Sometimes a deck can be just a lovely work of art and needs no other task assigned to it. You could always do a collage or art piece with the deck your mum bought you...would make a lovely keepsake ❤🌞

I have used many of the decks you mentioned . Here is a way to interact with each deck . Get a notebook shuffle the deck , pick a new card each day , note your first impressions , then at end of the day make notes about your day and how it related to your card , then you can look up meaning according to author ,. make sure that if you have already chosen that card on previous day , then draw a new one .Alternatively you can chose to wait to look up the meanings in the book after you have chosen the complete deck . My experience is that the cards will relate to you individually and show you what they are all about. Brightest and deepest blessings

Love the faeries deck by Froud and Macbeth so much! But, I agree, it's a heavy hitter som times. It was one of my first oracles and I find the deck the perfect balance between light and dark, and it always speaks the thruth! When I need tobe pushed out of my comfort zone, I always consult the faeries :)

What a clever video topic! I have many decks in my collection that I just can't bring myself to use, but as a collector, I keep them. One deck you mentioned, The Sacred Rose Tarot with those starlit eyes really bugged me when I bought it. Bear in mind that in those days there were not too many decks to choose from so when a deck arrived at the bookstore, I'd nab it. But very often we were only able to choose a deck based on the box cover art. Well, once I opened The Sacred Rose deck, I loathed it. However, now, after a great many years, I've been drawn to it. In fact, I used it a few days ago. I'm not sure when I bought it, but I'm guessing I've had it for at least twenty years. It took that long for it not to bug me anymore. Thank you for sharing. Ps, don't worry about reading the book. I didn't even know it had a book. Trust yourself.

Like the Sacred Rose tarot, was in two minds as well but it has a magnetic feel. The figures on the cards are supposed to be unearthly beings and that is why their eyes are different ! The book is useful but just for an occasional browse. Tarot of the Sidhe is deeply ethereal so it is a unique deck, may be good for journaling or inner work. Oracle of the Dreamtime looks great, lucky you. Keep in mind that we do go through stages with deck interest, has happened to me many times over the years. Blessings.

Hello Kelly and Katie, you lovely ladies! The Tarot of the Sidhe is one of my favourite decks - I partially trimmed it (borders were too wide for my liking) and edged in black - it's absolutely stunning now. As for the energy - I completely get why people might find it hard to connect with. I can't imagine ever using it for a light-hearted, daily type reading. For me it's a meditation deck, for soul/shadow work - really deep stuff, takes me to places that can be a bit daunting. I feel the Sidhe are guiding me through it in a wise, supportive way. 💜

Do you ever do multideck readings? Try doing a reading with a deck that you generally use and then pull a card or two from some of your question decks to just add something to the reading and see if that resonates at all.

For example, I just feel like those animal cards would be overwealming to do a full spread, but a one card reading isn't enough, so drawing an animal card to add to another reading could be interesting.

I saw the Sacred Rose Tarot on another 'decks I don't use' video, and was drawn to it because of its otherworldly feel. I really like it. I call it my traditional tarot version of my Osho Zen, because readings have a similar feeling. I recommend skipping the giant book and reading the LWB instead. This deck has the most useful LWB I've ever encountered.

Great video theme Katey. It's interesting which decks you don't reach for but somehow aren't ready to let go of and I enjoyed hearing your thought processes surrounding why. I used to be quite against the idea of collecting for the sake of collecting, but I too have come to accept that some decks are just a part of my collection and not working decks. If you are a collector of any sort, never feel bad for keeping them if you are not using them for their base purpose. Many collectors collect things that they know they will never even open because the value would go down. Every deck you collect has a story and a purpose regardless if you've used them once or not at all. I'll never understand the need to declutter tetot decks because ten years from now the decks will either be out of print (making it a true collectors item) or a deck you've never used could become one of your favorites. Brian Frouds fairy Oracle is my absolute favorite oracle deck. It is intimidating but if I can read it, anyone can lolol. Ive found it quite helpful to have a journal for the sole purpose of one particular deck in mind. Sometimes you have to just start reading with it with the aide of the guide book. There is no shame in using the guidebook. My favorite terot deck is the Terot of the Sidhe. Its so powerful and wild. I modified mine because I found it difficult to shuffle. I also edged it in the color of the elements because its an elemental heavy deck. Sometimes modifying a deck will bring you closer to a deck. Also its something to consider that there might be an element of shopping addiction at work. Right now this affects hundreds of thousands of people on youtube because its a rush to purchase whats new and trending and there is a pressure to buy buy buy or you'll miss out. But when the item finally comes in, that feeling passes and it gets shelved and you feel buyers remorse. And then you're onto the next rush with another deck and the process repeats. Unfortunately this is an epidemic on youtube that affects almost every community.

I have at least two decks in my collection (full disclosure: I *am* a collector, so I never get rid of any) that I thought I hated and regretted having spent the money on. A couple years later with the one, and about fifteen(!) years later with the other, I suddenly felt drawn to use them and fell in love. It astonished me, because I don't consider myself an inconsistent person! I now think I was just waiting for the right time in my life to connect with those decks. That might happen for you too, and on some level you might be feeling that, which might be why you just can't let certain decks go. …I keep saying "might" because only you can judge that for yourself; it's just a thought that might 😉 help. Btw, I can't speak to the Sidhe because I haven't quite connected to that one yet, though I want to. I feel the same as you for now. But I *did* have an almost-aversion to the Faeries' Oracle at first and left it in its box a few months. Then one day…out it came…and WOW! Suddenly those faeries came alive in my hands and it's now my absolute favourite oracle. My If-I-could-only-have-one-oracle Oracle. I find it a very friendly, funny, mischievous, silly, yet deeply wise deck. I'd suggest not being too serious about it - or the other decks, for that matter. Put the books away for a bit and just play with the cards, maybe?

Is there a proper way to dispose of a deck? I had the Githic Tarot deck which I bought and used initially for its stark no nonsense images and shockingly real feel to the messages. I started to feel dark and angry using them, so donated them to a charity bin. Is this disrespectful? Should I have given them to someone in person instead?

I did purge many decks at the end of July. I am considering selling the ones I don't use/resonate with/etc. My original intention for collecting decks is to collect to use rather than just to collect to collect. There were decks I thought I would love but don't. Such as the Wild Unknown (1st Edition), Sherlock Holmes Tarot, Steampunk Tarot Wisdom from the Gods of the Machine, to name a few. I also got rid of books recently (language ones mostly) that I don't use anymore or can't get anything out of it. Great video Katey! -Søren

Miles Carroll: The imagery didn't speak to me as I hoped it would. It was a really popular deck and I told myself that if I didn't at least try it out I would regret it. It didn't give me much to go off of in my readings and I never felt drawn to using it when I did have it. It's one of those you either love it or you don't. I wanted to love it and there were cards that were absolutely cool but if I can't read with it, it can't stay in my collection. Most cards being black and white make it hard for me to read with. I need colour in my tarot decks. Katey Flowers:I may just have to do so very soon! Yeah, I wanted to love it but I just didn't and I am definitely guilty for falling for the hype.

I find that there are very many beautifully illustrated Tarot decks with wonderful artwork, but either the artist failed to connect with the universal understanding of the Tarot symbolism (leaving a pretty deck with no soul" , or that particular deck just doesn't "speak" to me. I have quite a few decks with pretty artwork which I don't or can't use. There are some which I can't endorse as my philosophy. There are some that I can use (only because I understand the traditional meaning attached to then) but they don"t evoke deeper understanding & don't teach me anything.

The French deck you showed us first reminds me of Kipper somehow :D Sometthing about the Merry Day always makes me a bit sad. If I understand the story correctly, the creator of Merry Day passed away in financial hardship because of some unethical behaviours related to their distribution. I kept it for that reason weirdly. I probably will never use it. I struggle to connect with the human figures in The Hardy. It costed me as much as the deck to ship it over, and I can only use the minors so far. The Oracle of the Dreamtime is one that I have not used a lot but feel CERTAIN that it is to stay with me. I actually bought a second copy. I was that certain. Maybe I should do a read out from the book.... Hm.... In any case, I feel you. I have a few of these as I clear out my collection too :D My own explanation for myself is that perhaps I am sensing that the time for me to work with them is yet to come :) Thanks for sharing!

Nobody Here oh that is a sad story about the Merry Day! How awful! 😢 But I feel you on the Oracle of the Dreamtime... something special about that one, I think!

I have the Oracle of the Dreamtime. I was so excited to have it but, my second reaction was "Meh." There is a lot in the book, and I read it for the cultural insights. I will probably use it as an occasional "word of the day," but I won't use it as extensively as I thought I might.

I use the book but I like to work with the cards first and see what the cards themselves have to say to me.

The Tarot of the Sidhe. For some strange reason it makes me uncomfortable to even look at it. I don't know why. I am holding on to it. I have never used it. I am not going to visit it any time soon. But I am keeping it in that drawer where it is. A mystery? Or just learning to let go...

Interesting video, Katey. I finally traded the Hardy Tarot, just could not connect. I do use and love Colleen Hardy's Forces, Flora, and Fauna oracle deck, however. I pulled out Silver Witchcraft a couple of months ago to trade and the next thing I knew I had really connected with it and am now using it a lot......so you just never know. You have inspired me to do a Fall cleaning!!! (I know it's Spring in Australia!!!!)

I can't see reading with the French deck either but it could be pretty in frames or made into a wall hanging or something like that.

Good idea for a topic! I'm the same way with some decks I don't use but don't want to let go. BTW, I don't know if you got a new haircut or what, but your hair looks especially pretty!

Karen Schmidt I'm glad I'm not the only one! And thank you! I haven't had a haircut super recently, but I did curl my hair - Blair and I went to the Symphony a few hours after I filmed this, so I was a bit done up in this video! ☺️

it seemed to me a common element in your less-used decks could be that they invite you to immerse yourself in nature... ? how much is that a possibility for you, where you are?💐
@KateyFlowers

Hi Eline, I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what you mean. I spend quite a lot of time out in nature as I bush walk and bike ride regularly. I am in the city so, of course, I am somewhat limited, but I do the best I can with my location :)

Katey what about camping? i've really no idea whether that's your thing. it's just that a lot more communication with nature is possible if we want it. i live in the Netherlands myself😉we don't have any great outdoors at all here! i was wondering what it's like in Melbourne: city/outback contrasts? good you walk and bike! pure medicine always🙌

The outback is a long way away from Melbourne, but we do have lovely national parks and bush within reach. I’m never been much of a camper, but I do love getting out in amongst the trees for a day!

If oracle decks are for their artwork/graven images or as soothsaying, then demons may have a person keep them around; even without provoking a particular attraction or even repulsion to them. Fuzzy or other unusual features can be best to enhance the evocative nature of cards in use. Whether or not evil magick is a part of the use of an oracle, looking at the artist's specifics and the mythology they intended in their own words to see how one can and should work with it in one's own terms.
Decks that have to earn their spot in my collection in 2022! 🙈✂
