As to why the old man and little girl acted like that, when Kiriko uses her ultimate ability (the blue gates power), she gives her allies a buff in the match. They move faster, and I think get a damage boost. You can see slight blue glow in their eyes, indicating she's empowered them with the power of the Fox Spirit. She's also a healer, which is why she put that golden charm on the old man's chest. She was healing the bullet wound. She was still super pissed though, so she went off on the badguys to remind them they aren't the only power out there. Her background is that her grandmother was an ally to an ancient Fox Spirit, that provided healing magic to those who worked with it. Her grandmother taught her that the Fox Spirit's purpose was to protect the city of Kanezeka (the place they are in), through kindness and healing. And that it had been their family tradition, for generations, to protect the city of Kanezeka, with the help of the Fox Spirit. Her mom, was a martial artist (and also thought all the spiritual Fox stuff was just superstition), and taught her to defend herself, and those she cared about through combat. So Kiriko basically got the idea that she's a protector from both sides of her upbringing, one through healing the other through violence. So she basically became a ninja with magical healing powers, and with a VERY developed sense of community and protection. Which is why she puts so much emphasis on the "Kanezeka is under MY protection." She's decided to take a more direct role in protecting her city, now that it's become overrun with crime. She's going to go after the Hashimoto directly, and try and kick them out of her city.

In Japanese folklore when a woman was possesed by a fox spirit (kitsunetsuki), they would constantly crave sweets. Which is why Kiriko eats a lot of doughnuts.

In game Kiriko is a healer, that's why she saved the old man from the bullet wound. Also her ultimate ability is to summon the fox spirit Kitsume (a shame we didn't see that here) and form those Torii gates in a straight line witch make your allies a lot stronger if they stay under them, that's why the old man and the child where suddently able to fight.

@Softs Kitsune literally means fox in Japanese. I think us westerners tend to associate the Japanese word for fox (which, again, is kitsune) with mysticism, and thus we tend to use it as a proper name and/or title rather than as a regular name for the animal.

Part of the blue light up ability is it allows her allies increased movement speed, and firing/swing rate. This is why a brave little fox with an axe is so terrifying.

A little backstory, Kirikos mom is a martial artists, who also help trained two other characters, Genji and Hanzo of the Shimada clan (this is why she had a sword lol). Kiriko also trained with them, and was especially attached to Genji for being the rebels of the group. He would take her to the local arcade to play games, where she gets a bit of the hip hop vibe from. Also note the gangster with the crazy hair, was a guard for the Shimada and is seen getting knocked out in the dragon trailers, My assumption is this is after he got fired and is now a gangster.

The guy with the hair was already a gangster. The Hashimoto took Shimada castle once that clan died out. He is still in their employ, he just sucks at it and likely blows his money on hair products.

Just a heads up. There will be actual story content coming in about a year. With playable missions, cutscenes, story etc. It will be co-op player vs environment gameplay. I would recommend if you truly want to play the game and experience the story to wait until that releases, the current schedule is for November 2023.

They do so well with the cinematic shorts. I would say this is one of the best. then I start to think about how much I loved the others too. The ashe, mcree, echo one was great. the OW2 announcement was great, mei was sad to watch. they are so good. Her Mom is actually the ones that did a lot of training for Hanzo and Genji. Kiriko was trained in combat by her mom and she was taught the sacred arts from her grandmother. I encourage playing it. New players are forced to win 50 unranked games and they have to unlock characters as they play. You don't get access to all the characters without the battle pass unless you unlock them.

In all fairness, everyone has always said that Blizzard needs to make a properly animated movie. nr.1 on the list for most is the story of Arthas, nr.2 is probably just the Warcraft story in general. Everyone got excited when they released Warcraft the movie, because well everyone had been waiting for it for ages, but what we got was this half animated, half real graphic of a movie, which looked terrible, they also decided to start at a point in the story which most people don't care for. We had no characters that was extremly familiar, Medivh and Gul'dan probably being the most familiar of them all, so Blizzard really missed the mark there. What they need too do is make a fully animated (Same graphics as their cinematics for WoW) movie, about our main man Arthas. Then make a series for Overwatch, Starcraft and Diablo. They could probably even do a Heroes of the storm movie/tv series, although i think that wouldn't go down all that well, seeing as most people would just find it wierd and what not mixing all the universes together like that in a series. Blizzard has continued to make mistakes after mistakes each and every year, too a point where i think most people have lost their faith in them, but their cinematic team... my god they just keep delivering time after time, even for the cinematics where people didn't like the story, they keep coming back for them seeing as they are soo well made. "Reckoning" probably being the nr.1 cinematic they've made, despite people not liking the story arc of Sylvanas, everyone thorougly enjoyed that one, and we got an awesome ending for Varoc.

Blizzard does not have a bad cinematic. Every single piece of animated content is immaculate. Overwatch 2 has a PVE story mode coming soon. I f you love the characters that'd be a fantastic to get to know each deeply.

So the lore with Kiriko is she has power with spirits (in japan more so related to Yokai). In her family it seems only her grandma has the power and was able to see the fox spirit and taught it to kiriko.

Watching the OW animated shorts brings out a lot of hidden context that exists within the game, though the gameplay itself doesn’t reflect this (i.e. you can have characters from violently opposing factions team up together). But no question that all of the OW cinematics are worth checking out (and perhaps reacting to), as they are very high quality even from the start… 👍

Blizzard announced an Animated Overwatch series for Netflix 3 or 4 years ago at E3. Unfortunately, it has NEVER been mentioned again by Blizzard or Netflix or anyone really. It appears to have been shelved before even getting started.

you guys should def look back at all the overwatch trailers they are soooooo good and despite how blizz is as a company or the games that they have been making recently its awesome to see that their cinamatic team still has it going on. for a long time I would have said they were the best in the biz but Riot has really stepped it up for a good number of yrs now not only in quality but quantity aswell claiming that throne for me. like you mentioned I dont think Blizz (or atleast their bosses) value their IP like they should and should really take a step back and maybe look at how Riot works. as a company Blizz has such deep lore, chracters, and ideas that are loved by the fans so giving them a high quality series like Arcane for any of their properties like Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, or Starcraft would build huge amounts of hype and satisfy many fans.

I love how the entire first minute is basically false information :) and no research was done…so here is some info: Blizzard came out with books,comics and Manga since the 90’s. Some of the WOW novels were best sellers during Blizzards peak in the early 2000’s (I for example read “lord of clans” not even knowing what WoW was). In 2016 Blizzard released their first movie “Warcraft” it was a blockbuster budget live action production, but flopped similar to “Avatar the last airbender”. It got pretty mediocre to bad reviews and only was a success in China. Cause it turns out, that it is really hard to deliver a massive amount of lore to a dedicated fanbase in just 2 hours. Arcane was a success, because a)we now have the technology to put out stunning animations for less budget b) animation in general is not stereotyped as “childish” anymore and speaks to an adult audience as well and c) because Arcane chose to focus on only one region and a small part of the lore. “Warcraft” almost was a financial disaster if it would not have been for the Chinese audience. So Blizzard thinks, that with Overwatch they cannot take that risk again, cause the lore is based around the characters, which a lot of them are queer and in tracers and soldiers case, it is a pretty big part of their backstory (tracers motivation in the overwatch comics for example often is simply getting home to her girlfriend and it seems that Soldiers boyfriend went mia the same time overwatch was basically blown up, so he might be on his vigilante mission not just for overwatch, but also to avenge his lost love). Since anything queer is censored in China, Blizzard would not be able to release an Overwatch movie there and therefore cannot count on the financial support from China again AND they also cannot count on financial support in the west at the moment as well, due to all the shocking scandals and their ruined reputation. No network at the moment would be willing to support a company with that image. Which is kinda sad, cause the people who do the Overwatch story boards are not the same people in the top management who bought a “party” apartment dubbing it the “Bill Cosby suite”… So yeah.

can tell y'all aren't gamers. Blizzard need to refocus on their games. Take the one you're watching now. The launch went terribly they didn't invest in enough server space and are loosing their biggest partner and one of their biggest IP's the features got less between games and its riddled with balance issues and bugs all over again even though we had a perfectly fine working game a few weeks ago. They might loose activision to Microsoft. They destroyed Starcraft, WOW, and Heroes of the Storm and now Diablo w/ immortal and soon to be the full of micro transactions 4. So yeah everywhere blizzard goes they seem to screw it all up. they def don't need to be making any more movies considering 6 years in and we still don't have our promised campaign that we bought back in 2016...
