As a black voter, Harris and Booker didn’t appeal to me because of their races. They were just not great candidates. Dyson’s analysis was wrong, otherwise Biden (who is riding the Obama wave wouldn’t be in first place). Yang/Sanders know what they are talking about and are very passionate about making positive change. Booker and Harris spoke a lot but didn’t say anything.

A centrist Democrat can get campaign money from companies and wealthy donors. However, (in my opinion), if you are going to be more left/progressive, you either need to be self-funding or set up a grass roots fund-raising campaign. That's right in Yang's wheelhouse. Bernie set one up. So did Warren. However Booker and Harris DID NOT. That might have been O.K. decades ago, when campaigns were shorter. But now you need to steadily burn money for 2+ years in a Presidential campaign. Booker and Harris dropping out wasn't about race, it was about fielding a team that could set-up effective online funding.

Sounded like part of what he was saying was that Booker and Harris couldn't gain the robust minority support Obama did because Obama disappointed us to some degree and seeing that the minority candidates in place weren't much different from Obama, it was hard for them to get excited. Studies do show that if there is enough of an overlap in policy blacks DO support black candidates to a higher degree. Maybe blacks saw, with Obama, much of that overlap can be superficial.

Obama was put in an unique position as the first/only black president of the USA. A lot of voters were judging an entire race of people on there ability to lead on what Obama did or didn’t do. Bernie is wholly unpalatable to like 40% of the country. I like him a lot and voted for Bernie in 2016, but I don’t think he is the only alternative to Trump. In fact, I’m not confident he can even beat Trump (I hope so though!) Andrew Yang appears to have the highest overall favorability, when screened across Republicans, Democrats and Independents. When polling Republicans specifically, he consistently gets the highest number (typically 10-15% say they would vote for him over Trump) Yang would have more trouble winning the primary than the general, it seems. He has a lot of very similar values and goals to Sanders (which is why Yang is often Sander’s supporters second choice, and vice-versa for Yang supporters). My Dream is Sanders and Yang on a single ticket. Won’t ever happen though

Obama ran as a progressive "hope and change" candidate and all that jazz but then governed as a moderate republican from the eighties. Among his biggest hits are: 1- Left of the hook the criminals and liars that got us in the Iraq war. 2- Decided to not prosecute any of the bankers responsible for the 2008 crash and bailout the banks instead of the public during the crisis. 3- Expanded Bush era surveillance regime and drone program. 4- When it came time the time to pass healthcare, he decided to settle for watered down Romney care instead of the public option when he had a supermayority on both the Senate and the House to approve it. 5- Without prompting tried to negotiate a "Big Bargain" that would have implied severe cuts to social security (we luck out of that one because of the Tea Party crazyness). 6- Until his last day he was a free trade warrior, promoting unpopular agreements like TPP (wich probably had a role on Hillary's defeat in the Rust Belt). 7- Under his watch more than a 1000 seats were lost, including a bunch of governor seats, wich allowed the GOP to gerrymander the hell out of future elections. 8- He continued the government war on wistleblowers. 9- Continued the disastrous war on drugs and did not even decriminalize marihuana at federal level when he got the chance. I could go on, but this is the idea. Obama was much better than any republican creature but in general his two terms where underwhelming. During his second term he had the excuse of republican obstructionism but not when he had a supermayority., at that point he could had passed whatever he wished, but he never had in him, because the man was a moderate at heart. However notice that he always came true when the time came of doing nice things for corporations like the general motors or the bank bailout. In general terms Obama was a dissapointment.
