its because you literally are stuck in line. Instead of having a top 500 system the same way, ranking works the same way right now. There is only so many spots available. If someone else deranks out of that rank, then you will have the availability to move up, but if no one leaves, or if multiple people should rank up, whoever is first will get in.....

I don't think it's disguising the old system. I think they move you faster then before and sometimes you can go on a run and not move at all. Maybe because they're being more aggressive at getting people to their mmr

Exactly I went gold 5 to gold 1 in my first go with atleast 3 or 4 losses .. I was high diamond in ow1 and even in the beta when I checked I was diamond so I think it starts super low and will aggressively shoot you up cause my least gain so far was plat 3 to plat 1 the rest have been jumps of 4 or more

If your went down two divisions from pre-Overwatch 2 rank, it's because they did a "soft reset" of MMR, which for most players effectively means they pushed you down two ranks (i.e. plat to silver). Once the ranks settle you should find it fairly easy to climb at first until you start getting close to your old rank. At least that's what should happen in theory. I think psychologically it helps not seeing the SR, it was especially a devastating feeling when you lost SR in high ranks before the +-25 change that just made people quit when losing their streak Now I just queue right up after a loss and don’t even think about it

Went from fighting Plats on PC and Masters on Switch in OW1 to fighting Bronzes in OW2 despite winning most my matches and consistently being top of the leaderboard. OW1 literally had the most garbage ranked system I've ever played and they somehow made it even worse, congrats Blizzard. Think I'll go back to Halo Infinite where you're actually rewarded for skill and can hit the top rank in like fifty matches just by being better than everyone around you.

@@stillnotchill2560 Lmao either your friend's completely full of shit or you are, why lie just to simp or Overwatch? 343 releases the ranked data, in Season 1 Onyx was roughly the top 4% of players and in Season 2 it's roughly the top 1% of players. You don't "accidentally" get to Onyx, because even if you win a match, you won't gain any points if you didn't perform well. You hardly lose points either even when losing if you play really well. At D6 a single bad loss can set you back half a rank whereas it would take like 20 okay wins to get that much back. You absolutely have to perform well to climb, it's skill based, as all ranked systems should be. And Overwatch 2 could learn a thing or two from the system.

If you're not allowing players to at least get some progress on their rank, pretty soon they'll realize they're walking in circles and stop playing. Cause the "little improvements" you mentioned won't increase your rank one bit. You have to carry your whole team, and if you do that you should be a rank higher

Your theory about winning 7 but after losing probably 15 and de-ranking is 100% true, just happened to me. Went from Gold 2 to Gold 3 I AM GONNA THROW UP. All this while I'm getting 12-15k heals in all my games very minimal deaths and 15-20 eliminations. There's just no way of getting up when you're contantly put in with terrible teams. Sigh. Time to never play ranked again in my life lol.

They did a soft MMR reset which for most players effectively means they pushed everyone down 2 ranks. most GM players went to diamond as an example, some people it did weird stuff though, but the majority got pushed down. In the long run it will be fun because after a few weeks most players will climb in their games for a while, so that could be fun. Some players will hate having to climb again though.

See I dont understand it too well. Im a tank main and for my placements I went 7-3 and got placed in silver 4. My friend went 7-10 and got placed Bronze 5. We played together after those games and ended up going 7-1. I instantly ranked up from silver 4 to gold 5 and he went from bronze 5 to bronze 4 LOL

Just like in overwatch 1, the mmr is adjusted based on your personal performance to others playing that same character in the same rank. So what is going on, is even though your friend is winning, he is probably performing worse, or about the same as other bronze players on his character, whereas you are doing a lot better and getting scorelines the game expects a gold player to get.

I don't know. There have been times where I have lost 1 or 2 games in the seven match's and still get placed in bronze 5. I looked at my win-lose record and it is about even. I have yet to see a Rank up from bronze 5 even when I win most of the match's. It had me question whether or not the ranked system was broken.

I got placed bronze 5 for tank. I had 7 wins in a row. After I placed my it's like my teams consisted of 5 year-olds with no arms. I lost around 10 games in a row before getting another win. Each game with more elims and damage than both dps on my team sometimes combined and often if I played hog I'd end up with way more healing than my teams supports. Overall I've lost virtually all motivation for playing the game already. Some of the loses can be largely attributed to having a team member leaving after the first round.

Played with my friend recently. We both qualified on DPS, and he needed only 1 game won to get a new rank from gold 1. He had twice as much damage as I did, won and lost approximately the same amount of games that I did, and he got….. Demoted to silver 1. I qualified next - same situation, same rank (gold 1) and the same amount of wins and losses. The only thing that differed was damage: he had much more damage than I did. I got promoted to plat 4. At this point, I am pretty much confident that OW2 ranking is completely random.

Have been having issues with roles being locked when playing with friends. I understand the 2 ranks difference as you mentioned(silver can play with plat, for example)But this was happening with players who hadn't even done gotten their placements. 2 questions. So, if you hypothetically get paired with the losing team a couple of times you're shit out of luck, you're going down even if you did good by yourself, or if you did won 7 matches, but because of bad Rng now you're still going down instead of up..... What the fuck is the point of even playing this game? You can't play ranked, you can't unlock skins with loot boxes, the battle pass is paid only.... It's a good thing that the game is "free", because it sure as hell ain't worth shit.

I’m a healer main and for some reason I’m stuck on silver I keep going back-and-forth of the final ranked to rank 2. My average healing per game is 15k to 25k and I win a majority of my games but when I play open competitive, I have no trouble getting gold as a healer? It doesn’t make sense to me
