The Hornady 4dof app is excellent. First time I shot “long range”, 1261yds, it told me to hold 1.6 moa left for wind and spin drift, I didn’t believe it, missed about 2’ right of center. Next 3 shots, held solution from app and got an 8” group. It’s free and saves the time and ammo developing a dope card by hand and interpolating data.

I'm grateful for this series. We've plowed through 1) making the rifle and shooter as fatigue-proof as possible and 2) removing a notorious detrimental QC issue from the factory. My neck was strained in school and overseas, I poo-hooed the ergonomic block of instruction. I had my technology, but poor position. You are absolutely correct; the cheek-weld and pad should be like a tempur-pedic mattress and I should lay down, comfortably, no neck strain, almost annoyed that I have to take a shot and interrupt my nap.

That software is pretty impressive. I have one called ballistics on my Ipad I was using back in 2017. It's been that long since I've built up loads and it didn't have the weather stuff in it. I have a place where I can set up to 1000 yards now and have 100 empty cases to work up. Time to get a new chrono and get to testing again. Thanks for taking the time to make this series.

Do you find that your glasses mess with your ability to see through the scope? I’ve never had any actual performance issues from my glasses. But it’s certainly not as crispy looking through a scope as I would like. Like it’s not bad enough to mess up a shot but it’s enough to be annoying sometimes. Do you have any glasses boy tips?
@OvertonWindex5 ай бұрын
Nope. I don’t really need to wear them, I really only wear them when I’m filming. So I can see the camera settings and such. Have you adjusted your diopter?
@Racingboom5 ай бұрын
@@OvertonWindex I pointed the rifle into the sky with my parallax set to infinity, then adjusted diopter until I could get the crosshairs to be perfectly crispy without focusing using my eyeballs. I have 2 different glasses with the same scrip but one seems a little bit worse. If you’re referring to adjusting diop to my eyes with no glasses on (if that’s a thing) I can’t, I’m blind as fork. 😂 there’s no amount of adjustment saving my ass.
@Racingboom5 ай бұрын
@@OvertonWindex I will admit, I’m pretty new to shooting. And I’ve been blind for a shminute, so I may just need a new scrip. This is with a Primary Arms SLX 3-18 gen2 if that means anything. I also have a Sightron I’m having the same issues with. It’s a 6 or 8-32 I think.
@Highbrass-reloader5 ай бұрын
“Boomers” rifles can do that all day everyday, only dif is, overpriced, excessively promoted prc rifles are chambered for longer, higher ballistic coefficient target bullets. 90% people should NOT be taking shots at ranges past 4-500yds, simply for lack of energy transfer at distance. The % of unclaimed wounded game went up exponentially when these PRC rifles started getting popular.
@Jeremy-qy9po5 ай бұрын
Now this rifle is known for shooting very inconsistant in those backfire videos, could that have just been because of the barrel touching the stock???

Good job! From a boomer.
@msquared96055 ай бұрын
Nice nice, now let’s see you attempt the same shot without all the gizmos and gadgets that the boomers never had. Not impossible I know, but will take many more shots to make impact. Because we both know without all the help up front, cartridge choice doesn’t matter

@doctorgears93585 ай бұрын
It's not WW2 anymore, friend. We don't need to calculate ballistic tables by hand any more. You can use a calculator. Your elementary school math teacher can't hurt you.
@msquared96055 ай бұрын
@@doctorgears9358 I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but nothing you said has anything to do with I said. My point is, with kestrels and ballistic calculators, just about any cartridge can make that shot. At that point it has nothing to do with 6.5 vs 30-06. Sure, at that distance, the 30 might need a couple more moa in dialing, but acting like it’s impossible is just plain smooth brained. Hornady been making a big marketing push lately between this guy and impact shooting lol
@nilknoc1015 ай бұрын
Without all the “gizmos and gadgets”, there would just be a ballistics table and time behind the gun to learn what the calculator spits out instantly. It’s a completely different approach to long range these days. Modern problems, modern solutions.
@mattquadbiker39995 ай бұрын
Hey homie, if you sub in density altitude instead of actual (above sea level) altitude you might goober the calculations because the app is asking for pressure and temperature - both of which you need to calculate density altitude - unless it doesn't calculate it because it makes a negligible difference and i am talking straight out of my ass.
@OvertonWindex5 ай бұрын
No, I just knew how close that density altitude was to the actual altitude. Like 100 feet or something. So I just stuck it in there instead of reviewing Google Earth on camera.
