary repair call outs.

Hi Dawn 😊 I use the Swedish dish cloths and absolutely love them! It's my go to for dishes and especially wiping kitchen counters and table. Super effective and soft to touch. They've held up after several washes, but do dry kind of "crispy", so they don't fold up neatly. Not to worry though, as soon as you add water, they loosen right up and become soft again.

I've found a good way to get rid of grease stains off of clothing - just getting the area wet and making a bit of a paste out of baking soda - letting that sit and then washing it later. Dawn @TheMinimalMom , I saw a couple things that I wanted to comment on. The very first time I ever saw you talk about Molly Suds I was curious because I have been looking for something with out the big jugs and something more natural. I looked on Amazon at Molly suds, and was kind of appalled at the price. I looked at the ingredients and then I made my own. I used 1 1/2 cups each of baking soda and of washing soda, a 1/2 cup of Epsom salts and a 1/4 cup of sea salt and then 20 to 30 drops of essential oils (not lemon). It seems really strong when you're mixing it up because of the essential oils but you only use one tablespoon per load So it's not going to smell that strong at all on your clothes. Mine stay nice and fresh even in my closet afterwards. So essentially for about 10 to $12 worth of ingredients I have a year's worth of laundry soap. I love it and it's been working so well that I shared the recipe with my daughter and she loves it. I also shared it with several friends who also made it and liked it so well they shared it with their other friends. So I just wanted to mention it to you because it's certainly way more economical than Molly Suds. I have it labeled as Molly's Suds copycat On another note when you were talking about your mom's glass top stove, my daughter's stove looked just like that and it had been like that for years. I sprayed it with a little bit of water and then I put baking soda on it and let it sit for just a couple minutes and then using one of those green Scotch-Brite scrubby things I got it off in minutes. And it looked like new. I watched that on somebody else's KZbin video, maybe Do It On A Dime or something, and I tried it and I was so impressed because it's so simple and everyday ingredients. Thanks so much for all you do, I enjoy all your videos.

@kkoeshall9136
@kkoeshall9136 2 ай бұрын
@@rachelperkins9964 I do not have an HE washer, mine is probably older in his top load and I just start the water running and throw in the tablespoon of powder and then start loading my clothes right away. I think the key is that you don't want to use more than that tablespoon unless you're washing like a whole big load of really really dirty clothes like from a husband that works construction or something you know? I tried making something similar to this years ago and I thought there's no way one tablespoon will get everything clean so I did two and my coloreds faded a little bit. So I threw it all away. Dumb move but I learned, so now I stick to my one tablespoon for a load and it works! I hope you try it. *** I might add, I order a bottle of essential oil from Eden's Garden called "Cleaning" and I use that as my essential oil in my laundry detergent. And also, I put some in a small spray bottle with filtered water and like a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel for a room spray and it smells amazing.

Even though I love to watch you demo all these products and I am so tempted by them in store, I stick with a spray bottle with water and a little dish soap for pretty much everything, including glass and toilets (we have soft water so we don't get rust). I have another spray bottle with water and a little bit of vinegar if the glass streaks (it doesn't usually). I use baking soda as a scrub. I use old cotton towels cut up for cleaning cloths and couple of brushes for grout. The one specialty tool I use is Vileda scrunge for ceramic stove tops. I've tried so many different products that just don't work. But I still love this video every year!

I had bought one of those long thingies that you used to clean out under the refrigerator, but I had not yet used it. However, last week disaster struck when I dropped two dozen eggs onto the floor in front of the refrigerator. After cleaning up the majority of the mess using my O Cedar mop, I used that long thingy to get the rest of the stuff out from under the refrigerator. It worked really well. Had I had one, that silicone broom would probably have been the perfect tool to clean up the initial mess of eggs.

just bought the vent cleaner that attaches to your vacuum and it works great! Also, 7th generation free and clear pods for the dishwasher works very well too.

Angry mama is angry because steam comes out of her head, lol. Also, I don't think you added the water to the fill line. I've used angry mama for years, I enjoy that I'm not as angry as her. :)

Sorry, Dawn, I am almost always a naysayer. They have something similar at the DT for sweeping the floors, just the bottom part and another for the fan blades. I did get two different sets of Swedish towels, I don't like them. I got them to get on board to take responsibility on taking care of our EARTH. I rather use old socks, t-shirts, old towels and any other rags. I cut them up to the sizes needed. I do have paper towels, but I only buy a 6 pk every 18 months or so, for the bad messes or to drain oil off of fried foods. For the dishwasher, I re-run it with only water and at that time I do the disinfect cycle. So I run it twice. I got a similar brush at a dollar store, that you are trying in your dryer opening/ where the lint trap goes. I use it for under the fridge and stove. Dishwashing soap is great for oil, foods, and blood stains before the washer. Thank you for all you do. Beyond how negative I tend to be, I truly need Your videos. Thank you for all you do ❣️🤔😒🫣

That toliet brush is such a cool design- form follows function! I may have to retire my OXO ones. And had no clue about the Zep Acid cleaner. Hmmm, I use an old tube sock turned inside-out and stuck on a yardstick to clean under appliances- cheap and cheerful!

I like tube socks over your hand to clean fans. I also use tube socks to dust furniture.

Oven cleaner is my go to... For electric tops, gas tops and glass tops. I spray it and give it a few minutes and clean in layers. So spray soak a few minutes, clean, and repeat

I feel that Dawn Power Spray works as well as oven cleaner, without the fumes. I’m so impressed with it.
