The rankings system is genuinely broken at every level right now. I wanted to recently try out competitive w/ my friend I started duoing with. We both do our competitive placement and I get Silver 2 and he gets Gold 4. I rejoin his party and we can't play competitive because "our skill divisions are too far apart". Even though the game says Platinum can play all the way down to Silver, Silver is too low to play with Gold. 🗿🤙

If 1-2 people carrying the game for their dramatically lower ranked temmates was truly unacceptable, then the matchmaking ahould reflect that. They can't defend "matchmaking integrity" when there was none to begin with

With match ups like that, how can the system even decide that you deserve to drop if you lose the match? If for any reason you end up going against people much higher than you, how in the hell is it even considerable that the game should think you deserve to sit at a lower point than you currently do? Like how did they even think they could let this happen and why did they think it was a good idea? Even on paper that sounds horrendous.

I had a Silver 4 in my Plat lobby. I’d ignore it since I’m trying to focus on my own performance, but this was the kind of player that tell’s you how to play the game while not actually knowing how to play the game, then complain about everyone’s performance but their own. I called him out on his rank and his shitty mentality, he proceeded to scream, tilt, and call me the n word for the rest of the match, so I definitely got under skin :)

Imagine you play Tank and they see that you love playing someone like Zarya. Now they can always pick a favourable matchup for the first fight. Making your profile visible does not give you any advantage over hiding it unless you count on your profile intimidating players or so...good luck with that

If Blizzard let gm players 5 stack it would actually help everyone else because they would play in their own little playground against other gm players. Obviously it would mean longer queues but hey, gm and plat don't want to meet each other in the same match a bit more

Back in the day Masters and GM's had super long queue times because the pool was so small. Now that it's F2P, the pool has likely expanded a lot. But I've noticed a drop in quality in a lot of Flats, Emongg's, and even Kephrii's matches. I've seen people at a Masters/GM level making Silver mistakes, it's so weird, but then again, they might actually have *been* Silvers given anyone can play against any rank. This version of the matchmaking system feels like someone took Open Queue literally.

Here’s an easy way to put things in contrast: If anyone remembers Pokemon Unite due to the whole p2w uproar, here’s something to compare it to. Pokemon Unite has a significantly better matchmaking system than OW2. While it’s not perfect, it’ll almost always pair you with someone above or below you in rank, and will be consistent across the team (like 3 veteran tiers alongside 2 ultra tiers). Unite, also worrying about stacking, made an easy solution. They split the queues. It was easy for them. One queue is for 1-3 stacks, while the other is for 5 stacks. There’s no queue for 4 stacks, cuz like Flats says, it’s easy to bully people. If a down-on-their-luck, smaller community game can fix their matchmaking, then why the hell can’t Blizzard? When it’s not even that hard to implement? No clue, but Blizzard clearly isn’t giving themselves bonus points.

Not even just this; But the absolute elo hell it creates You'll be a plat player in a game full of plat players and then your entire team is silver. Like, now you aren't getting the help and support you need to succeed and everyone just gets rolled. It's actually so frustrating to watch your rank drop and then spend 80 million years trying to get it back - especially with the new system of keeping your old rank.. (I have a love-hate relationship with that new system)

I literally went on a rant about this to a friend the other day. How every game I’m getting into, as like a Diamond player, I’m somehow getting bronze players. Ans I can’t stack with more then like one other friend and so my friend and I end up carrying the game and we still somehow lose. I could be playing support, DPS, or tank, carry in any role, and idk why but somehow we get like bronze DPS or silver tanks. It’s frustrating how the state of comp is.

Yeah something's up for sure. Every single day for the past 2 weeks, I will win about 2 games per ten played. Getting rolled every single match. I take what I did wrong in the previous games and fix it, but I keep getting matched against people who are way better than me. Honestly making me question whether or not I want to play Overwatch anymore for the time being. It sucks because I just started getting into comp a few months ago, climbed to plat 1 tank, and now I've been hard stuck in plat since last season.

Stacking should be allowed but significantly reduce how much elo you gain/lose per win/loss for both teams if their stacks are not equal. Range gap of ranks should be in line with who you're allowed to queue with, or if that's impossible significantly reduce elo change when it is not.

A tournament is far more organized and rigid. Like a golf or tennis or hockey tournament. What we are suggesting is that they be given their own role queue so they can more easily match up against one another without the lower ranks being drawn into it. If you aren't GM, you can't queue into the GM+ queue. Simple as that. Then they could stack all they wanted as they are all more similarly ranked.

I am a newish OW2 player and I just recently started trying comp and got put into silver 5. The last game I was in to rank up to silver 4 was a mostly diamond game. I did okayish, but I definitely felt like a clown. We won but it was all thanks to my team. I have anxiety about being put in games where I don't belong but I try my best, I just wish this wasn't the case to begin with.

The issue is, I play soloqueue, and I don't want to play in the game that has 4 x GM1 'best buddies' vs 4 x GM1 Contenders tryhard pros. The result is far more pre-defined for me than the regular RNG of soloqueue and the even the worst case scenario soloqueue matchmaking has nothing on the one-sidedness of mismatch stacks. They need a 5's ladder where only groups of 5 stacks play vs groups of 5. Keep it separate from the regular ladder with SR is independent so people aren't just getting boosted by several 'pro' friends, and don't ruin soloqueue with stacking. With those conditions, yes, allow stacking, it would be great to see teams go against teams and it would be great for players looking for that environment to be able to play it without having to organise scrims.

I remember the reason they got rid of stacking at gym was because of a team in some other country that would stack at late night hours and because the system was different they would get games with plats and diamonds that weren’t stacked. This led to that team being high ranked when in reality they were high diamond or masters. Now, with the changes Flats has said on the subject this wouldn’t be a problem anymore and would probably make the game more watchable because the golden age of twitch OW was Timthetatman, Lassiz, seagull, MoonMoon and wraxu all playing together

The amount of times I've been in games where me and my friends were matched up against people who were higher than us by multiple ranks is insane. For reference at our highest ranks i was diamond 3 one of my friends was diamond 5 and the other friend was like gold 3 and we got matched up against grand masters and high masters, yet we had people on our team who were close to our rank or even lower. We've had people on our team who were unranked at times

Yesterday I was Gold 2 on support, then during a rerank it showed me going up from silver 3- silver 1. I was never silver 3, so it showed me ranking up when it was actually down. Never have I seen a ranked system like this, I'll just delete the game and go back to fighting games at this point

The original matchmaking system for Comp in the beta /before beta was that the team HAD to be a six stack, and honestly regardless of rank I think that’s what it should be, because the biggest issue in bronze-plat is that NO ONE talks on the teams

My friends and I queue around Plat/Diamond and we matched with two DPS on the enemy team that were Masters 3 and GM 5. Their widow didn't die and the game was a complete wash. Proceeded to lose several times because matchmaking put us in the same game against us 3 times, and I dropped from Plat 1 to Plat 3. Nice.

My best friend and I were once on an AMAZING win streak. We que another comp game and we get a team full of Bronze who have NO IDEA what they’re doing. And I mean running in a straight line at a widow, Genji running right at a bastion not deflecting and a Ana who NEVER used her grenades and didn’t sleep. Like at all while running into walls. We lost because the other team made quick work of rolling my team. Another time I was thrown in with bronzes where the Dos had a grand total of 5 elims when added together and 3,400 damage between them. 🙃

The biggest mind fuck to me is the matchmaker will put you in lobbies based off your MMR rather than your rank. So you can be a plat playing in masters/grandmasters, making the rank purely cosmetic and superficial

Biggest mistake i do when playing competitive, is playing alone, because I’m constantly playing with people that have 0 clue about my play style and i end up going on losing streaks. When i play tank i’m an aggressive doom player and my friends know that. And they follow me up every time. But with randoms they sit back and watch and blame me for playing aggressively. Honestly idk what they did to the ranked matchmaking in OW2, but it sucks. I was in masters/gm lobbies while I was in diamond but when I finally got to gm, I was getting diamond 4s on my team. It almost feels intentional considering they made it impossible to see someone’s rank if they have a private profile, but I try to stay away from the conspiracy theories. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they switched to the engagement optimized matchmaking considering all of the other money hungry decisions they’ve made.

I didn't care about the damage but when I noticed how confused my team was when it came to pushing and trickling every single time they died, I noticed I am not losing it. Im starting to notice, quick play or comp, you’re bound to lose. It doesn’t matter how good you are you just have to lose. Ill go on 3 game losing streaks with the worst team ever (everyone running around dying, doing nothing). Then my next game Ill be playing with people in my rank (master). I won’t be the only getting picks and when I have a good team we win in the first 4 minutes. Its just some bs you can’t avoid.

Destiny 2 currently has a system called fireteam matchmaking. A stacked team will go against a stacked team almost guaranteed unless your in matchmaking longer than two and a half minutes, in which case it will try to match you with at least a group. For example comp in D2 is 3v3, stacked is 3 team mates, if it can’t find a stack it might find a duo and a solo but it will prioritize a stack over everything else. Now sometimes ping for these matches is bad, but most of the time these matches are pretty good and your running against other stacked teams so you k ow what to expect, the only downside is that if theres low traffic at that time of day sometimes you’ll get stuck with rematches two to three times in a row, even then though the game mode changes and the strategies for different game modes are vastly different. For example Rift is an escort mission basically, survival is getting kills until the other team runs out of lives and showdown is first team to ten kills revives cancel kills as counting towards that score, all in all this system works for Destiny 2 not sure if implementing something similar would help in overwatch 2 but it’s an idea at least that could help y’all out.

my last match was on the end of a 4 game win streak at masters4. I was put in a plat 1 lobby, won it, and got master3

Playing solo q it feels like I get bronzes on my team (I literally out perform everyone) yet the other team feel like masters players at least yet I'm the one that gets flamed for being front line, peeling and contesting literally everybody

Ive had a game that had top 500, gm, masters and diamond and plats it was crazy how spread the ranks were. ranked is honestly ass as I was low masters but theres plats in the game and top 500 on the other end

I don't understand why I can get through to Plat 2 open queue, only losing like 7 games, but working the same hero in role queue I am unable to get enough wins to move anywhere in silver. Its hell watching the same 4 mistakes 10000x in silver as I fruitlessly screaming obscenities into my muted mic. I've learned my lessons, LET ME OUTTA HERE!!!

The point of multi-player games is to play with friends and/or against other people. We can't even make a competitive team cause friends can't stack after a certain point. Also the point system needs to be reworked. Did my placements for not my strongest role got silver 4 but carried my friend during that time from silver 4 to Plat 1

Rank is broken was almost masters and somehow had silver players and a teammate was a bronze dps while I was diamond 1 across the board

Was silver, gave up on ranked again as i should be mid gold maybe but i kept getting put agaisnt PLAT players AS A SILVER, im a tank main and my god i get bullied so much for "being a bad tank" im doing my best, getting more dmg, dmg blocked and elims than the dps and enemy tank, still somehow lose and get called trash, i do more than the dps and still new to PC OW as i was originally a Xbox and PS player and do significantly better on pc, aim needs work but i still do well The rank system is absolute trash

I still remember at couple seasons back going on a 30 win run to get gm 5 (also it was really easy and it was unbeaten) but since the start of this season I've gotten 4-15 runs and there was nothing to do about,I'm sure diam is not my rank and I don't care that much, but having 4-15 runs it's just as stupid as having 10-20 consecutive wins

I've had several Plats and Gold players in my D1 and Master 3's games. This tier 9 crap needs to go away!!!! I'd rather have a 5 minute queue to have a higher quality game. When you pair up a Master Support next to a Gold or Plat tank. The game is usually a loss. I hate this system with a passion. Main reason why I don’t enjoy comp in ow2. I don’t appreciate being matched against a gm tank as a diamond 2 rein main, Especially if it’s against a rein gm… it’s doable of course but sucks ass for me and my team. Hell part of the reason why I hide my profile is just to reduce the chance of destroying my team’s morale before the game even starts.

It's weird to queue into GM/Masters only to have a plat or gold teammate. Coming from other games this doesn't really happen nor is it fair. I have no faith in Blizzard but I do hope it gets fixed sometime soon.

My friend and I were playing competitive for the first time (both of us unranked) and after he played two games as support and I played two games as tank, we were not allowed to both que up as support, despite being completely unranked…

Flats is right there is no competitive integrity, and honestly even if you get top500 it’s not like there’s money on the line or anyone’s safety, getting T500/Pred/Chally/etc. means nothing in real life

Sometimes you’ll get that message if you guys are doing role queue and not open queue. Role queue gave me the same message with my friend due to not finishing my games as tank. Clicked support and dps and it was fine pushing the match through. Finished tank and can do all 3 with him. Could also do open queue with him as a silver tank and my high was diamond 4 currently at diamond 5.

i mean in games like valorant if you 5 stack the queues can go anything from 1-20 minutes, since it looks for other 5 stacks

Val has the same problem, couldn’t q with plat friends when I was silver because of rank disparity being too high but would get matched against the odd plat player. Great job riot
