Matt Clayton Exactly. Do the Bernie supporters think there are 60 votes in the Senate for ANYTHING he’s proposing (even if the Dems had their dream 2020 and flipped like 5 senate seats for a 52-48 D advantage)? They couldn’t even get his agenda approved if they got rid of the legislative filibuster (which also wouldn’t have majority support so long as a moderate D coalition of senators like Sinema, Manchin, Tester, etc held, just as the Rs have Romney, Collins, Murkowski and plenty of others holding back that sort of short sighted radicalism right now). So essentially the Bernie supporter pitch to moderate Ds (along with Indies and Rs who dislike Trump) becomes “don’t worry about what he says, he can’t do any of it anyway”. Trump & Bernie supporters need to realize that any lasting reforms (the only reforms worth doing) aren’t things you manage to shove down people’s throat with a bare majority. We need politicians on both sides who build coalitions again, not just promise their most devout supporters the world and then let them try to bully the rest of the party in line with the binary choice argument.

@@YankeeBlues21 Trump has shown the president can do quite a lot without full support from the house and senate via executive orders and other means. Most of Bernie's supporters know he won't be able to give us Norway so easily but it's about actually doing everything possible to try to move in the right direction. The corporate centrist Democrats just say everything is impossible so we won't even bother trying, instead we'll do the most half-assed thing possible to please our base and then compromise some more with Republicans until it looks like something Republicans would propose in the 80s and before and that's it. It's also tough to tell if they legitimately believe that or if they're bought off to not really try and are lying. Also, centrist Dems often lose presidential elections, they have only been in power 16 of the last 40 years. With all of the problems the US has affecting most people in some way, the Democrats should be doing much better than that.
@michaelehlert94 жыл бұрын
Matt Clayton it’s not about waving a magic wand it’s about changing directions and moving towards something better for the country...away from the eventual train wreck we’re headed for. It took years to get the majority of Americans to realize the quality of life in the US is falling behind those of the rest of the civilized world. You have to start somewhere and The first thing is getting our leaders in office sans corporate sponsorship. That is a huge step in ending corruption. The next step is educating people on the costs of healthcare so they don’t have to resort to tired logic such as we don’t have enough money to cover everyone and that people like their insurance company. I also believe that many Republicans and independents who are afraid of Trump might just be a little more flexible when he is gone, just as everyone who’s ever worked with Trump speaks their minds when they are out. Much will depend on how the conservatives media poisons the minds to the point where they’d rather vote for a fraud over someone with a vision.

Just go read up on his flip flopping depending on which way the political wind is blowing, or what the South Bend, IN African American community thinks of him). Power. Ego. Legacy. First. We’ve had that in this country for decades. Just once, I’d like to see how someone who’d put the people of this country first, might do. I also happen to think Bernie would crush Trump.

There's sooo much to unpack here, but I don't have the time... I'll just say this. Whatever stories the media runs every day become the public's "normal..." Because it's what the public hears all the time. By constantly bombarding people with headlines about Trump's tweets, YOU MADE IT NORMAL. Not him, you. If you don't understand, I highly recommend reading Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking Fast and Slow." There's a passage in that book about the availability heuristic that fully explains this.
@ilovebreadtoo4 жыл бұрын
That's true. I don't have twitter or any social platforms except youtube, I come in contact with the tweets of Trump through CNN, MSNBC or other liberal media. Twitter only represent a few % of the the real world. I don't understand why those media makes such a big deal out of it.

You make valid points to be sure, but I would remind this media panel about the DNC's notorious "Pied Piper Strategy", made available to us thanks to Wikileaks. Van Jones is 100% wrong when referring to their own 2016 coverage, he said: "we said we don't want to normalize him. So anything he does that's outside the norm, we're going to react to aggressively." From the rarely acknowledged e-mail: "In this scenario, we don’t want to marginalize the more extreme candidates, but make them more 'Pied Piper' candidates who actually represent the mainstream of the Republican Party," As examples of these "pied piper" candidates, the memo named Donald Trump - as well as Sen. Ted Cruz and Ben Carson). "We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously,"

Spot on! Trump can be covered in the media, but reduce it from 100% to 10%. Unfortunately drama sells... Senate not producing is boring Daily death's by guns, to OK Imprisonment of the Afro-American population, no Outrage. In Sweden, what sells is Climate change. Important, absolutely! But to 100% in one of the least polluted countries? Media has changed, the focus on what sells today is not news, that's sensationalism. Facebook, Twitter are social media acting as News Outlets. In addition the focus on only providing the like-minded voices to everyone is extremely dangerous as no one get challenged. A lot of complaining, no solutions above. I can only say ownerships; if you are a CEO in Media, Social Media or a politician/ a government take ownership of what you pledge. STOP finding loopholes not to follow what you say or know to be the right thing.

It's just really awful they lie to the audience, pretending they are absolutely clueless about what he wants (more like Canada and Scandinavian countries, but they act like he's Lenin/Stalin 2.0), lie about his support (repeatedly suggest he actually has few supporters and most people don't like him), or are prophetic and know who can win and can't. No matter what happens negative in the general elections, they will blame Bernie and his supporters unless Democrats win the presidency, house, and senate, anything less than that, wherever Democrats lost, it's Bernie and his supporters fault.

noblejosher: I'm floored by his take on Socialism. Remember when he said we are a Socialist country? Of course we are and that fact that he now thinks of it as a negative is just not the Bill I used to know. I think his fear of Trump has turned him into a doddering old fool. The way I see it we have two forms of socialism in this country. One we can call corporate socialism which makes the wealthy the beneficiary of all government largess and the other we can call Democratic Socialism that seeks to make the needs of the people its priority. The first has had a stranglehold on power in this country for decades and has brought us to the mess we are in. The second just wants to even the playing field for the people. To bring our economy back into balance by promoting a partnership between the public and private sectors that requires everyone to pay their fair share and work for the common good so we can have a more equitable better functioning society for everyone. Tell me what's so radical and dangerous about that? We need each other. A mixed economy works better than a monopoly. It's a win for business and a win for the people. After all if there's a Starbucks on every corner, who's left to buy the coffee?

I also like how they're all on board the plutocracy train now with the other rich people on TV hyping up Bloomberg, Trump's IRL good friend (search google images for "Trump and Bloomberg" and see them repeatedly together). Suddenly racism, being old (78), being a billionaire (worth 50 times billionaire Trump), having heart stents (had 2 in 00s, also irregular heart rhythm), "former" Republican isn't bad at all because Bloomberg dissed Trump in a press conference! And they are worried about moderates supposedly not turning out for Bernie, you think anyone to the left of selfish "don't tax me, I'm only worth $100mil" moderates is going to want to vote for a fucking billionaire? The US media companies and rich people on them are manufacturing this guy's win since they are terrified of Bernie winning and taxing them. That said, Van Jones and Pramila were great. Well, so far, he was never confident a leftie would win, so he said "he supported them" because he knew they would never win. Now, Bernie has better odds to win, so he is afraid of losing his $$$.

Shway ………………….. No, you're wrong . That's communism - the dictatorship of the proletariat . Democratic Socialism is individual freedom, self determination, democracy in the workplace . Dr. Richard Wolfe explains this well . I do agree that there is nothing wrong with workers 'choosing' to control production, and share in profits and the mechanics of business decisions, as most worker co-ops do .

Adam Alkhafaji it’s sad that Elizabeth Warren turned out to be what she truly is. Karma got her back when she refused to support Bernie and supported Clinton because Clinton’s staff was supposedly promise her to be Clinton’s VP until they pulled out Timmy Kane.

Christopher Young I’m not sure about that. Remember it was the Clinton campaign, DNC, and CNN that screed Bernie over in 2016. The Clinton campaign even tricked Warren into supporting Clinton for a VP spot but then they played her with Tim Kane. It’s not Bernie or the Bernie Bros that are splitting the party but the wealthy Democrats in our own party who I remind have been sitting back enjoying their wealth while the people are suffering. Just my opinion

This was a special night for Bill because he got his first legit answer about what is going to happen if Trump doesn't leave office , Van said that the military will not allow him to remain. As far fetched as this may sound, we could very possibly see this play itself out. Great show, I needed it after this BS week.

They do the same to Sanders' supporters, attack Sanders and his supporters and keep repeating lies and when his supporters react to their attacks and lies, say they're being toxic, mean, hateful, etc. They're either unable to see the hypocrisy or it's deliberate, trying to manufacture Bernie into Stalin 2.0 and his supporters, as Chuck Todd on MSNBC said, as being Nazi brown shirts so he loses and they don't have to pay more in taxes.
