“I’m a pukka Indian. Mumbai is my home,” says Zubin Mehta about his birthplace. The Musical Director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra traveled to India with “his” inspiring 110-member orchestra and on April 17th and 18th, 2016 they celebrated Maestro Mehta’s 80th birthday with two fantastic concerts at the National Center of Performing Arts in Mumbai.

I just saw Zubin Mehta conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic several weeks ago the Schumann Piano Concerto and Mahler’s Symphony No 1 incuding the Blumine movement. He recently turned 87. Zubin Mehta is slower walking and conducts sitting, but otherwise appears vigorous. May he have many more good years.

Maestro Mehta has a quality of well intended sound that intuitively flows out from within the whole orchestra. He has never disappointed a night of glorious music as his nature among all his orchestra members is the quality of heavenly creation among the harmony balanced such as the master painters, painting themselves out of their own canvas hues. Bravo, Maestro and orchestra. Such a rich dessert of the senses.

@@annapowal9100 He is not most certainly not he is not. He is a Zarathusti or Zoroastrian as it is more commonly known in the West. By origin he is from Bombay India and ethnically he is an Indian Parsi. (Though to be clear all Indian Parsis can trace their origin to groups of Zoroastrian refugees from old Iran from the late 8th century till 11th century)
